Sky Sports was the only channel to use the music used in the promo as their actual ident. Sky Movies (promo) = Sky Movies Gold (actual) The Movie Channel (promo) = Sky News (actual) Sky News (promo) = Sky Movies (actual) Ending = The Movie Channel (actual)
To this day, no media company made a better ident, than this one. They have managed to change the same tune just enough to give every channel its own identity, in line with their programming and style. Not to mention the graphics were very classy and conveyed a sense of quality.
This theme is some of Frank Gari's best work. Note how they swap some of the tunes between channels, and Sky One has an unused cut for some reason. Also, is that a castle burning at 1:39?
How it all seemed so new and different back then, and now 30 years later, the same bloody programmes are on day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, decade after decade. And there was me thinking it was only *(UK G)OLD that was a con!
