I'm so glad you went to Kerkannah. I wanted to go there during my travels in Tunisia but unfortunately didn't make it. I'm planning to revisit Tunisia this summer and I'm 100% going. I didn't realise how easy it is to get there. Thanks 🙏

I don't think the man was trying to look forceful. We just don't get much tourists around, so when we do, we want to be generous and make them feel "like home". But unfortunately some of us might insist too hard, it's in our nature ^^ and I understand why it looks off to tourists.

That makes a lot of sense and it is so nice that everyone wants to be so hospitable. He probably didn't have any bad intentions but we just felt uncomfortable 😊

„Budget backpacker“ tourists will avoid the spring and summer where the prices will be higher. Besides, Those places aren’t great during winter, western regions of the country have more to offer like Tozeur or Tabarka.

All over Tunisia, you will find nice people inviting you to visit their homes, have dinner with them, and spend a night or two with them at home... All of this is normal in Tunisia... Perhaps most Muslim Arabs think like this... and this is very normal in Tunisia.

I am not from Sfax but i assume that old guy didn't try to force you or he had some bad background, Sfax is not a touristic city so as a part of hospitality they are glad to see someone foreigner arriving there. Second point you really didn't see nothing from Kerkennah you just walked around the port the island have much more to show.

    About the drama there:
It was because some tunisians use that island yo illegally immigrate to italy .
So the police there is a bit strict about who is going there and always asking for the reson.

  • @klof4276
    @klof4276 Рік тому +2

PLEASE do not consider that police ineraction to be common in check-points in Tunisia. The ferry check-up in Kerkennah is RENOWNED in Tunisia for being "hot" because a lot of young men (and women and children) from everywhere in the country going there to find a "burner" boat trip and illegally immigrate to Europe... There's quite a few press articles about the issue.
You should check out Djerba, and maybe Zarzis if you want the small town experience. Zarzis has a small medina (with a very ancient Muslim and Jewish community) and there's THE BEST wood-fired pizza in the South there that's called "Lampadosa".

It has very nice beaches and traditional potery in Gallala, and the "houmet el souk" medina, the ferry is a shorter ride (like 20 minutes) and more regular and there is also a bridge linking it to the mainland that dates back from the Roman empire. Also you should definitely visit the eljem Roman amphitheater , if I'm not mistaken it is the second biggest int the world after the colossuem, it is very impressive

Wait! You made it to the island with the intention to turn right back same day???? Hummm!
Major Mistake number one: You chose Sfax over Mehdia ( Major mistake Especially considering how close you were)
Major Mistake number 2 is you arrive in the island ( arguably the best part of Sfax region) and turn back within like an hour? it is not like you guys..Kerkenah is so beautiful and you went to the port? then managed to judge it based on the port staton area?! That is not like you guys to do that, thats why I am puzzled.
You guys are so well traveled and so polite and cultured, you are nothing like some Americans this makes me think ok who are not not at all well traveled or cultured, who mostly take cruises instead of actually travel. The cruise ship stops in many countries/island countries for like a couple of hours. People only see the port and do one tiny cheesy activity, 2 hours later they are on to another country...then they go back home and say I visited these countries and start giving you their impression on the country and its people and culture, and I'm like how the f??
So your 5 mins in Kerkenah made me think of that ( It was in no way a comparaison with Americans, you guys are amazing and nothing like)
I think you should simply turn back and do another video with both Kerkenah and Mahdia on. If you do this and regret I will personally pay for the money and time spent on those 2 days! ( so keep your receipts!)
On the other hand, what you guys said at the end about gut feeling, is very important, very wise, very true and very much a proof of well traveled people!

    Nice video 👍
    Just to clarify few things.
    Tunisia has over 45 Islands
From the Far North, You have the Archipelago of Galite 150 km South of Sardinia and 80 km North of Tabarka.
And to the South you have the Island of Djerba.
And have other islands in Tunis, Nabeul, Monastir, Sfax, Medninne……
The Charfia is an old Amazigh-Berber fishing technique only in Tunisia.
Other countries may have adopted the same technique.
Regarding the name of the Islands of Kerkenah i’ve to do some research on that one.
Can’t be Roman that’s for sure.
Typical Roman they invade destroy the town, Rebuilt it again and give it a Roman name then say ; This is a Roman town or city 😂😂😂

Our country has more than 40 islands not just one 😅🤣🤣🤣
The military surveillance and control over kerknah is not due to your camera but to avoid the illegal immigration towards Europe..in fact, kerknah is the main spot from which those illegal migration's waves towards Europe initiate
For the old man who suggested to have you as guests ,if he's a Tunisian there is nothing to be afraid of it's just a way to show you his hospitality...Tunisians are very hospitable especially the southerners so don't worry about your safety among us but be careful of none Tunisians especially those Sub-Saharans who invaded recently our country in masses sfax is suffering due to them and yeah they are very dangerous so be vigilant
It's such a loss not to have a whole tour in the island despite all the tiresome of the transport and the movement...you did just watch the ferry not the island 😏🤣🤣
