My Dad and I were out that day so we had to avoid all mention of the score, then got back and watched it that evening. We were supporting Palace, and just sat there open-mouthed when this flew in. Amazing stuff.
I was 17 and in the Palace end... It was like someone reaching into your chest and literally ripping your heart out.... Mad thing is we did exactly the same thing to Sheff Utd the following year!!
Know what you mean. The 92/93 year we were 3-0 to Swindon and dragged it back to 3-3 then an atrocious dive was given as a penalty and we were done in. Then beat the sheep in 93/93 final and went up
Only a nipper when I saw this...but still ingrained into the memory. Remember my dad and grandad both hitting the roof when Claridge's 'shinner' went in. Tremendous, tremendous moment.
True what one of the other posters said....I was behind the goal when he hit it and honestly it WAS like in slow motion. When it hit the back of the net there was one second when the whole stadium went silent as if to say "is that a goal ?? " ...then we Leicester fans decided it was and went absolutely potty, bananas mental. I was drained when we came home but driving down Narborough road everyone was still out drinking and singing at 10pm...still brings a tear of joy to my eyes. THAT is what makes football the best sport in the world !!
My wife was so pissed that she was fast asleep when super Stevie popped it in...my brother in law and me celebrated madly for her anyway. It made up for Swindon 3 years earlier when we lost it in the last minute.
@SBOWsteffan He shinned it!!!!! he even says so himself, was gutted on the day as flew over for game, as a life long Palace fan I returned the following year to see us do that to Sheff United in the last min, amazing to do it at Wmbley the very next year.
I was at Wembley for '97. Hopkins goal was incredible technique. Infinitely beyond anything Claridge was capable of. It was incredible to win, especially after the year before. But knowing the utter agony I felt in '96, part of me felt bad for doing that to Sheff Utd. I had no issue with them. I wish it had been Leicester, but obviously it's literally not possible for two teams to meet in consecutive years! I cheered on Leicester in 2016, just for the novelty value, but that was a one off. I will relish on their demise this season, and it's all because of Steve Claridge 26 years ago. I realise your comment is from 12 years ago. Hope you're well.
Greatest play-off moment ever. No contest. Imagine if this had been on Sky, you’d never here the end of it.
I seem to remember this being on ITV or something. One of my early experiences of football on tv.

Remember it like it was yesterday ⚽🥅
Still the loudest crowd I've ever been in. Great game.
15 years ago today. I was 7 at the time and remember watching it with my dad. He went absolutely berserk when Claridge put it in :)
That the moment, I knew I was LCFC Supporter.
brings a tear to my eye every single time. and it still seems to go in slow motion.

horrible. just horrible... ironically we did exactly the same to Sheffield Utd the following year
Hopkin picked his spot and intentionally hit a screamer; Claridge spasticated a fluke off his shin
no shin pads
£1m for that carthorse?
lolololololololololololololololololololol
Off the shin winner by the convicted criminal Steve Claridge.
