This was my mother’s favorite song. When she passed at age 39, my father played it constantly. Still makes me think of her. On the 26th it will be 50 yrs since she passed. Thank you for this reaction.

I never thought of it as she took her own life. I took it that she was crying in the middle of the day after learning of her sickness that she eventually died from.
You had an interesting take I'm going to think about.

    • @SaeedReacts.
      @SaeedReacts.  26 днів тому +4

That was my idea too at first, till I thought some more about the breadcrumbs of crying.
She might have also been sick and just hidden it from him thats another possibility. Either way its really well written and allows for conversation which is what i enjoy a lot about these type of songs. True art.

No way she killed herself.. never even considered it. The tree was a tree.. the sad movie was a sad movie.. silly to think it meant sonething else. I have often cried when watching a movie. it doesn't mean I'm depressed. She just died.. and he misses her.

Yes, a main reason for NOT taking one's life is the words... that the "Angels came." That generally does not denote self inflicted.... Just too many illnesses that could have caused the angels to come. At least not to those of us back-in-the-day would angels denote what is generally sin to self inflict.

    • @hackermusic3355

@@davidw7 You are right about that. I was a preacher's son who grew up in the church in Alabama in the 60s and most people thought suicide would keep you out of heaven.
Now many more people would consider the underlying mental illness a mitigating factor during judgment.

I was a kid when this came out. From a family with 11 kids. We had an extra living room at one end of the house. I walked into that room one night; no lights were on, and this song was playing on our record player. My brother Charlie was lyng on the couch in there listening. When he was 19 he died, mountain climbing in the Grand Tetons. The two things go together. Sensitive Honey, sensitive Charlie, both gone too soon.

Bobby Goldsboro was a pop & country singer-songwriter from the 60's-70's. "Honey" was his biggest hit but he had a lot of great songs including "See The Funny Little Clown", "Summer (The First Time)", "It's Too Late", "Little Things", "Too Many People", "With Pen In Hand", "Hello Summertime", "Watching Scotty Grow" etc. Some of his songs were performed by other artists such as Brenda Lee, Dolly Parton, John Denver.

I am what you would think is old, 70. But age is mostly a number if you choose it. I am so delighted to see beautiful younger people are bothering to look back. Music from the 1950’s to about 1990 are just The Best! And remember to know this I had to look back as well. Don’t limit yourself by type either. Good music is colorless as mists also are. Listen and decide! Thanks for making my day. A fellow music lover!

That was from my teenage years! Talk about a blast from the past! He said the Angels came and took her, that doesn't sound like suicide to me. In fact, that never crossed my mind. I just assumed she got ill and died! Describes me and my late husband to a T except that I planted the tree and he laughed at me telling me I'd never live long enough to see it fruit. That was at least 15 years ago and it has a trunk that 's about 12 inches and it was a twig when I planted. I'm sad he never got to see it get so big!

Loved your reaction. You always look for the deeper meaning in the lyrics. So many people just gloss over them. I loved this song since it first came out--- I always seem to gravitate toward the emotional ones. I never thought of it as a song about suicide, just about loss to an undescribed illness. Suicide wasn't talked about back when this came out like it is today with all the emphasis on mental health that is in the news. Like many songs, however, it can mean different things to different people. Gail L.

Oh, god, I hated this song back then, but I was about 20 yrs old, so this kind of emotional, pull-your-heart-strings, country song was just not what I wanted to hear. At the time, I was all into 60s-70s folk-rock, R&B, Motown, Psychedelic Rock, etc. Anything that sounded even remotely 'Country' was never on my play list. You know how young people can be at that age. LOL! It's much more tolerable to me now. People did love it, though, it played non-stop on the radio--if I remember right, it hit #1 on the charts. Goldsboro does have a beautiful voice!

I definitely can relate to that. Songs that didnt really do it for me years ago now hit totally different.

Hi, Saeed😊 it seems I keep getting you emotional with these song choices. I really don't mean to make you sad. These are songs I grew up with, and they all spoke to me ...some right away, and some that took on more meaning as I grew older, so I just wanted to give you an understanding of how it was back then in the 60's and 70's, and share that era with you. This one, to me came out and depicted life that wasn't as complicated as it is today. Pictuing a small cottage, her flower bed that she took pride in. The love they shared. And maybe, she didn't tell him of her diagnosis because she didn't want to hurt him. Ah, the love they shared, and how he missed her, and anyone that would listen, he would say " see the tree how big it has grown" and then keeping her memory alive by sharing their love story. I also love your take, Saeed. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for your humble reaction. ❤😊

Amazing song. Definitely hits hard, but i love exploring this side of being human as well.
Definitely my mind went to a darker place than it maybe needed to be.
Thanks so much for this request and sharing your interpretation. I think its spot on. ❤️

For a skillfully written song portraying the ins and outs of a long term marriage, check out "Darling Lorraine" by Paul Simon. Wonderful stuff!

You should do a reaction to Gary Allen THE BEST I Ever Had. It's about his wife who committed suicide. I saw him preform the song live and you could tell he was getting very emotional while he sang the song.

@@SaeedReacts. I think when he caught her crying in the middle of the day, she had received the bad news of some condition. As often happens, someone will pass when the one they love most is not there. Maybe he had run to the store.
