I love your personality, you come off as very smart, funny, and knowledgeable. I’m just a regular guy who fell in love with the ancient world as a kid. I regret not studying this in college. I love your channel and your videos.
Glad I discovered your channel! It's been a few years since I finished my masters in Ancient History and went off to work in a different field, so your videos are a great way for me to dip my toes back into the subject. Excellent videos 😁
New sub here, love your passion, enthusiasm, scope of knowledge and work on the classical world, seems like plenty of fascinating content to go through Erica
@@MoAnInc been binge watching your vids, love to see your passion, interest and humour in these, some great interviews too Reminded of how much there is despite the huge loss of so much from the classical and ancient world I imagine you'd dream of getting inside an actual ancient library or theatre. As I'm sure many of your subscribers would, which seem to be accumulating currently All the best
Tacitus is interesting as there are verses in Germania that continued to apply to Germanic cultures as late as the Viking Age. such as Germanic peoples preferring silver over gold in trade, hunter-gatherer tribes in the far north Scandinavia (perhaps the ancestors of Finns or Sami), the right for women to divorce their husbands, plus various other writers mentioning women warriors which is always interesting
Beautifully done account of Tacitus, Erica! I wonder if it's a Classics-nut thing; but I was about eleven years old when I got into ancient Greek & Roman history too. Never looked back since.
I don't know if you will see this but.....Hey Erica, new subscriber here.. I was just curious with Stephen Fry's Mythos book, does it also talk about the different creatures from Greek mythology like minotaurus, cyclops, Etc...? I know it references the gods and myths but what else?
I am so looking forward to more Tacitus. Anything you want to share (or send me to read) I will listen or find in the library to read. Thanks so much Erica!!
A very knowledgeable lady with a real passion for your subject. I have only just stumbled upon your UA-cam channel but subscribed and signed up for emails on your website. I look forward to seeing many more and watching your previous videos.
That Freudian slip about Cicero made me wonder if you've ever made a video about him? It's a name I recognise but know very little of, so would be very interested in your take on him.
Hi, I make sure to reply to as many comments as I can within a week of them being posted. Your original comment was made six days ago, so I would hope you would understand if it takes me a bit of time to get to every single comment given how many I get under each video. There’s only one of me and 25k of you. That’s fine if you want to unsubscribe, but I think it’s a bit ridiculous to assume I can get to all of my comments immediately after they’ve been left considering I get around forty a day. Regardless, I will be uploading more on Thucydides in the future if you’d like to return at any point.
So, exisntential doubt here. Original ancient latin pronunciation was "Takitus"? As a Mexican, that would just make it completely impossible for me to take his work seriously lol
Well it's kind of obvious that he only likes vespasian because he is the one in power at the time and it would be suicidal to critizise the emperor. Dead men on the other hand they can't really go after you, can they?
Itane sentis sermonem Taciti esse iucundum? Mihi quidem difficilis et laboriosus videtur. Sed hac de re dubitari nequit, quin ille fuerit rerum scriptor, quo neminem apud Romanos invenias meliorem.
Troy (2004) doesn't have Greek Gods and Goddesses (You already know that right?) Troy: Fall of a City (2018) does have Greek Gods and Goddesses (only Zeus, Hera, Hermes, Aphrodite, and Athena)

Awesome💯 new sub!!
Thank you!
What do you call it when you accept everything said in Germania as accurate?
Tacitus approval.
Very entertaining and informative intro😊 Impressed by your knowledge and ambition to build this historical literature based channel💪👍

Tacitus, thank you!
🤩
@@MoAnInc My favorite!
Anyone who reads Tacitus at eleven is in the History Club.
Or just takes the subject during the regular school hours … like I did 😂
Very helpful as usual. One day Erica should tell about her own classics education.
Thanks for watching!!
Did Tacitus have much of a contemporary Roman audience or did he write for his desk drawer?
❤
:)
Tacitus was the greatest roman historian :)
Let’s hope the house of the papyri has complete sets…

No but because I did that I’ve added him to my next filming batch as punishment 😂 So he’ll be coming either towards the end of September or October!!

Tacticus - almost as angry as Marshal.
Is there going to more on Thucydides?
You can't answer a fan? UNSUBBED.

Troy: Fall of a City (2018)
