How To Use A Weightlifting Belt (IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK)

  • When most use a weightlifting belt, they do so incorrectly. Ask yourself if this scene sounds familiar. You look towards the squat rack and see an athlete struggling with all their might to fasten their belt as tightly around their stomachs as possible as if they are donning an 18th century corset.

    Proper use of a belt is much more than just wearing it tightly around your stomach! In order to properly use a belt, you must breathe “into the belt”. If you only cinch it tight, you miss out on the benefits the belt has to offer. Always think about expanding your stomach into the belt and then bracing against it.

    If you read the norse saga's Thor used a weight lifting belt. If he was about to do something that required ultra strength he would put his belt on first. So even the vikings recognised the power of the belt.

    Really like the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxKE8pP77yruPYa7SBcl0a72pDnIHtz0wF because the placement of the weights on the perimeter of the vest makes it easy to use for a variety of activities without the weights interfering with any activities. Had an issue after 6 months when the strap holding the top buckle tore out. I contacted Aduro customer support and they took care of me.

    Would love to see a follow up to this with regards to use and positioning. Mostly how it relates to squats and how to prevent a belt affecting form (pushing knees out wider, or if it keeps you more upright). Also stuff like comfort, breaking in a belt, how often to use a belt.

    • @bailewen
      @bailewen Рік тому +1

      @@jason2014 Cuz pause squats tax your intra-abdominal pressure more than anything else I've ever experienced. I'm only an intermediate lifter. Pause squats were from my coach cuz I was mostly failing sets when I stopped being able to inhale at the top. My chest would just collapse and I couldn't get a good deep breath in any more. So we started doing pause squats. Breath in normally up top, hold it, down, keep holding, up, breath out at the top again. It's like just adding time under tension for your diaphragm and chest cavity.

    With lever arch belts, should the lever be set to feel tight pre or post brace? This might sound like a stupid question but I can''t find the answer easily. My belt can feel tight with a good brace before I actually clasp the belt and the belt can inhibit my diaphragmatic breathing before I brace when it is clasped. Do you think I would get more out of the belt if I loosened it slightly and refitted it so it's sized to my braced core rather than relaxed core?

Now don't get me wrong, some of the information is sound... But if your squat suddenly gets a whole lot stronger the second you put the belt on, you got a weak core or aren't bracing correctly...

    As a graphic designer what is bothering is the word "S Q U A T" behind you in the banner, there is a serious issue with the kerning between the letters 😄😄😄

    When you brace do you hold your breath during repetition or brace and breathe normally? Also do you use your belt on every session or only for max ?

    As a fat guy how tight on my belly should a belt be? All lifting belt vids are for skinny people

    After putting it, I'm twisting the wide part to be at the front. Otherwise it feels like its splitting my belly in half 🍑

    Screw weight belts. I have squatted heavy for 30 years, normally finished repping with 500 lbs. Never had a problem or pain. One day recently wore a belt, squatted 500, and that stupid belt pushed all the pressure up and out my belly button, and gave me an umbilical hernia. Had to get surgery last week to get it fixed. Never again.
