Having been a milwright for 40 years I can say that frustration and struggling is the mother of invention for sure. Always great to see new stuff that make everyday jobs easier and more efficient. Good stuff Doc.

Been a mechanic I mean er technician for 25 years and I tell every young guy or girl that wants to work on vehicles of any wheel count..... There's a tool for every job, If you have to borrow a tool 3 times, get one, don't try to rig stuff when the tool is cheap and available. You rig stuff when the tool is more expensive than the replacement of the parts your replacing. You almost never find a tool that's more expensive than a drivetrain component. If you can build your own tools to save money? Look at the design of the ones sold and try to make it as close or better. Great video doc

100% agree. I go through my tool box and look at the tools that where used daily, now not so much. My timing light. Carb adjustment tools etc , do you need a wrench for a Cadillac Eldorado diesel pump from 1980 ? Keep everything 😎👍🏼

@@davidrand4883 and one day that pump wrench will wind up being used for some odd ball something or nother and will save your ass.... Remember setting point Gap and checking dwell😂😂 "younger people are like wtf is dwell ? Some generic computer company??" 😂😂

Wow, that’s just what every selfmade Harley mechanic needs.
No more metal eating metal. That’s a very big plus.
Stupidly dropping tools like we all sometimes do is more likely to not lead to scratches.
I trust it is a lot more affordable also?

Very interesting doc. I’ve never been big on any plastic tools for bikes or cars. I’ve mostly made all my specialty tools over the years out of necessity and poverty. They all still do the job and only cost me time to make. But new tool designs are a very fun thing to see.

Speaking of plastic/ 3D printed tools...has anyone created a better funnel that makes it easier when adding primary fluid to a bike with passenger running boards? I bought the funny 'half moon' shaped funnel at my local dealer but still have difficulty because of the location of the floorboard.

Hi Doc, it's nice to have all these special tools, which are well designed and helpful.
BUT - shouldn't it be better to spend more energy in the design of the engines and frames etc., than in special tools.
Make things easier, use standard tools.
How many money has a dealer to invest, to buy special tools?
Just a critically though about this item. Thank you for the video.

The future is no different for Harley than it has become for auto manufacturers. Instead of repairing or rebuilding, dealerships will be encouraged to just replace. It's already getting that way. I needed some very minor work done to my coil over for my 2020 Softail, and they couldn't do it because they had no spring compression tool. I asked how could any respectable shop not have a spring compression tool? Their answer was "Harley tells us to just replace the shock instead of rebuild or work on them, so we have no need for the tool".
