Namely that other world's exist, other worlds are created from the choices that are made, and that these world's can sometimes meet/merge with others. It is my opinion that Aerith lived and died at the end. A version of her is now living in a alternate timeline created by Cloud blocking the strike but only he is able to perceive that world. The ending is confusing but I think it would have been even MORE confusing without Zack basically being the 'vessel' for which we see how this newly introduced multiverse works
You've gotta go back and play INTERmission DLC. BTW. Rufus fight is amazing & easy if you understand how it works. Also, you cannot buy the materia that you get from Chadley elsewhere. You can only get it from him. Also, Gongaga was by far my favorite region to explore. It genuinely felt like an adventure. Especially the ancient ruins you get to explore if you delve deep enough into Gongaga exploration. Also, Remake and Rebirth are basically a sequel to the OG game and Advent Children movie, so I highly suggest you to go back and play the OG.
@@patrickt6227 Because Sephiroth time travelled from the future, after the events of the Advent Children movie specifically to ensure he'd win. All the divergences in plot from the original start with him changing things. The Planet caught on and gave Aerith visions of the future which she lost after leaving Midgar and the whole fighting the embodiment of destiny boss fight. Yes it's silly and crazy but a lot of the more well known devs on this worked on Kingdom Hearts too and from what I've heard about it a plot like this is in that wheelhouse.
The Zack portion has a savings grace, which is that you can entirely turn it off in the options menu. Do this prior to starting your hard mode playthrough and it'll go much faster.

This is a good review and I’m glad it’s from someone who didn’t play the original. This is how we felt back in 97 and now we know that ot still has the same effect despite the new decisions square made
I'm here for the Cloud love. If you love him as a protagonist now I have full confidence you'll love what's coming up for him in part 3. Even going purely by the original game he's one of the best protagonists in gaming for me. Edit: nice edit putting in the Majula theme when talking about Aerith.
Zack is pretty important, Cloud took on his persona as his living legacy. If you played crisis core, you would see how Zack is Aerith true love. Maybe he is just a lost soul in the life stream that the whispers pulled out to help battle Sephiroth.
As respectfully as possible(because this is not intended to come across as insulting, condescending or starting a fight)no he didn't. Bro forgot his friend who died saving his life and in the AC movie that is a big part of why he's so miserable(failing Aerith being the other). Zack was never the cold hardass Cloud pretends to be, can you honestly see Zack reacting to Barret's speech about the cries of the Planet by saying "Get help" or saying things like "Not my problem" or demanding money for his services? Cloud's persona is an edgy loner's, as that was Cloud as a teenager, idealized version of what a Soldier was supposed to be and took Zack's stories he was told while comatose and filled in the blanks himself with what sounded cool to him.
@CrazyxEnigma well i didn't mean he completely took his persona -_-. He lived his dreams and ambition on being a merc and do other odd jobs that Zack wanted. There was supposed to be a year of them traveling together Zack Carrying him the whole time most likely telling and teaching him his life. So No Zack is still important to fans wanting a good Ending for his story.

Honestly, not sure why people hate on Remake taking place entirely in Midgar... that's easily the most iconic and interesting location in the entire game. Loved what they did with it!
On the one hand, I somewhat agree with the Zack sections, however, he is important to the overall story, especially Cloud's story, and you won't really see how until part 3. In the OG he was actually kind of a side/secret cutscene character, but was fleshed out in Crisis Core. I won't say that you have to play crisis core or the OG to get why he's there, but I do understand why the devs of this remake would not only include him, but try to make the audience more aware of him, as opposed to just being in a few cutscenes in the og. Definitely a sort of "wait and see" type thing. If you don't know already don't spoil yourself!
As a long time fan, it’s fun seeing what you make of the story as a first time player. Some of your assertions are spot on, others miss the mark by a small but significant bit. Can’t wait to see what you make of the third game. Cheers, subscribed
This game is the easiest 10/10 in a long time, game of the year for sure, though ff7 original purists and people who suck at either the minigames or base combat will disagree
Both remake and rebirth as a whole is for right now spectacular. They know it’s roots, their visually making every character feel even more alive then in the og as well as be courageous by introducing new insights of the world we didn’t think on two decades ago that made a lot of us think. This is definitely a resurgence that is feeding its fans well

@@danielcarney1021yeah there was a recent dev interview where they were saying that if they developed for multiple platforms, they would have to cut back on quite a bit of features to make sure it works. Doing it for just one allowed them to focus more on the game than sparing time to get ports to work.
Great review. I had the exact same feelings for the game as you did and about the confusing ending. Although I did like Zack. I felt Biggs was a completely wasted character and poor Wedge, I didn't like at all what they did to him. I was like really...
They literally killed Wedge off screen in a f*cking side quest. Literally what was the point of keeping him alive past the plate coming down this time just to kill him off when the party escapes Midgar?!?!?! Dumb, wasted Biggs too that I agree with.
Easy 10/10. Forget the story changes, which i also enjoy but concede migt be more of a personal taste, Rebirth is a masterpiece on all fronts. Tons and tons of content, FUN content, new additions to the battle system that improve on what was already an amazing system, great worldbuilding, a even better soundtrack... Seriously. A near flawless execution.

I'm on the brutal Charley vr challenges & they're appropriately named "brutal" it's fun but damn is it hard & frustrating to lose on the 10th round & have to restart from round 1. Just a couple unbalanced enemies make it less than fun tbh "White terrror" worst enemy in the game by far.
Rebirth is easy GOTY for me. I haven't had such an incredible experience and been so attached to characters and a game since FF7 OG and the Mass Effect series. Every game I'm trying to play after FF7 Rebirth right now just seems so unpolished and lacking comparatively. Also nobody is giving nearly enough praise of this game for having no microtransactions or any other nonsense despite having an absolutely absurd amount of content.
I think I've got part 3 summons figured out and they're pretty spicy. Asura/Godo- Wutai region summon. Returning from FFIV and og 7. It makes sense as to why we got Leviathan in part 1, not Wutai. Submarine and Airship. I could see both getting a summon instead of being cid's limit. Maybe if you're near water, Sub gets summoned for one attack and during Emerald Boss fight. Airship cameo attack during Ultima Weapon boss. They just for perfectly as summons. Shit add in the Buggy with a Dig mode for caves. It just makes sense that we finally get our own Man Made Tech summon similar to Shinra using Mechs as theirs. Typhon will go to Mideel. Kotr round island accessible as the true final boss similar to Bahamut in pt.1 Zero Bahamut come to think of it could throw a wrench in Airship and summon locations but I digress. I suppose Junon in pt 3 could get the sub summon and glacier could get Mideel. Hades will be the North Crater summon. I guess Space Bahamut works here too. Round island should be in the sky to allude to an ffix connection.
This is my first final fantasy game i skip on the remake but did know the story and i knew about the original but i love this game rebirth is just so good the story the characters talking just perfect

The beginning of the movie gives a recap of the original game. At the end of Final Fantasy VII the original, Meteor is halted by Holy and The Life Stream. Then Advent Children occurs. @@link5629Sephiroth says at the end of AC he won't be just a memory and has the Black Feathers thing which is also a AC thing so not long after the events of the movie he time travels and only Aerith knows for sure there was another timeline. There's some hints Cloud might also be a time traveler but that's just theories with little other evidence then him reacting to visions and his theme song Hollow which imo is an ode to Aerith and him dealing with her loss. Square is also taking the opportunity to make the expanded material that came out after FF7 fit more cohesively into the narrative like Avalanche as an example Barret and his group were excommunicated for being too extreme whereas it use to be Barret was too soft. DoC wasn't liked all that much and in Intermission they have put DoC characters in with Nero and Weiss so that story won't happen as it did but they'll do something else with those characters.

Final fantasy and kingdom hearts are all square should worry about! Kingdom hearts it’s a great franchise with hardly a bad entry and final fantasy (if they keep going like ff16 and ff7) is the premier jrpg square needs to double down on those two franchises for a while
Zack and the Ending were designed for people that played the original. That's kinda why you don't really care about them. But I think it's fine. The Game was really well built for both demographics and I don't think the Ending or Zack's scenes ruin the game.
I know it's a video with spoilers, but I'm hiding my reply because there's a very high chance (imo) that I'm right and it'll be explained in the next game. . . . . . . . . . . . Aerith's (emotional) death scene was when she gave the materia to Cloud and Sephiroth showed up behind her... indicating he was literally hunting every version of her down. The scene that was close to the OG game was Sephiroth flexing on Cloud. Basically a "You thought you could save her, but you can't" because he's gaining more and more control over all timelines. And after that, Cloud can still believe he saved her, which allows Sephiroth and/or Jenova to manipulating him FAAAAAR more easily. Pay attention to that last cinematic. Aerith is only there when Cloud is paying attention to her. And she looks.. off. Just a little. And her conversation with Cloud is completely different than anything they've had before. Aerith went from "I got Sephiroth. You fix yourself" to Cloud saying he's stop Sephiroth and she's all "YOU PROMISE?!" Which is a total 180 from what she said literally 15(ish) minutes prior. To me, this means Aerith is either in Cloud's head (and not a Lifestream Ghost thing)... or, more likely (to me)... Sephiroth or Jenova messing with Cloud. After all, we did just leave the temple where it was said Jenova took the form of people that were dead... and Sephiroth did the exact same thing to Rufus with Glen... "But Red XIII!.." Even in the OG game, Red was shown he could be fooled. So I don't feel like he's the A-HA people seem to think. Of course, I could be entirely wrong. Disclaimer: All thoughts are mine, but also heavily influenced via Maximilan_DOOD's playthru and thoughts.
The promise thing is a result of bad translation, she doesn't say that in Japanese or any other language from what I've heard(the promise thing specially goes against what Square has been setting up between their characters)I wouldn't be surprised if they end up changing it just like Remake changed that line where Aerith says she hates the sky when it turned out that big rift in the sky in the other timeline and Cloud sees at the very end? Aerith could see it the whole time. Translators didn't know that though.

The ending remains as Advent Children movies. They added multiversals part just to make Aerith and Zack deaths better and worthy as lifestream spirits. I think peoples no worry about ending, generally is still same. If you dont care about what happens in 'afterlife' after their deaths you ignore all those cliff hangers just like you can skip all Zack cutscenes after first playthrough. Then you found actually it still inline and tally with OG. Whats for 100% sure, Aerith and Zack both are not in reality anymore with Cloud & co, in AC and Dirge of Cerberus. You can said Aerith & Zack became angels/ghosts that protecting planet as spirits, like Jedi in starwars You can openly imagine 99 worlds cloud and aerith together, but the canon is only 1, we have to accept Aerith has became an angel, it can be everywhere but physically not.

Game was good, not great. Solid 7/10. Storywise not close to the masterpiece that was the original. Will only win game of the year if nothing beats 7-8/10. I dont see it having any replay value what so every, A lot of long repetetive tasks. Not a bad game, but having the material they had to work with, this should have been the greatest game ever released. FF7 org produced like 10 other medias and has been played for 25+ years. I will be really surprised if people talk of rebirth ad legendary status in 2050. But Im happy to hear some people enjoyed it and didnt share my dissapointment, especially concerning different timelines which always create a nonlogical mess in every story its introduced.
7/10 and not replayable you’re crazy lol this game has the best hard mode and Chadleys 70 hard battles are great. Ending was awesome and game is easilly 150 hours of gameplay

This game is depressing. From start to finish, it's the saddest game I've ever played. Even in the whacky moments, most of the party is miserable and devastated.
Not really Just a bunch of minigames and now there's a bug preventing platinum trophy. Oh yeah, doing stuff for Chadley too. More like laziness development than an actual game.
Classic 5/10. Great moments. Overall okay but too much bloat, fun but overly repetative minigames, endless time-waste gimmicks and boring ending. Chadley interrupting any potential fun every 5 minutes was the worst.

Amazing game. Awful ending. Because the ending was so bad, it left a bitter taste in my mouth, and that's what I'm left with, but after some cooldown, I'm sure I'll understand that 95% of the game is amazing. I just wish the garbage stuff was in the middle and not the end. It's like GoT. Amazing series, but that last season killed the entire series for some.
Its worth noting, Chadley offers alot of unique materia that can't be purchased from vending machines. So its definitely worth gaining the intel in order to grab some of them.

Seriously though, Fire/Ice, Light/Wind, and Poison/Petrify from Chadley were super important investments in time. And for the plat achievement (combat trials) materia like those, Swiftcast, Magic Focus, etc are essential.
So i think youre getting a bit mixed up in the ending. Cloud cant see different timelines, because the timelines are merged (thats what Sepiroth was doing when he killed Aerith, and why he was hunting her down in every timeline). Aerith knew this was going to happen which is why she tells Cloud not to blame himself. Basically, Cloud did save Aerith, which caused a new timeline to form (visualised by the rainbow effect), but it didnt matter because the timelines were merged into one, one where Aerith dies. When this happens, Clouds mind totally breaks. He remembers saving Aerith, so his brain rejects the current reality where she dies. The Aerith at the end of the game isnt her from another timeline, its a figment of Clouds mind protecting him from reality. Without going into future spoilers, its the exact same thing he does for a different traumatic event he experienced previosuly, where his mind refuses to accept something that happened and convinces cloud it never happened. If you like the fact Cloud is spiralling into madness, this is just adding to that. Cloud is fucked up. Like, really, really fucked up.
I agree with you but there are definitely some odd holes. As far as narrative goes there isn't a better way to do than it be a cloud / Jenova / Sephiroth manip, fingers crossed it's that.
@@asmronly24 We gettin into physics with this one! It's my understanding that her praying is creating a singularity that Sephiroth wants to manipulate. "Yes Aerith, Pray" at this point he reaches into the sky and the rainbow bit opens up. Killing her is Sephiroth crossing the event horizon, allowing him to see the merging of worlds to fruition and harvesting all that sweet sweet sorrow.

They know it’s roots, their visually making every character feel even more alive then in the og as well as be courageous by introducing new insights of the world we didn’t think on two decades ago that made a lot of us think. This is definitely a resurgence that is feeding its fans well

@@danielcarney1021yeah there was a recent dev interview where they were saying that if they developed for multiple platforms, they would have to cut back on quite a bit of features to make sure it works. Doing it for just one allowed them to focus more on the game than sparing time to get ports to work.
Great review. I had the exact same feelings for the game as you did and about the confusing ending. Although I did like Zack. I felt Biggs was a completely wasted character and poor Wedge, I didn't like at all what they did to him. I was like really...
They literally killed Wedge off screen in a f*cking side quest. Literally what was the point of keeping him alive past the plate coming down this time just to kill him off when the party escapes Midgar?!?!?! Dumb, wasted Biggs too that I agree with.

Forget the story changes, which i also enjoy but concede migt be more of a personal taste, Rebirth is a masterpiece on all fronts. Tons and tons of content, FUN content, new additions to the battle system that improve on what was already an amazing system, great worldbuilding, a even better soundtrack...

I was agreeing with everything up until the Zack part 😢 those were my favorite moments because I Iove Zack so much from Crisis Core that whenever I saw him I'd get a shot of endorphins 😢 ❤

I'm on the brutal Charley vr challenges & they're appropriately named "brutal" it's fun but damn is it hard & frustrating to lose on the 10th round & have to restart from round 1. Just a couple unbalanced enemies make it less than fun tbh

Rebirth is easy GOTY for me. I haven't had such an incredible experience and been so attached to characters and a game since FF7 OG and the Mass Effect series. Every game I'm trying to play after FF7 Rebirth right now just seems so unpolished and lacking comparatively.
Also nobody is giving nearly enough praise of this game for having no microtransactions or any other nonsense despite having an absolutely absurd amount of content.
I think I've got part 3 summons figured out and they're pretty spicy.
Asura/Godo- Wutai region summon. Returning from FFIV and og 7. It makes sense as to why we got Leviathan in part 1, not Wutai.
Submarine and Airship. I could see both getting a summon instead of being cid's limit. Maybe if you're near water, Sub gets summoned for one attack and during Emerald Boss fight. Airship cameo attack during Ultima Weapon boss. They just for perfectly as summons. Shit add in the Buggy with a Dig mode for caves. It just makes sense that we finally get our own Man Made Tech summon similar to Shinra using Mechs as theirs.
Typhon will go to Mideel.
Kotr round island accessible as the true final boss similar to Bahamut in pt.1
Zero Bahamut come to think of it could throw a wrench in Airship and summon locations but I digress. I suppose Junon in pt 3 could get the sub summon and glacier could get Mideel. Hades will be the North Crater summon. I guess Space Bahamut works here too. Round island should be in the sky to allude to an ffix connection.

To me, and the definition of a sequel, is a continuation of a story. Example, Toy story 1, 2, 3. It's all a continuation of one story.
Advent Children is an actual sequel of FFVII. It is a direct continuation of the story. The beginning of the movie gives a recap of the original game.
At the end of Final Fantasy VII the original, Meteor is halted by Holy and The Life Stream. Then Advent Children occurs. At the end of that movie, cloud is standing amongst a group of children in the church and he see's Aerith and Zack, who are dead and the movie ends.
My question is this: IF Remake is a sequel to FFVII and AC, (an immediate continuation of the story) At which point after Cloud sees the ghosts of Aerith and Zack do the events of Remake commence?
If what you say is true, and I'm understanding your point of view the order of games goes like this:
1 FFVII Original
2 Advent Children
3 Remake/Rebirth/Reunion
Where does Dirge of Cerberus fit into all this?

To me, sequel does not mean a game that was released in the real world after another. For example, in the real world, Final fantasy 8 was released after Final fantasy 6. That doesn't mean its a sequel. They are two different stories.

@@link5629Sephiroth says at the end of AC he won't be just a memory and has the Black Feathers thing which is also a AC thing so not long after the events of the movie he time travels and only Aerith knows for sure there was another timeline. There's some hints Cloud might also be a time traveler but that's just theories with little other evidence then him reacting to visions and his theme song Hollow which imo is an ode to Aerith and him dealing with her loss.
Square is also taking the opportunity to make the expanded material that came out after FF7 fit more cohesively into the narrative like Avalanche as an example Barret and his group were excommunicated for being too extreme whereas it use to be Barret was too soft. DoC wasn't liked all that much and in Intermission they have put DoC characters in with Nero and Weiss so that story won't happen as it did but they'll do something else with those characters.

Zack and the Ending were designed for people that played the original. That's kinda why you don't really care about them. But I think it's fine. The Game was really well built for both demographics and I don't think the Ending or Zack's scenes ruin the game.

Aerith's (emotional) death scene was when she gave the materia to Cloud and Sephiroth showed up behind her... indicating he was literally hunting every version of her down. The scene that was close to the OG game was Sephiroth flexing on Cloud. Basically a "You thought you could save her, but you can't" because he's gaining more and more control over all timelines. And after that, Cloud can still believe he saved her, which allows Sephiroth and/or Jenova to manipulating him FAAAAAR more easily. Pay attention to that last cinematic. Aerith is only there when Cloud is paying attention to her. And she looks.. off. Just a little. And her conversation with Cloud is completely different than anything they've had before. Aerith went from "I got Sephiroth. You fix yourself" to Cloud saying he's stop Sephiroth and she's all "YOU PROMISE?!" Which is a total 180 from what she said literally 15(ish) minutes prior. To me, this means Aerith is either in Cloud's head (and not a Lifestream Ghost thing)... or, more likely (to me)... Sephiroth or Jenova messing with Cloud. After all, we did just leave the temple where it was said Jenova took the form of people that were dead... and Sephiroth did the exact same thing to Rufus with Glen...
"But Red XIII!.." Even in the OG game, Red was shown he could be fooled. So I don't feel like he's the A-HA people seem to think.

The promise thing is a result of bad translation, she doesn't say that in Japanese or any other language from what I've heard(the promise thing specially goes against what Square has been setting up between their characters)I wouldn't be surprised if they end up changing it just like Remake changed that line where Aerith says she hates the sky when it turned out that big rift in the sky in the other timeline and Cloud sees at the very end? Aerith could see it the whole time. Translators didn't know that though.

They added multiversals part just to make Aerith and Zack deaths better and worthy as lifestream spirits.
I think peoples no worry about ending, generally is still same. If you dont care about what happens in 'afterlife' after their deaths you ignore all those cliff hangers just like you can skip all Zack cutscenes after first playthrough. Then you found actually it still inline and tally with OG.
Whats for 100% sure, Aerith and Zack both are not in reality anymore with Cloud & co, in AC and Dirge of Cerberus.

Game was good, not great. Solid 7/10. Storywise not close to the masterpiece that was the original. Will only win game of the year if nothing beats 7-8/10. I dont see it having any replay value what so every, A lot of long repetetive tasks. Not a bad game, but having the material they had to work with, this should have been the greatest game ever released. FF7 org produced like 10 other medias and has been played for 25+ years. I will be really surprised if people talk of rebirth ad legendary status in 2050. But Im happy to hear some people enjoyed it and didnt share my dissapointment, especially concerning different timelines which always create a nonlogical mess in every story its introduced.
7/10 and not replayable you’re crazy lol this game has the best hard mode and Chadleys 70 hard battles are great. Ending was awesome and game is easilly 150 hours of gameplay

Classic 5/10. Great moments. Overall okay but too much bloat, fun but overly repetative minigames, endless time-waste gimmicks and boring ending. Chadley interrupting any potential fun every 5 minutes was the worst.

Amazing game. Awful ending. Because the ending was so bad, it left a bitter taste in my mouth, and that's what I'm left with, but after some cooldown, I'm sure I'll understand that 95% of the game is amazing. I just wish the garbage stuff was in the middle and not the end. It's like GoT. Amazing series, but that last season killed the entire series for some.
The best materia comes from Chadley though.
Its worth noting, Chadley offers alot of unique materia that can't be purchased from vending machines. So its definitely worth gaining the intel in order to grab some of them.

Seriously though, Fire/Ice, Light/Wind, and Poison/Petrify from Chadley were super important investments in time. And for the plat achievement (combat trials) materia like those, Swiftcast, Magic Focus, etc are essential.

So i think youre getting a bit mixed up in the ending. Cloud cant see different timelines, because the timelines are merged (thats what Sepiroth was doing when he killed Aerith, and why he was hunting her down in every timeline). Aerith knew this was going to happen which is why she tells Cloud not to blame himself. Basically, Cloud did save Aerith, which caused a new timeline to form (visualised by the rainbow effect), but it didnt matter because the timelines were merged into one, one where Aerith dies. When this happens, Clouds mind totally breaks. He remembers saving Aerith, so his brain rejects the current reality where she dies. The Aerith at the end of the game isnt her from another timeline, its a figment of Clouds mind protecting him from reality. Without going into future spoilers, its the exact same thing he does for a different traumatic event he experienced previosuly, where his mind refuses to accept something that happened and convinces cloud it never happened. If you like the fact Cloud is spiralling into madness, this is just adding to that. Cloud is fucked up. Like, really, really fucked up.
I agree with you but there are definitely some odd holes. As far as narrative goes there isn't a better way to do than it be a cloud / Jenova / Sephiroth manip, fingers crossed it's that.
Didn't like it at first but I like what they are doing with Cloud and the ending. Very unsettling.

@@asmronly24 We gettin into physics with this one! It's my understanding that her praying is creating a singularity that Sephiroth wants to manipulate. "Yes Aerith, Pray" at this point he reaches into the sky and the rainbow bit opens up. Killing her is Sephiroth crossing the event horizon, allowing him to see the merging of worlds to fruition and harvesting all that sweet sweet sorrow.
