DJI Mavic Pro Controller with iPad mini 2
Вставка

- I decided to try out the DJI Mavic controller with my iPad mini 2 just to see if it would fit without any extra holders or adaptors...
note the DJI app is only compatible with the iPad mini 2 and later

you should be able to pop that little plastic piece in and out without breaking it so you get a perfect fit on both sides.
Pro tip from Sean Ozz. 👏
thanks Sean
Thank you for your advice! This is an incredible simple solution, which nobody has seen, except you. And until now.
Greetings from Berlin, Germany
Cheers
Erm he's not the only one! This isn't Highlander! And it's crap handling like he shows. Absolute pants. A Pgytec tablet holder is the answer. 🤗
that's excellent thx for sharing this with us all, I was always put off the mavic for the reason of not being able to put a ipad mini on it but there is clearly a way as you demonstrated so now I feel like I would buy one, I have the phantom 4 pro but not happy lugging it up mountains on my trips away. I am doing a vlog on drone shortly on my channel as I firmly believe and always have done that it add more to my landscape photography.
You’re welcome! Also you can pop the little cable holder out so the iPad sits level
Yessssssss - this is fantastic Jake ! Thanks a lot for sharing. Will do the same once I've got my Mavic.
John Coffee
Jake Sloan I'm still waiting for it - unbelievable. 3 months now...
I've ordered it at a local distributor in Switzerland and yet he's waiting for the Combo's coming in. Apparently the standard Mavic pro's have been delivered to some customers...
Perfect
I am so glad I found this video. The video quality of the Mavic FPV is spectacular and you can fly it with the iPhone but the iPad mini is so much better. I tried it and it fits perfectly. I never would have tried this if not for your video. Thanks Jake!
Nice
yes it will that's why there are slots on the remote. ..yes that's how it goes....aaaa you got it ....great videos
Cheers
If you take the little hollow rectangular bit out that normally holds the cable, you can slot the ipad in equally both sides and it'll be much better.
Cheers
Jake, that plastic slider that hold the cable pops out too, then you can fit the corner of the iPad in more. Page 7 of the manual says the cable slider must be replaced if using a USB Type C connector.
I've owned or test flown every one of DJI's aircraft and I was amazed going from the P4 to the P4 and the huge leap in technology. But geez, the Mavic is absolutely incredible and just crazy how so much technology is in the small form factor. It's easily understandable why the Mavic is the most popular and ordered drone in the world :)
Cheers and yes it does
Jake you can push out the little plastic with out any problem so your Ipad mini will fit perfect in both arms. Just tried it.
thanks!
Thank you! I was thinking in buying an Ipad support, but this is much more better.
perfect
I was going to make a cheap mount However this idea works great. Thanks 👍🏻
Cheers
Carefully push out the lead holder on the left side and you will get it to fit better..
yep in the past 4 years since this video was posted I figured that out lol
Perfect!! I usually use my 8+ but this is an ideal solution for the odd time I want more screen or would like to use my phone at the same time. Thanks!!
perfect
Thanks Jake! I didn't realize I could fit my iPad mini by just removing its case!
yes its great
Thanks for this, makes me want to get the Mavic even more now !!!
nice
It's absolute pants flying it like this! Pgytech Tablet holder is the solution. Fantastic to fly with.
I agree but sometimes people don't want the extra stuff so this is an option
You can remove the small slider on the left and side of the grips! It is supposed to be replaced if you have android or something, so no destruction is needed
Cheers
Best solution
Cheers
Thanks what a great solution for those of us you use the mini ipad, try it with regular goggles:)
Thanks
Hello; I have a Nexus 7, which is similar in size to the Ipad mini. I removed the square plastic piece on the left lower side on the controller. It pops out fairly easily. This allows my tablet to fit in equally on both sides. It is a tight fit also, but as you say, the rubber grips hold it very well.
Cheers
@jakesloan that little square thing that holds the lighting cable in actually pops out so you can have the corner of the left side of the ipad mini go in there
yeah
Love it. Love it
Thanks
Nice video, thumbs up from us and cheers from sunny IGY Simpson Bay Marina, Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing love it.
Awesome
Useful thanks ! I'm thinking about buying an iPad Mini for that. Still happy with this setup ?
iPad Mini 4 ordered !
Cheers and yes
Jake That is Brilliant mate thanks , as I haven't a smart phone , plus the fact the mini I pad is cheaper than I phone 7 s !!! I hope
Thanks
Looks good I will try this
Cheers
Great tip - thanks Jake.
Cheers
That little square piece is designed to pop in and out depending on what you use
yes it does
I would like to see DJI make a adaptor for the 12.9 iPad Pro so the adaptor fits to the existing control to allow you to use the iPad 12.9 pro
Jake Sloan If someone made one DJI would do it as well ! as other people making aftermarket products would be eating at there profits just look at how desperate they are copying and pasting videos on UA-cam !
Cheers
Hi Jake. Have you had any signal loss issues using the Ipad2? I just got one and used it with my Mavic Air for the first time. Horrible signal loss even at 400ft with no obstructions. I will try it with the Pro later today. I'm hoping occusync will be better.
That is exactly what I found this morning. When I had the native IOS screen recorder running, I lost signal right away. Turned it off, and no problems. Same results with the Mavic Pro. I might run some benchmarks to test out the CPU performance. Thanks!
Not really
@@JakeSloan Dude. This was 2 years ago!
you can pop that little black plastic rectangle out when you're not using it. mine falls out all the time.
Yep
Thanks for the info, that's what I'm going to use too.
Cheers
You can take the cable holder out...
yes you can
Hey Jake, a great ruse! Thank you very much!
Cheers
😊
how much stress is on the joints of the fold out parts when pushing in the mini? how robust do they seem
Not much
Can you make a video flying the Mavic with the Ipad installed the way just showed?... it seems like it's going to be a bit uncomfortable specially trying not to eventually brake or get that cable disconnected of the Ipod... Dji should've add a neck strap hook to that controller to help Eltham the Ipad weight...
You should be able to brake (pause button).
Jake Sloan Thanks
yep
thanks a lot for this video my man
I have an iphone 4 and and iPad mini and want to purchase a mavic pro but don't have extra cash for another phone
you just solved my problem and it's black friday
aw yiss
Thanks
Thanks! This works fine as well for the Nexus 7 Tablet.
Good to know
does it feel comfortable? Since I'm looking for a solution for goggles (don't care to fly by screen), I'm thinking a smaller solution would be more comfortable than a mini/shield
Cheers
friend, the iPad mini 2 should be 4g or could it be the model that has only Wi-Fi?
Huderson Santos it can be the WiFi only model! Cellular connection is not required
Jake Sloan tks!!!!
i watched this and went out and bought a 2nd hand ipad mini off a guy on facebook. Turns out 'this app is not compatible with your device.'
I'm guessing that the mavic is not compatible with ipad minis, but rather ipad minis 2 and 4s? Might want to clarify that in your title before someone else goes out and buys an ipad mini...
Jake Sloan all good buddy, just sold it to another lady. I just used my Samsung s7 for about an hour and not a single hitch. So I'm happy!
NICE
Thanks for the info !!!!
Cheers
Did you manage to find a down-angled or right-angled lightning-to-USB cord? Ideally it would be down-angled and about 6" long, but I haven't found such a beast yet.
That looks perfect - thanks!
Yep
Apple iPad mini 1. Generation Wi-Fi 16GB, WLAN, 20,1 cm (7,9 Zoll)It plays a role whether it is the first second third or fourth generation.
It does play a roll - the first gen has too little power, you can't install the DJI Go app on it.
Cheers
You can unclip this small plastic frame which is supposed to hold cable and then you probably can fit your ipad mini all the way in so it will be parallel with the controller? ;) I don't have ipad mini so I can't try it but I know that this small plastic frame is easy to remove and set back if needed.
yep
Do you need an iPad Mini with cell service or will it work with the wi-if model?
no just wifi works
Is ur iPad a cellular one ? If not how do u use ur maps and gps for home position etc ?
no
Does the mini have hdmi out? I'm needing a solution for goggles.... I'm debating a Nvidia Shield. Also considering a smaller android phone with HDMI out: Sony xperia z2a
no it doesnt
Excellent stuff. I find my iphone6 too small. Ive struggled to find measurements of the ipad mini 4 online so can I ask if this would work with the mini 4? Is the mini1 and mini4 the same size? I dont have an ipad so of course Id buy the lastest addition. thanks in advance.
Cheers
Hi jake. Do you think it is possible to use a smartphone with 8,65mm thickness ? (5.5 inches screen size). It is 0.15mm more than preconised by DJI but maybe it works ?
Jake Sloan ok thank you very much for tour answer. Do you think it is possible to sand down a little bit the controller ? It is some rubber, not ?
I think so
Great thank you Buddy
Cheers
Great, you know you can push out that little plasticy thing and get read of it
thanks
Please when you place the order ? I did 9/29 and still waiting and no words from DJI ,Great ,great product but horrible customer service in my experience .
Cheers
Hi. This was helpful. I have one question: While placing the iPad mini didn´t feel like you were forcing open the control? Or will it fit kind of easy?
Thanks, and it´s quiet good news. Best to you
Cheers
Could you demo this while flying? I also have an iPad mini and would like to use it.
You can see it on other videos
It is thesame size as Ipad mini 4 ?
yes
Jack, can you let me know what lightning cable you found with the angled connector for the ipad mini? thanks
In the description
why leave the lighting holder mini piece there on the left arm, just take it out and youre symetric :)
I don't know ll
Mine came with the iPhone cable already installed with a sliding plastic template in there, blocking where I would put the corner of the iPad Mini . . . Did you have that? How did you remove it ? I don't want to break it, in case I want to use it with an iPhone.
Thanks!
Nevermind :D
I see there's little hex screws
Nevermind again . . . hex screws didn't do anything. Just needed to twist the cable/template a little bit to get it out. iPad Mini fist pretty good!
NICE
just got mine, coming from phantom and inspire1, i find the way the mavics controllers is holding the pad/phone is really not good, one of your hand is going to touch the cable and it makes you hold the controller awkwardly...
nice
Does IPAD mini HAve cellular GPS???
nope
Hi mate wondering if you can tell me does the I pad need a sim card to fly the drone and does it have problems with the dji app like Android, 😊
no SIM card or cell connection needed. IOS definitely doesn't deal with the same problems that Android does
@@JakeSloan thank you Jake 😊
Is that an iPad mini 2? How was it working with dji spark? Any lag or freeze using with this tablet? Or any problems at all?
works great
is it a Mini 1 or 2 or 3 etc? is it a wifi only one or a cellular enabled one?
thanks much....
mini 2
Thank you for the video, Jake.
The iPad Mini is exactly 8" wide.
Do you think I could still fit a 8.38 wide tab in there?
Thanks
Thanks Jake
Cheres
Hi Jake, i have a question i just bought a ipad mini 2, fits perfect but i do have a lot of lag in my videos... also exports very small pictures from the remote comparing to my android phone.. do you have any tips?, thank you in advance
Strange I don't have lag issues
Hi Jake ! I'm using a Mavic Air but I assume this is similar.
Is there any quality difference between the connection made from iPad mini 2 to the bottom middle large usb connector and the usb connector from the left of the remote controler ?
Thanks Jake for reply (and doing that so crazy fast).
I think I will buy this one : www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0721MMMJS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3H1NYRJV6BL8D&psc=1
Note that it has been very easy to remove softly the little back part from the left arm (and easy to put it back on the cable to not loose it)
Can't share the picture due to UA-cam limitation :(
I guess this will be easier to deal with the iPad to put in the arms :)
Very similar and no difference
Do you have any latency issues with the iPad mini 2? I have mini 2 and notice it has some latency issues with regular apps. I'm hesitant about putting this mini into play. Did you wipe it clean and do a fresh install on the mini before using it?
nope
It was an iPad MIni2 right??
yep
Will this work on an iPad mini 4 it's a bit bigger
Yes, it will work. My iPad mini 4 has a matte screen protector on it but still I can push in ( perfect fit ). I got a 90 deg angled lightning connector ( 6" long ) from here www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=11473. It is a keychain type but you can remove the casing easily and it works great.
it will
Can I do the same thing in Spark controller ?
Jake Sloan
I have tried it on Spark controller, it works as same as Mavic , great~
yes you can
@@JakeSloan thanks your After 2 years reply
Great Video.
Im an android guy myself... Hey.. we can still be friends Im sure..
Just wondering, how wide is your Apple IPad Mini? Id like to be able to use my Andriod Tablet if possible
Glad to hear we can cross the boarders .. haha.. Too bad some People in the real world cant.
So my Android Tablet is 180mm wide.. Is the Mavic Controller Maxed out as far as width goes when you use your IPad?
Thanks
Hows the battery life of the tab and temperature
Pretty good
I wonder if there is an Android tablet the size of an ipad mini? I understand for the DJI Phantom 4 the best Android tablet is the Nexus 8". Now the DJI Mavic has come out with all the features it would be the one to go with.
I also saw a similar video with Rick on Drone Valley.
Thanks for your video. If you know of an Android tablet the size of the ipad mini let me know.
Thanks....
What I am going to do is first get the DJI Mavic Pro and then go and shop around for a tablet that will fit and run. One group says the Apple iPad mini-4 will work. I would like also to see if the Asus Nexus tablet will also fit and run the DJI pilot app.
D. Hansel I think XIAOMI mi pad might fit it, since its size is same as ipad mini
Cheers
With my iPad mini 4 there's no video from the Mavic....
strange
Is iPad mini2 compatible with the mavic pro?
yes it is
I'm going to inch by with my android phone until those goggles come out and get those; baring they aren't a fortune. Pitty they have virtually zero info on release date, or pricing or availability for the goggles yet.
What goggles?
heers
Brilliant video, no one else has done it this way! Hoping that a Nvidia Shield will fit in there.....
Will do, Cheers mate
Cheers
It has any lag with the ipad mini 2?
not really
@@JakeSloan Just 2 years later 😁 but ehy, thank you
Question sir.
The ipad requires internet to get GPS? and if you dont have Wifi how do you use GPS to navigate the drone safely?? So if I use my Samsung Galaxy s4 it has 4g internet and will connect to the internet and get signal for GPS. The Ipad if you out of range of Wifi how do you get GPS??? Do you need a Cellular Ipad with service?? Thanks for any help!!
just wifi version works
Pop clip out not needed anyway.
yep
hi from argentina(maradona,messi,tango...)...Ipad mini 2 ...???
Thank you very much my friend, I am a new user of mavic pro and I still have no experience, see you soon.
Cheers
cool...but useless! iPad mini sucks in direct sunlight and is impossible to use without a sunshade.i have one!..let's see you design a sunshade that works with that setup.
ok
Looks like a great way to break an iPad mini.
Jake Sloan the reason I think that is because of Murphy's law. The plastic arms, and it looks like you put that thing under some stress getting it in there. If it works great I've just cautious about where I secure my iPad . If it had a clip holding the bottom I would feel better.
it works lol
what i pad mini do you have?
thank you! these are great videos!
iPad mini 2
Good video but I had to fast forward all your blah blah blah 😆👍🏻
Cheers
That looks like crap, good video though. This is what I wanted to know.
I have been using my ipad just like this.. It works better then my phone. I think it looks greet and better then a big bracket to carry around or might as well take a Phantom.
alright then
Super helpful, thanks for posting! I have an iPhone 6 and was looking into possibly getting a cheaper android tablet or old 5.5" andriod phone - but it looks like I can keep using my iPad mini 2. Been using it since the Phantom 3 and it's really nice to have a designated device with a larger screen for flying.
Cheers
hey, does your I pad have to have internet service in order to use it for the mavic?
thank you so much ...
no it doesnt
Hi I have the iPad mini when I open the DJI go 4 app the on screen video feed will not come up on the screen did you have this problem can you help...
It’s all okay just found out if you put it on Airplane Mode
It works just fine...thanks for your time..
I hope you figured it out
