The girls' nightmares:
JiU - Being chased

That layering on Dami's voice is, I'm pretty sure, actually Siyeon. With very few exceptions, she and Leez provide pretty much all the backing and harmony vocals.

Been waiting for this since it was the one song that got me to find Dreamcatcher.
like I knew of DC since Chase me but it was watching their performance of You and I and seeing Dami's magic stick that really got me into stanning them but it was seeing their live performance of Bang Bang Bang that made me become a Somnie
In some interpretations, Jiu closing the gate was her act of self-sacrifice, knowing her members are corrupted and she decides to keep them from the world and to face the nightmare head on. You will encounter several scenes with spinning objects - tops, clocks, etc. These would symbolize a premonition of being trapped in an endless cycle (in this case, trapped in the nightmare). JiU has the nightmare ability of foresight which is shown in instances where she would see the future version of herself. And Dami, the nightmare ability of Time Reversal. The rest of the girls' abilities were unfortunately not revealed (at least on-screen).
There are many takes on this and there's no definite answer and it just adds to the overall beauty that DC already is. :)
While Dreamcatcher are nightmares who haunt mortals, keep in mind that this is also a curse. Because they are cursed, their nightmares also affect them. The Spider Queen is now going after Dreamcatcher herself after the nightmare hunter failed to contain them. The Spider Queen managed to trap Yoohyeon in the Dream World. The others attempted to free her, but failed to do so.
In What, you get to see where Yoohyeon is stuck with her nightmare as the others search for a way to rescue her.

Even though the girls represent nightmares, the group is Dreamcatcher. In Native American culture the weaving of a dream catcher is meant to emulate a spider's web. Depending on the culture, it was given to them by a Great Spider Spirit or a Spider Woman or something along those lines. The Spider would weave the web to protect children or, closer to the pop culture adaptation, catch the good ideas/dreams in the web and the bad would pass through the hole in the center. Or vice versa. Of course in popular culture, they're meant to catch the bad dreams of a sleeper if it is above their bed. Basically, even the spider is not a coincidence.
So with Yoohyeon angering the Spider Spirit by killing it in Fly High, they were cursed. But they escaped with the help of the Nightmare Hunter from Chase Me/Goodnight. Now that they are free, the Spider Woman returns to curse Yoohyeon because she escaped and the other girls are trying to save her from being possessed but Yoohyeon doesn't escape in time.
This is my understanding of the storyline at least. Now we move on to What!

Yoohyeon got cursed and JiU tried to saved her but failed at the end, the part where Yoohyeon tried to run away was her inside the cursed world.. That's why at the end she was seen lying alone in the cursed world.
The next title 'What' was them again trying to find Yoohyeon who now seems to be trap in another world.

That video.. The first part when Yoohyeon came out almost killed me..
Soooo. From what I could gather from the MV (the lyrics doesn't match the storyline, but matches their concepts):
They're taking pictures of people so they can give the people they have pictures of nightmares or something like that. (In Chase Me and Goodnight, we can also see pictures of the girls and in Goodnight, it looks like the Ghost Hunter used their pictures and the book to trap them I think? I just know the pictures are important somehow).
Yoohyeon was taking a picture one day of this lady but the lady turned out to be possessed by the Spider Spirit from Fly High, who clearly still has a grudge against her. She possessed Yoo and the girls tries to exorcise her when they realize that, it works, but then the girls who went to rescue Yoo (I think they're in a dream/nightmare? because there is a spinning top like in Inception, and the spinning top was upright which mean they're not in the real world) ended up being chased around by the spirit so they had to quickly flee. Unfortunately Yoo missed the portal so she's now trapped in her dreamworld/nightmare world?
I watched a vlive subbed with Dreamcatcher with their producers Leez and Ollounder and Leez said his favorite title track is You and I if I'm not mistaken.

The thing about the story concept is that it's open to interpretations. For me, how I see the nightmare arc is, during fly high when Yoohyeon burned the spider, it resulted in everyone getting cursed. Then in chase me, the nightmare hunter came to that place to investigate and get rid of them (I guess..?). Then in goodnight we see the girls trapping the nightmare hunter in another dimension (mirror) and escaping to the outside world. In you and I, seems that only Yoohyeon is still plagued by the curse (maybe coz she started it) and the other girls trying to exorcise her. At the end, we see Yoohyeon trapped in another dimension and the doorway? closed on her but at the end, she opened her eyes. My take on that is, Yoohyeon's spirit is still trapped but the one who "woke up" is actually the spirit of the spider lady.
Someone said that Jiu actually is the big boss in the end. She looks like close the gate to rescue other members instead flee by herself in fly high. But actually she cut the way out of all members.
In You and I choregraphy, Jiu start as a vampire embrace,at end she choked Yoohyeon’s neck.
Oh and the source of evil: the spider is brougt into that house by Jiu😏

The spider queen has come for revenge on Yoohyeon. Yoohyeon gets possessed so the girls use magic to release her from this possession. The story is never explained by the girls so I like to believe that this is the start of the girls battling the curse itself as otherwise, if they're soulless, there'd be no reason to save Yoohyeon. There are other things that are shown in the mv that I won't touch on because I don't want to touch on it too much and spoil the What mv.
You and I was my very first comeback as an InSomnia and Escape the Era was my very first physical K-Pop album. It has a special place in my heart and I will always count it among my top 3 favorite Title tracks.
Also, an explanation of the story of this MV:
Years after escaping the Nightmare Hunter in Good Night, the girls set up a home for themselves where they try to live a normal life (with the occasional Nighmare by Siyeon etc) and set up a photo studio to make ends meet in the Human world.
Unfortunately for Yoohyeon (their photographer), the Spider Queen who cursed them in Fly High catches up with them and takes Yoohyeon's soul. The girls (Jiu, mostly) try to do rituals to save Yoohyeon from the alternate dimension the Spider Queen takes her soul to, but fails, ultimately causing Jiu's guilt and the subsequent breakup of the nightmares. This leads into What, which takes place in more modern times.

I always thought of the lyrics of this song as a story between them and the listeners, as a song of comfort, that they will always be there for them, running away from dark nightmares.
But for Mv, it could be between the six girls and YooHyeon, because she was trapped in the spider queen's nightmare, saying she will never be alone and that they will always be behind to save her.
No matter what you say but the most interesting and confusing concept is always Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher is amazing and so underrated. Another great and underrated group is A.C.E, It's a boy group. They have 5 members. "Undercover" and "Favorite Boys" are really good songs.

It is assumed that the girls lost their soul but the only trapped was Yoohyeon (she received the worst punishment for being the one who burns the spider) in the video the girls try to rescue her, but they cannot, and in order to be with her they end up leaving the most important that they had left, their life, the next one would be What, where they look in their nightmares or something like that

Here’s my theory about the storyline of Dreamcatcher:
🕷️ 🕸️The story starts in fly high where they are all normal girls, but one day jiu finds a spider in the garden and captures it. But yoohyeon is cruel to the spider and burns it with a magnifying glass. Now they start to see nightmares. As it was the story of their past, the album is name 'prequel'.
🕸️Next is you and i. Here the girls have started their lives after they complete studying. They open a photography business. One day spider Queen (the old lady in the mv) comes to their studio as a guest and casts curse on yoohyeon. The other members (especially jiu) all try their best to save yoohyeon from the curse. But the door closes and yoohyeon along with the other members gets trapped in the spider's world. Thus the album is named 'escape the era'.
🕸️Next comes chase me. The girls have now become nightmares and have no emotions. A ghost hunter tries to trap them but the girls haunt him in his dreams. He still isn't able to trap them. Dami finds the spell book. Since the girls have become nightmares, the album is named 'nightmare'.
🕸️The last mv in the series is goodnight. In goodnight, the ghost hunter traps sua and gahyeon. In order to save them, siyeon and yoohyeon distract the ghost hunter while the other members, using Dami's spell book save sua and gahyeon. Finally the girls manage to trap the ghost hunter in the mirror. Thus the album is named 'fall asleep in the mirror'. These four mvs (chase me, goodnight, fly high, you and i) r the most related with each other.
🕷️In what (the album 'alone in the city') portrays the life of a nightmare but in a rather modern way.
🕷️Piri marks the end of the nightmare series. The girls are now starting to overcome their fears. Thus the album is named' the end of nightmare'. [They also have a Japanese mv (breaking out {which I'm not that sure.......but i guess is supposed to close the nightmare series}).
🕷️Deja Vu is a collaboration with a game called 'King's raid' (thus the album, 'raid of dream'). In the story, the girls are all close friends. Jiu seems to be the Queen. She is loyal to her friends and vice versa. But one day, yoohyeon decides to betray jiu for the throne. Despite of this, jiu spares her (dropping the sword during the line "oh now holding this pain). But yoohyeon backstabs her and takes over the throne. The blue color widely used in the mv setup means 'memory'.
🕷️The album 'Dystopia: The Tree Of Language', starts a new story. It continues in 'Dystopia: Lose Myself' and has another part.

Yes, we all gathered here, being bias wrecked by them, Dreamcatcher, because Yoohyeon 🐶 burned a Prime Evil in disguised as a hapless spider just for fun. Glad she did.
The other 6 member were trying to break the curse on Yoohyeon but to no avail, leaving Yoohyeon trapped in the otherside (portal door closing). They try (W) and try (P) again until they decided to leave no one left behind (BO).

I think the portal is a dreamcatcher made by the spider queen, they cant pass through cause they're nightmares. According to the dreamcatcher lore of the Ojibwe tribe, Dreamcatchers are made by the Spider queen to protect children from nightmares, the dreamcatcher traps the nightmare and let the good dreams pass through.
The title of this EP is NIGHTMARE: Escape the Era.

Ok, I don't agree with the theory, I think You and I is before Fly High even, the protagonists in Nightmare Saga are JiU and Yoohyeon. My order of the story, for me at least, is You and I, Fly High or Piri, Chase Me, Good Night and What.
The reason of this orden is because of the technology and the outfits. I think they reincarnated in different periods of time because of those characteristics actually, and maybe Deja Vu is connected too, but I cannot confirm that

well that's one interpretation of the story line. my interpretation is a bit different and involves you and I directly following fly high. why? because they have not been cursed and sent into the nightmare alt-verse yet seen in chase me. it's by trying to save yoohyeon they all get cursed themselves. I'll stop here because an essay could be written about all the details dreamcatcher puts into the story - you literally need to freeze frame to catch it all.
what's more important are the lyrics. to fully understand dreamcatcher, you need to disconnect the lyrics from the mvs. sometimes there are correlations but mostly dreamcatcher sings about 'dreams'. when you see a pronoun in their lyrics, you can replace it with dreams, desires, happiness, paradise, etc. if you keep this in mind, you will see most of their songs are about 'chasing' their dreams but having to change, even turn to the 'dark' side often represented by mirrors in their mvs, to achieve their dreams of becoming successful singers in their case but of course it can apply to anyone else with a different life long dream. this is most evident in siyeon's self written solo 'paradise'. so in a sense, dreamcatcher's songs are telling a story about themselves.

Most any explanation of the storyline is just a theory. There is a basic storyline and as the girls said once, how you interpret is upto you. So feel free to read into the story as you please. There is literally no true way to read it.
