An update on the P10A4 fault with the V380 Regulating flap position control motor and J808 Regulating flap control unit in the 1.4tsi CAVD CAVE CAVG engines. Due to viewers having questions about this issue in my last video, i felt i needed a more in depth explaination of the issue and showing where the unit is and how to replace it.
Fault code logged was 004260 intake air regulating flap
P10A4-000 mechanical malfunction -MIL ON
This looks like a throttle body but it is actually there to control the amount of air drawn through the supercharger, and how much is allowed to bypass straight into the turbo. When these units fail like this, you will get symptoms such as a check engine light, but most importantly you'll notice a lack of power above 3000rpm, or overtaking on the freeway/ motorway. As you can see in the video, the flap unit is very random in it's operation due to this internal failure, and all I'm doing is turning the ignition on and off. Towards the end of the video you can see the unit do a full cycle. I tested the wiring and found no issues, replaced the Intake air regulating flap and adapted it with VCDS. Cleared DTCs and no issues with power or faults returned.

Thanks for this! Was a big help. I have a 1.4 Golf TSI with the BMY engine. My car wouldn't rev past 3000 rpms. My error code was P10A0 and I replaced the air regulating module as per this video, problem fixed! One point, be very careful undoing the Torx bolts that hold the air intakes, very easy to drop them inside the engine, use a magnetic bit driver if possible. I think this job can be done in 1-2 hours by the average DIYer.

I had the same P10A0 issue on my Tiguan wouldn’t go past 3000rpm stuck in limp mode and engine light on replaced this part went all away the power came back upon inspection the flap didn’t move as freely as the new one but no oil was inside as some forums stated.

got issue with this few months ago- but found a way of preheating the engine and "forcing" it to eventually work using VCDS and output testing :)
But eventually got sick of it and bought new part- this video made it child's play to change- enormous help! thank !!!!
if you have a problem like this, don't change it right away. all I did was make a small hole and I sprayed break cleaner and there was too much oil and it was too black. I did it 10 times until it was clear what came out, then I used a hair blower to dry the inside of the hole and then I applied heat resistant glue paste to the hole. The flap now works and I have had no problems. it is so expensive here in germany it costs 700 euros.

I bought the car from a dealership in the this state but it's also very intermittent(engine light disappears more than present) But I have experienced the loss of power just after 3000RPM (total loss of power) I think that i'll the error code read just to be extra sure that this might be my problem. Thank you for the nice informative video. When i accelerate on to the highway it stutters in the 5th/6th en sometimes 7th gear. I think it is the throttle body. This video helps me to replace it thankyou!
Have you checked codes in VCDS? Might be worth checking misfire counters too.
Yea.. Don't guess... Cost you far too much. I would check the charge valve on the turbo cos they fall apart. There is a modified version available now from Pierberg

Finally, answers for my questions! I have one VW GOLF 1.4 TSI, 1k1 engine and at 3000 rpm i have no power at all, engine light lights up. Two years ago i changed the throtle body and the problem persisted. When i turn on the car it smells a lot of petrol and with the OBD tool i foun issue P10A4 and issue P2279. When i run the car i can ear a whissle, like loosing pressure from somewhere. I need to thank you a LOT because now i now where to dig in. Many thanks, once again, from Portugal. Can you tell me, if you know, what is the VW part number that i should to find out?

not having same issue but i thought it was the same, i got error code P2015 and it says something along the lines of "intake manifold runner position sensor/switch circuit range/performance bank 1a" im guessing now that it can be the intake manifold sensor next to the supercharger and i hope thats the problem because that is easier to fix than the other 3 sensors.

Hi. I have a Seat ibiza 1.4 TSi 6j cupra, BocaNegrA version with 180hp. Original. I m doing the replacement of that throttle. But I also have to replace the other one behind . Exactly behind of that black plastic throttle, theres another metal throttle.
So How can I differentiate the alignment from the plastic throttle to the metal throttle with VCDS and vagcom??

@@deanpowell3341 yes, in my case I changed the flap but the problem was still there. so I changed the part number 03C103175 and the air pressure sensor after the flap, recalibrated the flap and problem solved.

Hi I’ve had my air regulator replaced came back with fault then guy said was full of oil. He replaced again and now I’m getting same fault. So with out checking he’s saying motor on way out but car doesn’t blow smoke plus I only on 100’000kms. Is it possible he given me another faulty air regulator???

Would standard packs make the engine a bit rough at idle. Not bad but little sputter here and there???
Possibly, but so could things like carbon clogged inlet ports, or dirty injectors.
My car gave me a P10A0 code it’s electrical but there is nothing wrong with the harness itself , any suggestions??
Have you checked to see if it's full of oil?
@@FourRingsAuto I also have P10A0, I have drilled the inlet regulating flap and cleaned with brake cleaner. It was not oily, but the brake cleaner came out black to start with. I tested the operation with obdeleven and the flap open and closed continuously, until I stopped the test. The mil only comes on occasionally, I am going to check the wiring to the ecu, do you have any other suggestions ? For example could an air leak cause this fault ? John

I tried benchmark coil packs and one caught fire.
Are the R8 longer than the standard ones and how do you know what which wires to change around in the plugin connectors (female).

R8 and 2.0tsi coils are longer. You would need to know the way each is wired with a wiring diagram and then change the pins over. It's something i'm considering doing a video on. I also have some Bentley Continental W12 coil packs that look similar in size to the 1.4tsi ones that I'd like to try also.

всем привет хочу поделится своей радость наконец-то моя борьба с моим автомобилем закончилась целый год боролся я победил в 2015 году купил vw jetta 1.4 tsi 150 сил катался три года все было отлично пока не загорелся чек обороты не поднимались больше 3000 ( а должны в положении коробки Р до 4000) при резком нажатии педали газа скорость не поднималась выше 40км или 60 км поехал к знакомому диагносту результат ошибка (Р10А4 будь она не ладно я эту ошибку на всю жизнь запомнил) ошибка выскачила на пробеге около 50000км диагност предложил почистить дроссельную заслонку на впуске процедура точно такая же как рассказано выше процедура обошлась 2000-2500 т.р. собрали заслонку машина поехала как раньше на пробеге 58000км опять та же история та же ошибка (Р10А4 сука сколько она мне крови Выпила) принял решение заменить заслонка обошлась 15000т.р. поменял сам руки растут с того места подумал все но хрен там на пробеге 85000км как вы догадались Р10А4 мразь первая мысль продать нахрен машину и больше с вагом не связываться но здравый смысл взял верх дело оказалось ЧТО ВИНОВАТ( Клапан регулирование давление наддува)

But they said this was the malfunction they have seen.

Michael Ryan I am not 100% sure but the same error code.
When I asked another dealer to check my car, he said misfiring is happening and needs to change #3 plug and coil.

hi i have same issues but my car is 1.4 golf mk7 tsi i dont see this unit on the car or has it been moved same same issues as you described on all other videos i checked throttle body, pedal sensors car goes to limp mode as soon as it reaches operating temperature before that its all fine

I have this same issue haven't diagnosed it yet but it's intermittent would it require a new flap?
Best thing would be to read the codes. If the P10A4 fault is there, then it's likely you need to replace the flap. Of course, I'd recommend checking the wiring is ok. If the issue is no power below 3000rpm, then you may have an issue with the supercharger clutch on the water pump.

@@2trilltochill remove the flap and turn on the ignition. If it doesn't move properly it's likely that it needs replacement.
Best solution: remove and derivate de crancase ventilation to stop vapor oil in to admission air.
Hi guys. Hope everyone is well. I'm having an issue with my Polo gti Cav 2014 cthe. It has a low idle. Start up 1000rpm then after 30 seconds or soo 700rpm. Slight engine vibration due to lack of rpm. Also a stutter when giving it gas. Any ideas? I changed the battery and sparl plugs. Thanks in advance.
My scirocco with the same engine also idles at 700 is that not normal for these?

The ignition is on. The motor is duty cycle controlled. That's the sound of the motor on low duty cycle in its park position.
Can you do the settings with vsds lite?
I haven't used the lite version, only the full.
What coil packs do you use?
They are Okada Projects plasma direct coil packs. They are quite expensive though. They claim theu can output up to 4x the amount but not sure if it's proven or just marketing. I personally would put either 2.0T or R8 coil packs into it if it were my money doing it. These were in it when I bought the car (APR Stage 2) and I haven't had anything bad to say about them, just wouldn't pay the price over readily available parts from the VAG parts bin. To fit the 2.0 or r8 coils, the wiring plugs need a couple of the pins moving in the plug too.

@@fionnan2811happy the car is running a lot more power and the standard coil packs are weak. You can also upgrade to 2.0tsi coil packs or r8 coils, and just have to change the pins on the wiring plugs around.
Hi got the part and changed it out not to difficult job to do. just one question I there was an oil residue in the vale not a lot but you can feel there is oil. what does it mean?
The oil is from the breather system. The intake manifold usually has oil in it too. Try taking the intercooler hoses off to see if you can drain any oil off from there as it's the lowest point. Does your car burn oil? These engines were known to have issues of using too much oil.
@@FourRingsAutoAuto no not a lot of oil there is no smoke. it does use oil but not more than 500ml to 5000km.

Do you not find that the turbo induction tends to drag oil through the intake system. I find this on most petrol and diesel turbos. Never a problem unless excessive obviously.

P10a0 may be a wiring issue. It should be diagnosed correctly. The wiring needs to be checked when doing output test of the intake flap.

Not sure what you mean. If you have a genuine vcds cable you should be able to do this.
