yeah the fiancé with his ex/friend in the wedding party is so far in the wrong. wanting the ex in the wedding party is weird and questionable, but it’s really the insistence and prioritizing the ex over his future wife that makes him wrong, like OP said in the update. it sounds like the fiancé and the ex really are friends, and their families are friends, so it makes sense that she would be AT the wedding, but IN the wedding is a such a reach and the fact that OP has a problem with it should be all that needs to be said. i don’t think it’s impossible for an ex to be in the wedding party *ever*, but it would have to be such a drastic change from the time when they dated in some way that there is no doubt that their relationship is over, and this relationship definitely does not qualify. the fact that this man is arguing with his fiancée about this… prioritize the woman you want to be with and be honest about it
I have exs of opposite sex I stayed friends with. I have no problem with guys I date doing the same or having them in a wedding party. Who cares? I view it as, if people are going to cheat they're going to cheat. Me stressing and trying to prevent it isn't going to stop it from happening.
It’s personal preference! There’s no right or wrong way to feel about it but both feelings are valid and it’s important to have a partner that respects your boundaries. Just because you’re okay with that doesn’t mean everyone is. Everyone has different life experiences that lead to certain feelings / POVs

Edit: ok so they didnt even break up due to falling out of love, they just thought they were getting married for the wrong reasons... i think she decided to break it off with him and he figured only way to still have her is if he lives in the friend zone
