I was brought up on pop records as a child on the radio and the record player always on. I have a fondness for the late 1950's early 1960's pop music there was so much choice.
THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG IS ONE OF THE BEST FROM GRAIG DOUGLAS. FANTASTIC THIS VIDEO IN THE SHOW FROM HELEN SHAPIRO. . WHAT A HAPPY AND MUSICAL LIVE SHOW FROM HELEN SHAPIRO.
I agree wholeheartedly. The sixties just kept getting better. At the time you just thought it would never end. This clip kind of typifies that transition period between the end of the fifties and just before the advent of the Beatles and everything that followed from them. The British charts in that short period was dominated by US teen idols such as Bobby Vee and British acts like Craig Douglas who specialised in covers of American hits.
Thank you Mummy for teaching me about great 60's music! I miss you everyday and yesterday was very difficult and then I find your note today asking me to look for Craig Douglas and Rainbows. I was meant to find it only now and listen to this and let it give me the comfort I need! You had great taste!
I was lucky enough to meet Helen and know her/her husband for a long time through her fan club but i never got the chance to meet Craig..which i truly regret, he seemed such a gentle soul and it showed through his singing.
words so clear and you can sing this yourself when alone in my case not a good voice ,i should have said the same of many songs of this time in our lives ,brilliant
It's a shame that we didn't get to hear so many of these songs and artists in the US (New York). Our radio stations were tightly controlled (payola) and they kept all of these great artists off the airways.
I can even remember when a chapter of the KKK threw hundreds of Beatles records on to a bonfire and set fire to them. That was in 1964 a couple of years after Craig's chart success with Rainbows.
I just watched " It's Trad, Dad" on TCM for the first time. I had never even heard of the movie, Craig Douglas, or Helen Shapiro before, and I love the music from the 50's and 60's. This has become my favorite song ever! Thanks so much for posting it here!
I've seen the movie before and like you saw it today as well. And like you was really surprised at what a beautiful song, a song new to me, that this song is. Douglas recorded quite a few songs and after hearing this one I did a little searching here and found two more that I thought I might recommend to you. One is called Our Favorite Melodies and the other is Town Crier. I think you will probably enjoy them as well. Also on youtube is another from the film, also posted by 1962Rebel, from the Brook Brothers, Double Trouble, that is also worth another listen.
1962, I saw the movie (It's Trad, Dad) that this is from several years ago. Thanks for posting this and several other great performances and songs from it.
It's not a well known one, they spelt his name wrong on the 45 and i think the record company withdrew it from sale, anyway it's a brilliant pop song, got to be my fave from Douglas by far.
@errolflynn451 This was just before the Beatles and the other beat groups stormed the charts and ushered in a new era so that the careers of some really good acts like Craig Douglas ended overnight from 1963. Even top US artists like Bobby Vee struggled and by 1964 they had all but disappeared. Craig specialised in covers of US hits such as 'Only Sixteen', 'A Hundred Pounds of Clay', 'Pretty Blue Eyes', 'When My Little Girl Is Smiling' and Our Favourite Melodies. He was very popular here.
Yes, I agree, it was a first class B side and amazing to think that one of his singles - A Hundred Pounds of Clay was banned by the BBC at the time and had to be re-recorded with modified lyrics.
Yes, I can see where you are coming from. They sang similar types of songs and both singers had that safe/feel good factor and the songs they sang were always melodic and memorable. Helen Shapiro's chart career compared to Craig Douglas was quite short-lived lasting just under two years and unfortunately she didn't get enough exposure in the US.
Craig was one of our best teen idols along with Mark wynter, eden Kane, adam faith and marty wilde Then obviously the big ones from america Bobby Vee and Rydell.
Love this song :-) Weird question perhaps, there are three girls who appear throughout the film at different stages, and appear to be backing singers in this video. The blonde girl stood behind Craig in the last part of the song when he's sat down, does anyone have any idea who she is/was?
Toby Vennard I don't know who she is,but she seems very familiar to me. Maybe she is an actress. Her mouth was out of sync though, did you notice? I will come back and comment on here if I find out who,she is.
Toby Vennard. Nothing weird at all. The three 'backing singers' caught my attention too and especially the same woman you noticed. As mentioned here by Stayshtum68 she dores look familiar. I was born in 1962, so guessing she was say 20 years old, that would put her today in her late 70s. I'd be curious to know her identity too. As for Craig Douglas himself, he was talented and sang some really great songs in the day. :)
I could make a case for the 90s being the best musical decade but i think i' better keep it to myself lol 60s were great though of course, there is good music made by someone in every decade, probably every day somewhere!
I'm only 18 and I like all the music from the 1950s, 60s 70s and 80s
Wow! Those good old days! Helen, and Craig and everybody else. There will never be another era like the Sixties again!
Esp the early 60's :)
I was brought up on pop records as a child on the radio and the record player always on. I have a fondness for the late 1950's early 1960's pop music there was so much choice.
Me as well born back then, & there was a great variety of memorable songs, I love this one alot.
Best period .!957 /63
THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG IS ONE OF THE BEST FROM GRAIG DOUGLAS. FANTASTIC THIS VIDEO IN THE SHOW FROM HELEN SHAPIRO.
. WHAT A HAPPY AND MUSICAL LIVE SHOW FROM HELEN SHAPIRO.
Such a beautiful voice, so effortless
well said, back in the days there was no need to shorten word, create new words, mispronounce words etc.
I’ve just discovered this song now I can’t stop playing it
Brilliant ! love Craig’s voice
me2

Thank you Mummy for teaching me about great 60's music! I miss you everyday and yesterday was very difficult and then I find your note today asking me to look for Craig Douglas and Rainbows. I love Craig's voice and this is my 2nd fave song from him. Our favourite melodies is my favourite melody. :-)
Excellent tune by Craig.
I was lucky enough to meet Helen and know her/her husband for a long time through her fan club but i never got the chance to meet Craig..which i truly regret, he seemed such a gentle soul and it showed through his singing.
helen and her friends would look after me as a toddler (60-62)
great voice craig you can hear every word you are singing
One of my most favorite singers.
Great song love all the 50s 60s . my daughter 18 she loves all this music .
words so clear and you can sing this yourself when alone in my case not a good voice ,i should have said the same of many songs of this time in our lives ,brilliant

Wow what a man and lovely voice to..:)
Craig covered a lot of songs, but that in a perfect way. Great talent with great voice.
Wow when. Music was great
Very nice...never heard this before...nice listening to it!
to our American friends there was good music here before the beatles arrived
ronowen39 yes, craig, mark wynter, eden kane, adam faith and marty wilde. All better than beatles in my opinion.
I think that every Canadian soldier stationed in England during WW2 was in love with Vera Lynn.
Kyle Leatherbarrow definitely
This style was more Fabian the Beatles came with a new sound
If you consider the Beatles good music. Boy bands aren't synonymous with good music
Seemingly effortless singing, but such clarity and precision.
First time I heard rainbows by Craig I loved it
Billy fury..Craig douglas....matt.monro......cliff richards.......Tom jones......engelbert.humperdinck........Elton john...........then.......Dusty springfield........Petula.clarke........Barbara Dickson......Cilla.Black......etc....etc...yeah....
A few years ago I fell in love with an Australian lady. This song seemed to be written for me.
Awesome voice magic song thank you for this song 💘. All ways 👍❤

Great singer and song, brings back many memories when I was 16, that's a long time ago now.
Great song, typical chord progression from that era. Nice !
Lisening to this song, brings back so many memories of a time gone by.
Seen him perform this on PBS,during a My Music special, he still has the voice.
Rewind the Time, please ! Let me live again those Good Old Years !

His vocal quality make it a smoother and much
more beautiful song. Thanks G for sharing and

1962, I saw the movie (It's Trad, Dad) that this is from several years ago. Thanks for posting this and several other great performances and songs from it.

good singer
Great song and video!! Too bad this wasn't played in the U.S. Craig Douglas was loaded with talent.
Love this song
British, American...the only thing thats between us is an ocean. Same thought, same love of good music.
Yes, I agree, it was a first class B side and amazing to think that one of his singles - A Hundred Pounds of Clay was banned by the BBC at the time and had to be re-recorded with modified lyrics.
This version of Rainbows is much better than the 45 released. More of a ballad than " Kiddy Pop "
Какой чарующий голос!
Love Craig douglas❤
Very good!
This clip is from the very little known film by Richard Lester "Ring A DING Rhythm" full of great bands and Trad Jazz of the 1960s
Craig was one of our best teen idols along with
Mark wynter, eden Kane, adam faith and marty wilde
Then obviously the big ones from america Bobby Vee and Rydell.
Rainbows in your tears ...
Yes, a pity I was born in 1960!
I have it as well
👍
Awesome
What a wonderful song, absolutely great decade..........Does anyone know, if this live version is available on CD?
muito bom o vídeo
I'm just crazy about the 60s. The pop music scene was never better.
Melancholy perfection
How about 'A Hundred Pounds of Clay', mmm?
nice tune but dont mind if i cry has got to be his best
Yes
Love this song :-)

The whole thing feels a little out of sync to be fair, I have a better version of the whole film where the sync is fine.
