Amazing footage of the Gabalfa Flyover / Interchange. This must footage must of been taken a year after the construction was completed. I lived right next to that flyover for 15 years, so it's amazing to see the old footage. Tell you what else is incredibile. Looking at foot footage of what was before they built it, and it also being constructed. Train tracks were removed, buildings destroyed, Dual carrige ways constructed. Parks constuced. All that for a gate way in and out of Cardiff.
I lived nr flyover remember it being dug out and all built...I remember the last train that used the line from gabalfa depot yards..used to play in the old yards on the disused wagons....in 70`s shot at 1.15 still same look today, except foor bridge is now blue
I agree in part dear friend, but like it or not, motor vehicles are not just for leisure but deliver vital supplies like post, goods and more importantly food to their outlets. You, me and everyone else need all that stuff to survive, ergo we can't live without your accursed car. Regarding the flyover, you've got to hand it to the city planners of the '60s, they got their predictions right......can you imagine the Western Avenue/North Rd/ Whitchurch Rd junction without it? There would be tailbacks to the town centre with the amount of vehicles that are on the roads now and the city would come to a standstill! I'm contemptible regarding the mess that the current shower are making of our city and yearn for much of what the bastards have swept away. But life without the flyover would be a disaster for everyone, you included. #
Great to watch old film of Cardiff.
What strikes me is the lack of traffic,so much has changed.
Brilliant bit of footage here.

Hi, did you go to Cathays High from 73 until 79?
Hi I went to cathays high then.
Thank you so much for filming and sharing this. Do you have any more footage of Cardiff? Have you considered rescanning it at 4K?
I recognised most places except the Green Shield stamp place :-)
What shop was that?
Not an enforcement camera in sight.
Seems to have more space.
Gabalfa was much nicer before that bloody flyover,The Regal,The library all gone for the sake of the car.

It's hardly changed apart from the traffic.
Less population then less cars too
Not sure, it looks like a cash n carry
