G'day. Great videos. I'm a big fan. At 4min40sec do you mean umbilical artery doppler?

For IUGR being an indication of restricted growth is it early hyperplasia and late hypertrophy? Or is it early hypoplasia and late hypo-pertrophy? I am confused on why a condition of restricted growth and low birth weight is associated with increased cell proliferation and size. Can anyone clarify?

Listen a bit more carefully to the audio, the visuals are misleading. She states that in early pregnancy, growth of the fetus is primarily via cellular hyperplasia (cells dividing), whereas later in pregnancy growth of the fetus is predominantly via cellular hypertrophy (cell growth). Cell growth/hypertrophy is a more adaptable reversible process hence more amenable to restoration.
