I think you guys should first vote with the people currently working in the place to gather options for the community vote. At least this way there will be some people happy with it.
Given the fact that you have very flammable insulation, please add conduit to protect the electrical cables. You cannot predict how hot they'll get, even if it's a one-time occurrence. Prevention is always better than cure.
Not needed with that style of cabling. European electrical installations are a lot different than North American installations.
@@mrjakobtas a European Electrician I can tell you that they don‘t care too much about standards, rules and regulations… so yes, this might be pretty dangerous in casr of failure!!

Realistically their current solar setup doesn't allow them to run things which would get the cables hot enough to cause issues but you are also right that they don't really bother with regulations or safety rules so I would be careful. I hope they find an electrician to join them for the next season and helps them make things safe(r)
Another thing: isn't this kind of insulation filled with some substance to make it self-extinguishing? afaik it shouldn't burn or at least should kill the fire quickly

Nice to see the work coming along. For anyone making electric connections in walls, do not avoid using cable pipes. A fire could kill anyone inside, the plastic pipes are for safety.
Not needed. Conduit is used in areas that need protection from abrasion or impact. Not in walls. If your wiring is done correctly the wires will never get hot.
@@SixPackDan I mean, yes and no. People seem to forget where there is people there are creatures like mice. All it takes is for one to try and make a home between the walls and chew through a cable for there to be a potential huge problem.
Edit: Not to mention that the pig trailer could be moved, and that could cause the cables to rub on the wood beams. Sure it would probably take a lot of movement for the cables to get stripped just by rubbing on the beams, but it's another potential risk.
@@Marinho10 Yes, I think the problems with a lack of conduit outweigh the advantages of omitting it. A small fire sould start in the insulation, continuing for some time before it became apparent. And certainly on that first cold day, there will be small animals that will want to come inside, if they haven't moved in already.
mice are a huge problem. As well as lightning strike, power surge, people screwing things to the wall (especially in a commune type of arrangement).... sooo many reasons to use conduit@@Marinho10
@@Marinho10 they also aren't pulling much power. their entire source is the small solar farm and batteries, so they will only be running stuff like a few LED lamps and laptop chargers. these wires will never get hot.
What cheery, bright colors on that trailer house! I'm sorry many of you folks at the camp don't like it. It reminds me of funky Mexican buildings. Some day I'll have buildings that I can paint all different colors. The best I've done so far was when I lived in an old Victorian building in Somerville, Massachusetts (next to Boston), I painted the columns on the porch several different colors like a "painted lady". Sadly, not long after, the landlord hired a company to repaint the house, and they painted over all my delicate decorative colors. But now I've got my own land, and hope to get a lot of different buildings on it at some point, and you bet I'm going to make it super colorful!
Cambridge and Somerville have too many people who think they have good taste. I agree, however, whatever you did it can't be any worse than vinyl siding.

I really like the colors of the tiny house, a unique piece of art in the middle of all the greenery. Sometimes you need to standout. It reminds of the colourful bunch of people who want to make the world a better place. Really really nice ❤

I would buy a roll of kitchen towel textile, sew new kitchen towels if the old ones are worn and use the old ones as workshop rags.
One or two holes, repair, but so many of those towels required at least 15 minutes of repair. I realise the volunteers aren't being paid but could the work hours be better spent elsewhere?
Or just buy new towels. If someone really loves to make towels and sew that's one thing. Otherwise it's a waste of time and energy.
As a farmer, I never wear any such flashy colors, because if i do, I attract all the insects. I tried once for fun, had to change after 15 min.. impossible to work.. I guess you guys will figure it out in the summer when you will keep the windows and doors closed or protected.
It would be wise to consult with an electrician in Portugal before closing up the walls. Having all electricity going through one cable to the panel is a lot of watts for just one cable. The cables will get very hot and possibly burn the plastic and insulation material. Usually there are several circuits per room so every wire only carries a maximum of 10-15 amps AC. If you are using DC, the problem is even worse.
The wiring is a fire hazard. Part of the reason you put electric cables in (fire retardant or metal) tubes is to prevent electric fires from spreading. Surrounding uncovered cables with recycled fabric is the diametric opposite of running it through conduit so far as fire safety is concerned.
Different countries > different safety standards.
Maybe the cables themselves are safer than the ones you know? Or its simply not required for buildings of a certain size. 🤷♀️
In germany we usually don't use metal tubes too (or at least I didn't notice them in all the buildingsites I visited until now).

Insulation is non-combustible/ fire rated. No need to place in conduit.
Kitchen towels - cut them into a pattern and quilt them together. If the towels are 100 percent cotton, the leftover bits can be used as insulation or composted.
Mending using the Sashiko method is a beautiful alternative which highlights the mend rather than covering it up.
Congrats on the new solar. It'll make a huge difference.

As an electrician this was hard to watch. Never risk fire for some plastic pipes.
I always use tubes.
First you can repair or modify.
Second ads an extra insulation layer, that normaly is made of hard to burn plastic.
Cleaning rag solution:
Everyone gets rid of Tshirts. They are cotton and very absorbent when washed and dried with no fabric softener. One tshirt has at least 2 good sized cleaning rags in it. No seams no graphics. Remember no fabric softener! I have 2 mottos that we share. Recycle, repurpose, reuse and

This is a good idea! Also separating a few beat up rags from proper "kitchen towels" which you want to keep decently nice, and don't want to get greasy or dirt-filled.
I really hope the wiring fire hazard never catches fire or becomes a problem, that'd be terrible to see, especially with all the work they've put into these projects and trying to fire prepare the land
they wont be pulling enough amperage through those circuits to heat the wires up. their power is all from the small solar farm, so they use a few lamps, laptops, and that's about it.
You can use a drying rack (made by precious plastic!!!) for cutlery so your drying towels dont break in the first place
Just use an old can from vegetables and drill some holes in the bottom

For old rags that are heavily damaged I usually cut or tear them and use them in 'dirty' applications such as rags for the garage, staining wood or hand towel when doing dirty jobs.

Have you considered water turbines that you can use during the winter when the water is flowing through the canals. The turbines can be portable so you can store them during the dry months. You could use one to charge the ecoflow batteries or run multiple turbines in series to run more devices. It will help when the Sun is not fulfilling your needs.
I love the colors! It makes it feel bright and happy. I use colorful totes to container garden in my backyard. It brings in the pollinators and makes me feel happy even on a gloomy day. Love it! Keep up the amazing job you are all doing. I love your videos.
For the Cow-Trailer:
Get black paint (or make some using charcoal and lindseed oil) and partially scratch away afterwards while still wet, like the wax crayon scratch technique for kids.

I liked that the vote ended up in favor of the pig trailer, I thought it was a very interesting choice and I truly enjoyed watching you all build it up to this :D But the colour scheme that won is truly horrendous. It hurts my brain to look at it. All blue would have been so much better!
But alas, those are the dangers of giving away the choice to the people that don't have to live there :P

The first thing I thought of was the Partridge Family bus from back in the 70s! 😍
I heavily recommend that they take some UV resistant weatherproof rated silicone sealant around those colorful panels. Or seepage (especially during storm winds) will get in and the untreated wood beneath will mold and rot....
The black wrap under the panels and battens is the waterproof layer, these panels are just a rain shield, you want the space behind to be vented so it can dry
You could paint it white to reduce heat from the sun 😇
For repairing smaller holes in towels (especially if you don't want to use any electricity) you could try darning. Since the towels are woven I think a woven stitch would work well. I darn holes in sweaters and socks with either a woven pattern or a knit pattern all the time.
You could also try reinforcing existing patches or weak spots with a running stitch - similar to how sashiko is done. I use this on denim jeans to repair holes or add patches to areas that are wearing thin from friction.

Fabric used to go through downcycling. New fabric would first be made into table cloths or bedsheets or clothing. Then they'd get down cycled into towels, napkins, or quilts. Then kitchen rags or menstrual rags/diapering. And final stop may be rag rugs, stuffing for pillows/beds. If 100% cotton or linen you could use it as a biodegradable weed barrier in the garden or compost it. Maybe you can find a sustainable mill and purchase fabric in a bolt. Would take less time than the repair job shown here.

Kitchen towels - mend the holes as you have done but then sew two towels back to back with the patches in the middle so that they are more protected from fraying or tearing and the whole cloth is made stronger.

Great color scheme! I think it should be a reminder to never let internet choose on these kind of things. I think it should be embraced and transformed into a meme and an inside joke for all of project kamp and us. Still i hope this won't be a regular thing because i think stuff should blend in the environment.

You might want to look at the visible mending movement for tips and techniques for hand meaning. Additionally you might also want to consider traditional techniques of recycling textiles when they got past being easily mended.

It's not quite Piet Mondrian - but it's that direction - he had some good insights into abstraction. You are all very practical and applied people - which is fabulous. Adding this splash of mixed bright colour to the Kamp, is just the sort of thing you need, drawing you slightly outside your comfort zones.

@@jmilr Ha ha, I hope so -- didn't look like it, though, by his reaction. I really like the trailer's colours when light shines upon it -- It looks like a beautiful piece of art amongst dull, dark and old (vibe) natural colours.
Never let the Internet choose for you. :D Patrons or not - they're not there, so they don't have to live with any choice they make on your behalf.
If you want to repair the towels without a sewing machine, there are a few ways:
If you stick with cut-out patches, you can still sew them on by hand. It takes longer, but uses no electricity. You can even pull a few strings out from the to-be-cut towel to use as sewing thread.
If you don't have any material to do patches with, you can still use any cotton or linen thread/yarn and weave a patch. Search for sock mending weaving on youtube, and follow the instructions. No matter the size of the hole, the method will be the same. Thats how i learned it! If you grow skilled enough, you can even replicate the color scheme of the towel, because those are typically woven themselves.

I just love the range of projects, from clearing land, building, mending, electrical, plumbing. All important and all so well done.
those are pretty small sections of HPL panelling so it might be fine, but I'd really recommend you pre-drill and use dome head screws, not countersunk. That allows for the expansion of the panel due to temperature and humidity changes (HPL containing wood fiber, it often warps a little with atmospheric humidity changes).

So..choosing to ignore the fact they use a petrol combustion engine pickup truck? Film on Asian made electronics, buy hardware, nails, tools and more from the developed (polluting) world.
'sustainability' here is an absolute myth - yes they get some electricity from the sun, but that's about it - the rest is just off the shelf shit bought from the same polluting companies anyone else would buy from..
Oh also half the team seems to fly in and out, chopping and changing every couple months..the irony of these eco warriors is that they think they're doing good for the planet when they are probably doing worse for it than average people in developed western countries..
It's like watching the Amish except way way worse.. and completely in denial about the substance of their mission..
The colors remind me very much of 1970's American television. Partridge Family, Brady Bunch, The Dating Game, and Hollywood Squares. All of those make me smile...
Honestly i enjoy the look. Whimsy and creativity is often lost in our modern cookie cutter design sense. Look at the bland suburbs in the US or how all modern cars basically look alike. The trailer house is a sum of everything that went into its creation. It’s unique, a sum of it’s parts, and interesting just like human beings. All design should try and achieve this. I think we’d care more about things we use if they were less like background noise.
I really liked the last videos and how there was a constant project (the pigtrailer) and something else. It feels as if we are more in the project with you (if that makes sense).

Btw in germany its not allowed to drill the sockets like this in the wall... because in case of failure there is a noninsulated part (screw) sticking out of the socket at the back.

For repairing textile SASHIKO or BURO is perfect! you also use a patch and then handstitch all over the patch and a little more so it stays more solid. Easiest way to go is - - - (: such an interesting update once more! Keep going!❤
As far as the dish towels go, try layering two together then sewing them together. They will be thicker and stronger.
