I have an all red 4500 same year with the same Sync front sus forks with gaitors, I also am using road tires continental, it's an 8 speed and I run out of gear on flat surface with the wind behind me or on gradients
this bike like new second hand is available at 215 i found one in the garbage chain cassette and crank rusted but i got mt mongoose xr250 stolen last week and i have no job no money so i put air on (it it holds for about 3 days) and scrapped the rust of the suspension fork i fixed the breaks and gears some wont go to the 7 or 1st on the cassette but whatever is working but i notice why was in the trash, theres a crack on the frame lower rear tube near the hub of the wheel is opening but not because of me it was like that and is really thick aluminum so is not going to break anytime soon i guess the owner took it for a downhill my question is how can i fix it? can i do it myself? should i try to close the opening? or just refill it? welded? patch it? or just leave it put some cable ties and krazy glue and black electric tape to hide it? thanks for any answer

I think it was designed for high-end mountain climbing that's why their gear ratios are so low

I bought mine in 2003 and it was a little over $500 at the time. Not sure if they still make the Trek 4100
I paid $10 for mine. It's in pristine condition! :)
