0:23 will need to arrive early for surgery
0:29 pre-op area
bring something to do
monitors placed to check vital signs
possible "drink" to reduce anxiety
1:07 heading back to the OR
separation - "day care drop off"
don't make a big deal of the separation
1:40 into the OR
most likely anesthesia induced using a mask
if needed, IV and other tubes usually placed after child is asleep
1:58 heading to the recovery unit (PACU)
RN is in charge
emergence delirium - expect an "angry drunk"
stay calm and try to soothe your child (likely nothing will register with them until they "sober up")
2:58 time duration in PACU depends on how quickly your child wakes up
Thanks doc . Can you give a list of questions that every parents should ask to the doctor before adenoid, ear tube etc surgery
Wait a minute -- they can wait until you're asleep to put in the IV??? I recently had polyp removal surgery and the IV was the most painful part of the entire process, it was even very painful when I was waking up.
In many routine pediatric cases, yes. But not in every situation - nature of the surgery, anatomy and physiology of a specific patient, etc…
Usually not a great idea in adults from a safety perspective for a variety of reasons.
