Wikipedia backup... but no Solar or generators to run the power for the zombie apocalypse.
I know! I have an ATS and a pad. I just need to install the generator.
I'm telling mom!
The 8-Bit Guy curious how far apart are you guys, have tried installing a Ubiquiti Air Fiber link between your homes?
We're about 25 miles as the bird flies.
@@TheGeekPub depending on the topography of the land it is feasible to install a 1GB or 5GB air fibre link between yours and David homes
8bit guy... I never realized the fact you two sound alike either.... God damn... I found you both years apart and just now after being subbed for a few years I find out your related! Lol
When I first clicked the video, I thought the 8bit guy was speaking.
Adam Matthiesen I can’t unhear that he sounds exactly like 8bit guy now😂
@@sufyspeed you sir are most graciously welcome. Lol. It really didn't help he mentioned it during the video... And I've been watch 8bit guy for years. I love all the old retro consoles. I grew up around a snes and n64
Odd they never recommend each other’s channels in their videos.
@EVANCOOL Not a question of need more of a question of promotion. Why not promote? I stand by my comment. It's odd they don't promote one another.
I didn't know that your brother was the 8-bit guy. thats awesome
He does sound like him.
Totally
Its like realising the Volkswagen logo is a V and W
@@REXXSEVEN I think 8-bit-guy is narrating the videos
Impressive network you’ve got there!
Thanks
Agreed👍
Basically, this is just a data center in the household...
Wikipedia backup is mind-blowing to me.
It's smaller than a 4K movie. Might surprise you how easy it is to setup.
@@TheGeekPub did you have a demand for all of that, though, our did you do that mostly b/c you obviously like managing home networks?
@@TheGeekPub Do you have a write up somewhere that explains how you did this? Very interesting!
@@TheGeekPub Any docs on how to set it up? Does it rsync every now and then to keep it up to date?
@@TheGeekPub details please
2:38 You: * name-drop of brother's channel *
Me: * subscribed *
Great video sir!! I found your channel like two years ago when I was remodeling my home and now since everything is complete and I’ve had a few months to breathe and I don’t want to start on the automation and wouldn’t you know you come out with a up-to-date video!! Great ideas!! Also I think you did a wonderful job back then and even now and I don’t really understand why people always have to put their two cents in just be happy with what someone is trying to show you that’s it!!! Thank you sir!!
your network and your brothers network are at completely different scales damn
Damn, i've been subscribed for a while, and it's just now that i found out that you and David are brothers! Everything makes sense now. Impressive setup btw!
I can see the the Murray Bros. resurrecting digital society with C-64's and Apple-II's after the zombie apocalypse. What a technology tag-team. Great Job! Love both your home networks!
the geek pub I swear at your house is the main headquarters for all this geek pub
I think you need more network stuff
You’re so right!!
And a “couple of slabs”!
@@hernancoronel some of those too
So many similarities to my home network it was spooky, nice touch with the old computers in the background, I have a ZX spectrum in my office to remind me where I started
Dude just really casually dropped that 8Bit Guy is his brother... 😂 Love both of y'alls content and it's just funny I never made that connection
You have a ton of gear! Love it. Thanks for the update. Cool to see all those fiber connections in a home setup.
Cool to see, yes. However, he is using that in very short runs within his closet which is kinda waste of money and waste of that tiny bit of performance compared to a DAC cable. But yes, it looks cooler this way =)
Love the videos and would love to have a home setup like you in the future (looks like I have a lot of studying to do past my Net+ lol).
Keep up the good work and I'll continue watching!!!
Never put two and two together, but now that you stated it, I can't believe I didn't notice similarities between you and 8-Bit. Instant sub once you mentioned he's your brother!
Nice network! I like the attitude toward some of the goofy questions!
Great video, Mike! Be Safe Out There!
I subbed because of this video, you seem a proper gentleman and your content is awesome.... I love your home IT infrastructure! thanks for sharing.
I loved the old network video and this new one makes me very happy! Watching your old video really got me into networking and computers!
That's awesome! Thanks for letting me know!
Wow! You have a great setup there! Nicely done, sir! 👍👍
Dude, by FAR the best home network video I've seen on UA-cam in a long time, thank you for posting. Subscription is earned. Checking out your brother next!
University Professor: A power surge has fried ALL of our computers, and the computer shop is closed. Where or who could EVER have ALL the computers the campus needs on such short notice?
Random student: That's easy, just buy out TheGeekPub.
That's an awesome setup you've got there!
Very impressive setup! I definitely think i’ll be moving to a UniFi type setup with the Access Points, switch and cloudkey. And those Axis camera seem great! I’ve been trying to figure out security options, but its all new to me.
Thanks for your information.
Your house is a frigging data center dude! Thank you for the great video and keep up the great content!
Awesome video! Thank you for all your hard work! Coming from David's channel. Definitely subbed.
Nice video. The right amount of tech info and some hilarious situations.
Oh boy, that is a MASSIVELY cool enterprise-grade setup for a home network!
And to think I was so happy with my little home network supported by a couple of linux SBCs and another couple of cheap WAPs... But at least I have a networking rack too 😅
DUDE! i heard NILL after the super-micro story! thank you for the update!!!
I have been watching The 8-Bit Guy for years now and can now follow you, to be honest, your set up is what i aspire to have (wife permitting of course), will definitely need to catch up on your videos :D
Glad to see you made it to 100k subscribers! Always entertaining and educational videos.
Thank you very much!
"Just got fed up with Apple" - Tell your brother that next, haha!
I have to admit, when you mentioned you were the 8bit guy's brother that made me hit the subscribe button! :)
Nice dude, Your "old" tour was one of the motivators for me to upgrade my network. I chose Unifi as well, LOVE IT. Cable cut and plex'd up as well. It's always a work in progress. I don't have the redundancy that you have though. Kudos.
That's awesome!
First time I've come across your channel - loved the tour....and the hat :)
Welcome aboard!
Love this video. Great personality.! I’m just starting my networking career this home setup is my goal .
I have some IRL friends who have some nice setups but this kicks the crap out of all of them. Impressed.
Wait, you are The 8-bit Guy's brother!? I never knew that! Cool setup, love these videos! Stay safe and healthy!
Ha ha I love your hat! Keep up the good work that set up looks awesome!
Very cool! I'm fascinated by your merger of Apple with other technologies. Most people I've interacted with are either on the firm "Pro-Apple" or "Anti-Apple" bandwagon (with myself being on the latter). It's almost refreshing to see someone who sees the good and the bad and is OK going either way :)
Great video and great network, congrats!
Nice setup, I also nabbed an XG-16. But I only use it for my storage network. I have Dell access switches and a Cisco 3750X stacked core. Love the AC-pro WAPS. Agree with you 110% they are the best for home use. Thank you for introducing me to Observium. Subbed!
Glad to see they got the pool finished from the first video.
Awesome setup man. I definitely need to check out that Supermicro box youre using for pfSense.
Haha! I've done closer to what 8-Bit Guy has, and I commented on your older vid, not knowing he was your brother!!That's too funny! Your gear here is similar to what I have in my set up! Nice work.
i wish more people would do network tours i love these so much
Why?
I’ve been network engineer since 1995 and a CCIE since 2002. This network is beyond overkill. Impressive hardware for how you’re using it, but 100% unnecessary. I can’t imagine how much noise is generated and the heat. Thanks for showing us though.
The noise is the only thing, but luckily the walls are spray foamed.
There are others of us as mad as him.

ua-cam.com/video/oDSquXQQs9c/v-deo.html
Dude right? Netengi here too. Way overkill for no reason.
That power bill tho.
Agree Completely. 10Gb on the Firewall and 1Gb Internet? Even if you are running traffic between internal firewalled VLANs. Its a great video and I'm sure its fun to build as a hobby. I think its important for people watching you can buy smaller versions of all of this hardware and get the same result.
@@winteljedi2628 I think I mentioned in the video I am using pfSense as a 10G router for my VLANs. ;-)
my ISP's ONT was installed inside my house, varies between ISPs, cool video!
Wow love your setup.
Excellent content, love your videos.
You should do a follow up video detailing some do the configuration, I’m specifically interested in how you have your ESXI server configured and how you configured your router and switches
Love the "Tin-Foil Hat" prop. Excellent video, very informative also.
Content creator & video editor friends of mine are all jumping back onto the Final Cut bandwagon, they are all loving the stability, performance, and ease of use - even more so now when it comes to render performance on their shiny new M1 MacMinis. I personally haven't used Final Cut since like FPCv7 or something like that back in the Leopard & Snow Leopard days...
Keen to know more about the heat extraction fan you're using - I have one in my server room - an in-line one I got from Bunnings (leading / major home hardware supplies in Australia) and it does lower the temps by between 5-10c on a standard 20c day. My server room is also much smaller than yours, and also quite packed with a full height rack (top two thirds populated)... Great vid!
Great video. Great Explanation. Loved it.
I am about to move into my first house and I am checking out people's setups so I can prepare to build my own while taking as many things I like from the masses creativity. I have been using a server rack for my network management in my apartment, and also to house a ghetto-rig server made from donated old gaming PC parts (circa i7 3rd generation, overclocked). Thank you for the update, as I watched your first video and did have some of these questions. Admittedly, my server isn't virtualized in any way, and it is actually just running Win10 Pro and runs loads of processes for server applications, like Plex, Bitbucket, Teamcity, Octopus Deploy, and hosting ASP.NET web apps when I want to try things out. I have docker installed but haven't really learned how to use it yet...
All that is to say, thank you for your videos as they have given me some knowledge and ideas. I am totally going to start VMs at some point, and there is no doubt I will be backing up Wikipedia from now on!
Can you please make a youtube video going over all of your home automation? I would love to see how everything ties together through homeseer! Great videos!
So we all realize that this guy and 8-bit are brothers but both channels also uploaded a home network update within a similar time frame. coincidence? I think not!!
Can't wait to get a Geek Pub foil hat in the merch store
I loved it and learned a lot thanks sir!!!!!!!
Very impressive! I'd expect nothing less :)
I would never guess you and the 8 bit guy are brothers! I am following both since 2017 and never thought of it! lol
Very nice setup man.
"VPN connection to my brother's house, the 8bit guy"~ awesome!
cool. I've been a fan of the 8-bit guy for a long time and only learned recently about your channel as his brother. very interesting video. I'm with you on the whole Final Cut Pro thing. I have PCs but I always need a Mac too because I just find Final Cut Pro X so much more intuitive than any other video software I've tried on the PC.
This video just happen to be in my “suggested videos”, love the setup ✊🏾 Until you said so @2:42, I thought that I was listening to The 8-Bit Guy.
It’s really cool it’s more than we have in many company here in Africa/Mozambique
Very nice work!
Excellent monitoring software choice! ;)
thoroughly enjoyed
I really was freaking out watching this thinking you sounded like The 8-Bit Guy. Few minutes in, that makes more sense lol
I'd love to see a video on your home security system and how you tied it into your network!
When you started talking i was like why does his voice sound so familiar. Then you said your brother is the 8 bit guy and then it clicked
I can not believe you have the entire wikipedia, mindblown
New subscriber. Love the aluminum hat Q & A at the end. I did hear you say 8-bit guy is your brother? Thanks for posting.
Ready for the 2024 update video!
Nice network, bro!
After watching the 8-bit guy home network tour I must say I feel a hint of competition going on 😆
Want you to come set up my home network!! Great job!
Skynet Dude..... lol sweet setup!
Did you Terminator is one of my Favorite franchises??
Loved the tour. Thanks very much. I would love to hear more about your PFSense box, but in particular setting up rules, etc. Seems like you have a good balance of secure, but functional. This is hard to find on the internet.
Thanks for the update! Could you please find the time to make a separate video where you go into detail about your exhaust system? - Thank you!
that cable mgmt and vertical orientation blows my mind😅 but love the split for secure net and public net, have the same setup
Man I love good networking videos
Good video sir !
Q&A was awesome lol
Thank you so much for the great video. Would mind doing one on your media setup and how are able to watch live tv from anywhere in the world. I tried it and failed dismally.
man... u are crazy... love it !
LOVE THIS!! Also, how much for your homemade tinfoil hat???
Nice, wish I could do half of the stuff you have on your network.
You are so great!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi mate,
Very informative and provided some good ideas. Could you provide a ball park on how much the whole system set u back?
Subbed immediately when you brought out the tinfoil hat. Legend.
Dude best shirt ever, I got same one, at warehouse one
When I started the video I was like damn is this 8bit guy. Didn’t realize you where his brother until you said it but you sound alike
Get rid of that door ‘lock’ it can be opened with a strong magnet 🧲
This is the lock picking lawyer
i love the ending
Amazing!!!
