Hi Emma,I just lost my 17 year old cat Penny this afternoon to cancer,so I needed some cheering up.Sorry, but my heart is broken and watching you and Cleo cheers me up.
Sending love. Losing a beloved cat is so hard for any loving pet parent. Thank you for giving her the long, undoubtedly happy life the little sweetheart deserved ❤
Thanks for another great video! This genus was new to me so it was fun to learn more. Happy to watch whatever planty content you'd like to make! With that said, I'd kill for a cactus and succulent cabinet tour/update. Succulents are my fav 🤗 and I've really been enjoying watching you get into them too
Thanks for this video, this by far was my hardest plant that I bought this year. Almost as soon as I received it the leaves of the Wallichi shriveled up and I couldn't figure out whether it was a pest problem (which I couldn't identify) disease or watering issues and I was struggling for the information. So this has been priceless.
My S. wallichii was gorgeous, but it went through a bout of spider mites--UGH--and is currently in recovery. I cut a lot of the leaves off, and I see new ones coming, so fingers crossed, it'll be reestablished to its former glory soon. The pronunciation of the first syllable, BTW, is /skiss/. It comes from the same root as schism and schizophrenia, meaning "split". So, since "glottis" refers to the throat and tongue, schismatoglottis means "cleaved tongue" or "split tongue".
I need to water mine every 2 days, it's very big & puts out new leaves constantly! I have 30 different houseplants, no other plant I have needs to be watered that often haha. It lives in 38-45% humidity & 23c at the moment, thanks to my heating here in Sweden. I am considering a humidifier, mostly for my Lemon Lime Maranta, as I'm guessing that it & my Alocasia, Pink Princess & Wallichii will benefit from some humidity, as will my skin! So far they've all been doing great, but I'm guessing they'll eventually have issues from the low humidity.
Emma your Wallichii is gorgeous!!! I'm tempted to get one for myself hehe. Now for an etymology lesson in the Greek language (my backgound is Greek and I taught it in high schools for a while 😉 'Scisma' means 'split' and 'glottis' comes from the Greek word for 'tongue'. So I would call it 'Split Tongue' rather than 'Drop Tongue' I guess it's referring to the line down the centre of the leaves.... Anyhoo, thanks for the info and hope the 'Borneo' produces many many more of those fabulous silver leaves. And is it just me or do you think the leaves resemble that of an Aglaonema?? Thanks for sharing your tips with us 👌🏼👏🏼And say hi to Cleo 😻
Thank you for this video. Just rescued a small baby one from my local nursery and couldn't find many care tips for this plant online, and I really want it to survive. Fairly new to being a plant mom but so far they have been surviving 😂.
Mines likes to be about a metre from a south facing window. Like you said this is a thirsty plant and I keep it in high traffic place so I can keep an eye. This plant also hates a draught of any kind
Yes! Mine needs FREQUENT water, it's up-there with the Peace Lilies in my home. Of my plants, it's also the one that shows guttation the most often and dramatically.
Hi Emma! Loved this video. After seeing this plant in the background of many of your videos I became obsessed and had to get one of my own 😍 Hoping it does as well as yours has!
Thanks for all your videos but I have been looking for the name of this plant and well…. Found it 💛 just switched my 2 to pon bc they’re not doing good and figured they would love the access to the “all you can drink bar”…. lol❣️
Mine died back after forgetting to water it (it was tucked behind bigger plants) I chopped it all off and it rebounded as well…lucky me Such a beautiful plant
Its such a beautiful plant, i admire it every day 😅the pests not so much.. i have no found thrips and two different types of spidermites.. personally the spidermites freak me out more because thrips are dead with provanto. I am now religiously treating with alcohol spray on a daily basis. 😂 i feel like me versus the pests is like captain ahab and the whale .. dealing with 100 plants in a small space can be a challenge 😂😂😂
my silver borneo doesn't want to live normally, since I got is, it's not happy, it gave me flowers but then decided to die, I dont know how to revive it. The roots are ok but the leaves are droopy. maybe I should move it just to water
Schismatoglottis fasciata is mislabeled as wallichi everywhere in horticulture, impressive feat bringing that smaller silver one back from nothing. I keep all of mine permanently in water trays for over 2 years now but I live in the tropics.
I've just come home with one which the lady in the garden centre reduced down to £1.99 for me as it is going to need alot of rehab, i like a challenge 😂
Pebble tray will not work, no matter how many Times we are tried to tell. Please do you on research on this subject and safe your money by not buying large plates and pebbels. Buy the way, it doesnt look nice either

Sorry to hear about your fur baby 💔
I only discovered this plant today. Caught it on clearance at my local blue store. Lowe's, not Wal-Mart. 😅 I'm so glad I found this video.
Just rescued one today looking for information abt it and there you are with answering all my questions 😊❤

I'm sure it'll bounce back quickly! and thanks for the pronunciation help! Makes sense why it's called drop tongue now

It's so thirsty huh!! and yeah it sounds like you have plenty of plants that would benefit from a humidifier (and yourself ofc)!
Yay, a new video! About a plant I know nothing about, no less. I'm going to enjoy this.

yeah that sounds like a perfect spot for it, close enough to get bright light but far enough that it doesn't get too much direct
A beautiful plant! Very happy in your care!

Really pretty, will keep an eye out! Also, I LOVE your nails 😍
aww thanks! 🥰
Beautiful plant. Wonder where it got the name Drop Tongue.
someone just mentioned in a comment that schismatoglottis means 'split tongue' so probably from the latin translation! how cool!
Mine died back after forgetting to water it (it was tucked behind bigger plants) I chopped it all off and it rebounded as well…lucky me Such a beautiful plant
ooh good to hear that it did well being chopped back. They defo need to go in a high traffic zone in order to be remembered haha
I have this plant, its absolutely one of my faves but i am still fighting the thrips and redspider mites it brought into my room. 😂
oh no that's no good! hopefully you can get that sorted quickly! good luck!

How can you pronounce Schismatoglottis correctly but can't pronounce a simple word like Borneo?
