Good vid! 👏 Rab Ascent 900 crew checking in 💪 Some really solid advice here. Refining cold weather camping gear through trial and error is seriously satisfying. Like you said - once you're at camp, you're there for the night, so if you're not sure...take a bit more warm stuff than you think you need! Nice work. James.
Merino wool base layers still work to keep you protected even when wet. They are anti bacterial as well. Decathalon merino is about as budget as they are get - really decent. The old adage of ‘be bold, start cold’ is so true.
Nice one Liam, I saw you hauling that big bag up on the last winter camp video and had to do a double take seeing you with such a large pack then I realised you had to fit the hilleberg somewhere 😂
Really enjoyed your video Liam. Been watching your channel from the early days and they just keep getting better and better. Knowledgeable and great presenting style! Keep it up buddy. Loved that you kept the ice slip in - we’ve all been there. All the best. Gav from Hiking for Health.
Spot on advice there. One thing I've learnt is not to lie in the bag trying to convince myself i dont need to pee yet. You don't need to waste energy keeping your pee warm, just get up and get it done, preferably using a pee bottle and VERY careful aiming. ATB, Roger
In winter I layer my sleeping system, 3 season down bag with a synthetic quilt over the top, good down to around -10 still air temperature then can add down trs etc if needed., works for me and is very modular if you get to warm, also helps with any condensation you might get on your down bag.
I use a therma rest vespa 20 sleeping bag/quilt,sea to summit etherlight XT Insulated mat, and I've use the lanshan 2 in winter but yea not the greatest in winter! The breeze it brings 🥶🥶
Nice one pal, as you say it's not all about the big names and big prices, plenty of budget gear out there. I always take a snood or neck tube, great for keeping your neck warm...obviously, but can be used as a balaclava or a hat, great bit of kit, also I take a nalgene bottle, fill it with boiling water and pop it in your sleeping bag, hot water bottle right there and next morning your waters not frozen to make a brew..win win pal 😊
Thank you good bloke outdoors going to sit down and have a cuppa coffee and check out your coats and jackets. We love you here in Northern California you’re like Elvis or Michael Jackson you’re superstar. We love your accent.
Top tips great presentation. My sleep system: RAB 600 Alpine with a thermal liner. Sleep matt Big Agnus and zfold matt. Did use Thermorest but always roll of it.
Where had you been when you dashed back up that hill to your camera?! 🤣 Love it mate, sound advice and covers alot of budgets 😊 Hand warmers are brilliant 😁 Adge
Great video again and very well explained mate 👍 not an expert ?, it sounds like you know your subject and understand it well, just like an expert 👍 keep safe and God bless you Liam 💪🙏🙏
Top bloke with top tips, and I love that you have some budget end gear, you keep it real Liam 👌🏻👍🏻👌🏻 yes we all like high end stuff, but you keep it real mate...and good save on not going arse over tit on the ❄ ice 😉
Great Video as usual Liam, Good advice. I alwawys take more than i need. Like you say, better to have it and not need it than the other way around. Strangely my legs never seem to get that cold so i don't have down pants, just tend to wear leggings under my trousers and have a mega thick pairt of socks that i wear in the tent. I have considered the down booties. Would you reccomend the Naturehike ones? As for the hot hands, hand warmers, I swear by them, the buggers are usually still warm the following morning. 👍
I use a softie 9 with fleece liner and thermorest xlite which has always been comfortable enough (never in temps below -8c though). Think I may copy your idea with coupling with a zlite type foam mate....just in case and all that
Great stuff mate, and would be interested in knowing if you use or take micro spikes with you. I enjoy watching your videos. I myself live in the center of London and use videos like yours for escaping the hustle and bustle of living in London. Many thanks for your hard work brother
Good evening Liam, firstly, thank you for your continued excellent content you release. Its always great to watch your content with quality reviews and your production is on point. I've signed up to do the three peaks challenge in May and I need a decent pair of hiking boots. I've seen you were wearing boots in previous videos by Columbia which you said were bang on. Could you recommend the specific model of boot I should consider and where would be the best place to order them. Keep up the excellent work fella 👊👍
Superb vid Liam, really useful for folk that want to winter wild camp and want to be well prepared. My alcohol stoves, ahh I just love em! I’ve definitely found taking a few more snacks is key as I woke up hungry at 2am on my snow camp. Ps glad you kept the skating in 😂 I use a Sierra designs cloud 20 zipper less down bag on a Rab ionosphere mat R value 4.8 on a foil windscreen cover £1.49 from home Bargains 😂I’ve been taking my Alpkit bivvy bag on recent camps incase my sleep system doesn’t feel warm enough past -3C 🙏🏻 can’t rate the Naturehike down pants highly enough. Size 14 woman, XL perfect for me too 🤪BW, Sarah
Great video Liam, considering you don't class yourself as an expert, your advice is spot on 👍🏻 people can also get away with a lighter sleeping bag if they wear down jacket, pants and booties. My old faithful 4 season bag is the Rab ascent 700, but I've just bought a sierra designs cloud 20 3 season bag that I'll pair with down clothing, watch this space for a review once I've tested it 👍🏻 also, I couldn't stop chuckling through your video, it reminded me of Paul Whitehouse in the fast show..."being in the great outdoors...it's great innit" 🤣
Cheers Good Bloke .... im off to Scotland wild camping - get away for Xmas- its been mad trying to pick a sleeping bag. Seems the Acent 900 is the one. Thanks for all the advice Good Bloke.
Man, you're infinitely more prepared than your Dad and I used to be on some of our 'expeditions'. "Winging it" was our game. Really loving the vids BTW.
Evening fella 👍. Always good to get tips from a wide range of different people. Thanks for sharing and see you on your next adventure ✌️ 🤙 🤟. Have a merry Christmas and a very happy new year buddy 🎄

Very helpful Liam. This advice will help winter and early cold spring campers.
My top tip to stay warm is: Don't go out. Stay in, watch tv, eat Pringles. All winter.
Made me laugh 😂
U do know this a wild camping channel 😂
That is also how I stay warm 😊😊😊

If the conditions are right, hike in trail running shoes.
I've done the 3 Peaks (Yorkshire) a few times and boots are not really needed.
What model is your jacket ?
Closed cell mat on top of air mat, or air mat on top of closed cell mat🤔🤔🤔?
Air mat on top.
@@rokerman 👍
Excellent vid....no messin....clear and precise.
Glad you liked it!
totally agree, one of the best to the point vids I've seen. 'Mary Poppins hand bag' - haven't heard that one before . cracker!
