Excellent video and some real myth busting facts about what's needed and why we do it! Thanks for producing and sharing
Tay, opening week, blankety blank, and I cant wait!!! Every kelt and every blank gets you one tug closer 🥃🥃

Roll on the spring looking forward to it even more after watching that! Tight lines for 2023 i hope you find your elusive springers.
It’s the best time of the year! Tight lines to you too
First class video… “I am a fully fledged addict” love it! 👍🎣
🤘
Great short video! 👏 Us spring salmon anglers are absolutely bonkers!!!
Your video editing is top class mate.
Much appreciated!
6:29 I’m on a run of no catching hee haw but I’m out on opening day like an eejit loving it 🏴🏴🏴
Yeeeehaaaaaaa
you wont win a raffle if you dont buy a ticket kev! we never give up because its always that lure of maybe next time? but once you hook one the blank days are forgotten, fingers crossed for you pal 🤞🏼
@@johngraham5996 spot on mate
Superb!!
Thanks mate
There are those that fish and then there are those that fish
Haha. Enjoyed this and your other videos. The snow reminds me of my one time chasing springers on the Dee in a complete whiteout April blizzard!
That’s the best! Love fishing in the snow 🤘
Great video, describes us perfectly, This is the first one of your videos that I have watched, I've got a bit of catching up to do and I've subscribed.
This is my 7th year with a ticket (River Findhorn Association), I average just under a fish a year. Last year I got my first springer on April 30th, a lovely 13lber with sea lice still on it, what a buzz. The low catch rate reflects how little I get out but I intend putting that right this year.
Thanks!
The findhorn association water has been on my list to visit for a while, maybe this year 🤞
Great video. So true. 😂
One day il try it, for now il look forward to your videos!
Thanks 👍
Great video, Colin. Can't wait to get out there, next month hopefully..
Good luck!
Well done! Keep it coming
Cheers
Same mate, addict. Only caught sea trout last year on the main River Tyne and North Tyne, but if you are not wetting a line, you have no chance of catching. Great video.
That’s it! And then one day you go down and get 3 and wonder why it was all so hard before! 🤣
I'm from NY and I was laughing my arse off! I'm 55 now, but when I was younger I would fish in similar conditions for winter steelhead, and for what? The prize! Hooking, and if the Good Lord happened to be looking down on you at that moment, landing a bright, fresh, chrome steelhead. . .only to return it to its home. Madness, that's what it is and that's why [we] love it. Great video!!!
I think there’s a lot in common with the spring Atlantic mindset and the winter steelhead, certainly seems to attract the same kind of people! All good fun 🤘
Great video, Colin!
Thanks pal x
Factor 50 and midgie nets...nah. Sub zero temps, lines freezing in the rings.... bring it on brother. Stroll on next Wednesday.
See you there 🥳🎉🎉🎉
how did it go steven?
@@johngraham5996 bottled it, going next week instead
Makes me feel a bit better about catching nothing so far this season (only my second season chasing salmon).
Keep the faith! Good things come to those who keep fishing
Ahahaah amazing video
Faaaaaaanks
Where else would I rather be the cold does not factor for me until I stop fishing when I'm on the river I'm just tuned Into everything can't even tell you what goes through my head
Over the last 7 years I’ve put in approximately 300hours. Lost one(smashed) two follows. I’ve got to admit it’s getting tricky to motivate when I can go trout fishing and catch 10 to 15 fish but I’ll never give up. River Camel, Cornwall.
Yeah man its a funny game!!
Try sticking abit of dynamite on the end of your line it usually does the trick 😉
It can be an unforgiving game salmon fishing stick at it you'll nail a few and that it your tuned in and turned onto it,when your bent into a good double your heart will be in your mouth on the fly
Class. You going to Helmsdale again this month? I’ll see you in the pub again if so! (The guy with the white VW Camper)
Yes mate ill be there, opening day, can't wait!
@@spate.flyfishing cool. Opening day is great fun! Especially in Glencoast! You’ll meet Paul who will stay in his waders all day; until last orders! Think I’ll only make second week though. Need to earn money for tube flies somehow.
That was hilarious
Sick video I’ve never caught a salmon I’d love to give it a go down in devon sometime with my one hand 8 wt fly rod any pointers on flies to use. Most likely going to try the river dart first
Thanks! I’ve never fished the Dart, but if I did fish it and had no idea what the locals used (always ask the locals) I’d do what I always do and put a stoats tail or a park shrimp on. Those two flies will catch fish most places. Tight lines!
Nice pal
Thanks bud!
Love it 😂
✌️
At 69 I got my earliest fish by MONTHS this year on Leap Year day- February 29th ! So now I can become 70 without fear ! Bring on Spring 2025 !!
Love this. I am still searching for my February fish, this is giving me good vibes for this season! Tight lines
epic intro!
Cheers!
Thank you for casting a light on this international scandal, which reels in its victims from all four corners of the circular globe who, once hooked, return annually to the river to hand over ever-increasing sums of money. On the Dee alone, the IMF has estimated, by dividing salmon anglers' total expenditure on travel, equipment, fishing & ghillie fees etc. by the number of salmon actually caught each year, that each fish has a cost of almost £900,000. Which is then put back in the water after the obligatory selfie. These people need help, not another fishing trip.
Did have a nice and very reasonably priced lunch at Banchory Lodge (as seen at the beginning of the video) today though.
I'm straight up convinced Guy Ritchie produced this, anyway 10/10
High praise indeed!
Lol, was thinking the same thing
As a spoiled Norwegian living 100 meters from the Gaula it's not for me but i see why some people want to spend way too much money trying to get a springer...
if you need to sharpen up your patience skills, try salmon fishing in Wales! doesn't stop me sorting through my tackle ready for the first trip still 6 weeks away.
I fish Washington Winter Steelhead, this all seems familiar
So I hear....
So true 🤣
✌️
Spring salmon fishing February March and April summer may june July back end August September and October winter November December January best owner me that on 1st may 1998 when I caught my first salmon and have never had one banked before 1st may ever since and not through lack of trying...
It's worse than that. You're paying top dollar to fish upmarket waters with the toffs. I fish for a lot less, downmarket with the riff-raff. Last time I blanked was 1965. lol Good luck with the scenery. lol
Make no mistake, we are riff raff too ✌️
@@spate.flyfishing Lol! I worked in addiction services and took them fishing. You're not going to out low of the low with me pal. Maybe I'll write a book, "Fly Fishing in Gaza and Ukraine." Or maybe "Fly Fishing for the Dodo." Anyway, tight lines, you could do a lot worse than flog a dead horse.
