I was overwhelmed with all the Bare Knuckle choices, but you just sold me on the Rebel Yells!
a lot of people really like the rebel yells. it suits a lot of applications for sure.
Dude! How did it compare to the Alnico Nailbomb? You had some experience with that one if I remember correctly?
The Nailbomb is probably my favourite pickup of all time, but I'm trying to find a pickup for a PRS I inherited, and I'm looking for something a bit more classic rock rounding, yet has similar output that I'm used to with The Nailbombs, Dirty Fingers, PRS Tremonti's etc. Would that be a good fit?
Dude… you are the ESSENTIAL BKP review guy. Hahaha
I appreciate your vids and what you do VERY much!
They’re super informative and have helped me decide on more than a few BKP sets for my various guitars. Thank you, man! Cheers. 😌
Thumbs up for the sweet Chrono Trigger posters.
Awesome as always, but dude, have you ever thought, that in your covers, you should record your awesome rectifier amp with a mic, like a shure sm57, and do a backing track with ezdrummer or superior drummer? i think that in that way, your awesome guitar tone and mesa boogie will sound beast, and we can hear the real power of that rectifier and your guitars. its just an advice mate!
No 57s god damn. They crush everything because they are a vocal Mic.
You want an accurate representation of the actual sound use a Mic omni active mic massive dynamic and tonal range.
I always record guitar cabs using an active and ribbon Mic slightly of axis.
Fantastic Tone and Playing! I'm primarily a Bassist/Chapman Stickist but have a few Guitars for Songwriting, Jamming & the occasional Rhythm Guitar Sit-In: PRS SE Modified Nick Catanese & Mark Tremonti Custom Signatures - all LP type. The Catanese's (1 all Mahogany, 1 classic Les combo of Mahogany and Back & Maple Top, Maple Neck & Ebony Fretboard have EMG 81/85s which I'd like swap from something less "Ultimate Metal" to "Hard Rock" (think earlier/harder "Def Leppard") that can do "Metal" if pushed. Listening to the Rebel Yell demos, it seems that would be a good call for my Standard Tuning Guitar.
The other "Catanese" all-Mahogany, Ebony Fretboard & 81/85s I use as my C/C# Tuned "Metal" Guitar, but would also like to replace the EMGs: do you think the "Nailbombs" would be a good call for a downtuned, more Metal tone? The Tremonti Custom Sig. I'm still not sure - I have a set of DiMarzio CrunchLab & LiquiFire not in anything, but I've also always wanted a Sustainiac-equipped Guitar.Amp Set-Up is a Line 6 Spyder IV 1x12" 75 - 🙄 I know, but am looking to move up to a Carvin V3M "Lunchbox Head" & Avatar G212 Signature 2x12" Speaker Cabinet: not half bad for a hack guitarist. 😉 Thanks for any advice you might have, and I'll trade with any Bass info you might ever need to know. 🎸
I think that Les Paul is particularly suitable for this pup, deep big voice... I have a very bright Lester where I think they might sound über-bright. It is one of those recent Hi performance models... wanna change guitars?
Great demonstration of Steve Stevens pup thanks. I’m using LP Classic as well but couldn’t find yet a better pickup than the stock 500T. I can do anything with it with a simple tweak in the amp. From your experience with different guitars and pickups how do you compare them to the 500T. I’ve noticed also you using a black LP Standard how do you compare it to the classic?
Great review! I have a gibson les paul and play in a hardcore band with a mesa dual rec. I tune 2 steps down to C standard. Would you suggest that I get the RY or NB from Bareknuckle, also, if NB, would you suggest Alnico or Ceramic? Thanks!
Hi! :D
Very helpful vid. I see you also have the Nailbomb bridge, so I have a question:
I've had a A-Bomb set on my Gibson Explorer (Mahogany Body and Neck, Rosewood Board, C Standard Tune) and even though I liked the overall tone when I played alone, when I played with the band my mix didn't cut through. Don't know how to call it, but my chugs and fast riffs just got lost in the volume of the PU, not definition at all. :/
I have now the JB set. Very close to what I wanted, I cut through the mix, but tone wise it isn't even close with what I have experienced with the BKP, especially playing with volume pot rly does nothing on the JB until you hit 3-1 it "cleans" up and not in a good way...
Anyways. My point is, having the Nailbomb in one end of the line and the JB on the other, would you say the Rebel Yell could take the best out of both and be in the middle? I really hope so!
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance!
Rock on! \,,/
personally, i think you might like the Holy Diver more. but i highly suggest going on the bare knuckle site's forum and asking them. there are a bunch of really helpful people on there that are more familiar with the full range than i am.
Already done ;)
They said the Rebel Yell would work just fine. But I have the fear it may do the squeky and ice picky tones I get out of the JB.
I considered the HD, but every forum I checked they said it may get to bassy and dark in mahogany (something I had a problem with the A-Bomb).
Anyways, I may be going for he Rebel Yell after all. ;)
Cheers and thanks for the fast reply. :D
Paul-Lawrence SM
good luck. i hope it works for you
I'm considering a set for an Edwards (ESP) Les Paul copy I've had for a few years (had a bridge nailbomb in it when I bought it, which I swapped out at the time), and have been looking at this set for it. This is the most useful demo I've seen on YT for these, as you go through a nice range of gain, rhythm and lead stuff, rather than just outright shred I've heard in other demos. Good work!
I've had other BKs, too. Got some Riff Raffs in my Epiphone Dot, which are a 60s/PAF kinda thing, ideal for that type of guitar. Hard to go wring with BK, and in my experience getting the Riff Raffs, excellent customer service from Tim when emailing for advice on what to choose.
I have Bare Knuckles in my LP classic as well! I had a hard time finding pickups I all around liked in the guitar to be honest.
I see you modified yours to look like a LP Custom -- I replaced the knobs with knobs from a LP standard, and lost the original truss rod cover so I just have a blank one too.
Looks and sounds amazing! A little less bass end with these pickups would you say?
Hey! thumbs up for very detailed look at the pickups...so how do u compare them with the GIBSON's BurstBucker Pro's that u usually see in the Standard models these days...do these articulate better in high gain tones cause the BBs aren't that clear and how r the harmonics on em?
to be honest, i've never used burst buckers. these pickups are pretty great in high gain. still very clear. i wouldnt necessarily use them for super heavy METAL but they could handle great hard rock tones and maybe some older styles of metal. pinch harmonics sound good to my ears
littleredguitars2 okay say in terms stuff like GnR (SLASH) or VAN HALEN or a bit more classic rock like LED ZEPPELINN would they have that thick fat tone to em while retaining some clarity in the rhythm compared to ur standard gibson pickups like 490R and 498T?
How many times have you smacked the pole with your guitar?!
Just once i think lol
Hi. Good video. I'm getting each time more interested in Bare knuckles Rebel Yell Pickups! How do you compare them to the HolyDivers? From what I can tell by hearing them at the website, they are somewhat similar but the HolyDiver has a bit more output and a more modern edge to it. Is that right? Do you think Holydiver in the bridge and a rebelyell in the neck would be a good choice? What about a rebelyell in the bridge in a crawler in the neck? Thanks
i would suggest going to their forum and asking on there. the users are very helpful and a lot of them know more than i do about the bare knuckle line
Thanks :)
+Marcos H. Ary
The holydivers cant be beat in my opinion - I own them. I also have the mule which I love
Hi, long time fan here, I was wondering if you have ever heard about the les paul custom lite 2013? Im currently looking to purchase one. Usually play a strat and im a eager to have something in between the two with coil-split and humbuckers. Do you think the thinner body really affects the sound in a bad way?
I just got my set of Rebel Yell pick ups a few day ago. This might be a dumb question, but how do you know which is the bridge and which is the neck? It doesn't say anywhere on the box or pickups that i can tell.
Neck wiring is usually longer
Hi, how do you find the Duncan 59 custom hybrid compare to these ??? Great vid
i've never used that pickup but you could ask the people on the bare knuckle forum or contact BK directly. either of those could help you out
littleredguitars2 sorry, I meant the vh II and the rebel yell
Got a really nice clean sound, how much did you get them for?
Good for blues or too much gain?
really nice sound there buddy
I have a nail bomb and I'm wondering if the rebel yells are different enough to get a pair?
How would you compare the NB to the RY? Different enough to own both?
nail bombs are more raw sounding. rebel yells have a bit more output and are a little smoother id say.
Thanks man, I get so overwhelmed with the different choices at BKP.
In your opinion are the RYs and NBs different enough that I should own both? Or are they pretty similar where you can EQ them to sound alike.
+anyday82 i mean, if you have another guitar worth upgrading then why not give em a shot instead of having 2 with the same pickups ya know? nail bomb is just a little more "pissed off". the rebel yell is a bit more "all around"
Hi littleredguitars2, I have a very dark les paul with gibson 57 classic pickups. Do you think i'd have more high-end and output in the bridge position with the Rebel Yell when comparing it with the stock gibson 57 classic plus?
Yeah I think the rebel yell would be a bit louder and maybe a little more high end. Not sure how much. But I definitely suggest upgrading your pots too. Gibsons typically come with 300k pots from what I've seen and going up to 500k or even bare knuckles 550k would help let more of those high frequencies come through
Sounds fucking amazing, dude! :)
keeelane agreed!
In your experience, which is more versatile, the VH2 set or these?
... IMHO ... I went through this dilemma too. If you want good split coil which sounds close to SC then VH2. VH2 is more natural sounding. Rebel is more suitable for modern fusion and stuff, split coil doesn't sound as good as VH2. Overdriven Rebel gives you slightly more power into preamp but doesn't have that raw rock sound as VH2 ...
thanks. just got me a VH2 set for my Peavey wolfgang. Sounds great!
+reg gutierrez ... you won't be disappointed. What amp do you use ...
I use an old Peavey encore 65. I just use a boss OD3 to drive it. I love the sound i'm getting with the VH2's
Dude how do u get all of this lol, where do u work
Sounds fantastic!
How many times have you hit your guitar or head on that pole? LOL.
Zero
@@littleredguitars2 That wouldn't be me!
