- In this video I will be answering the question that I get from soooo many of my students and surprisingly I haven't heard many coaches talking about the real reason behind it..
I am also sharing 2 drills that can give you a good feel for what needs to happen in order for you to keep your lead arm straight with relative ease!

This video is awesome! I’ve taken lessons and watched a ton of golf videos and no one has covered this issue with this level of explanation. You are the man, keep up the great work.
These are some of the best drills I have seen to deal with some difficult issues that a large number of golfers have.
Love that you explain why faults occur and how to fix them. Best golf lessons.
A great instructor. Very basic and thus very helpful. A head above other instructors. You get to the actual fundamental problems. Keep up the good work!
Wow, up until now I could feel my elbows bending in the back swing. This technique completely eliminated both issues and I can't believe no-one else demonstrates this - like you do. So glad to find the video.
Wow what a bloody brilliant video. I've struggled to keep straight arms for over a decade.
this guy is a treasure of a teacher
Every time I feel my swing starting to slip, I come back to your channel and watch your videos. You have a way of explaining swing techniques that are easy to understand and I can take out on the course. Thank you for the great content!
I have taken the whole winter of 23 and 24 to work on my golf swing and I am suffering with extension through impact, I can keep the arms straight just past the ball, but when I start to release I have ever so slight of a chicken wing in my left arm as a right handed player.I am going to try this drill today in the track man. My sequencing has been off for 36 years and it’s hard to retrain but this makes perfect sense many thanks.
Thanks Jonathan, you're a gem!
Thank you for clear and simple way to get the swing i always wanted but others never tell you how to get it
Your videos are simple and make sense. You have a special gift and are destined to be a top golf coach. Thank you!
Before I noticed GOLFTEC in the background, me being a coach for a living at GOLFTEC, I thought this was the most instructional and correct explanation I have seen ! Good job
These are some the best instructional videos I've seen. It clearly explains and demonstrates the why....
You are by far my favorite online coach.
Dope!
This guy is the best real teacher!😊
Wow...happy I found this video . Really explained how to keep the arms straight. I liked the easy drills too.. Thanks for the pointers.....excellent!
Thank you, this concise break down has been the most help to me as a golfer on a budget.
you're a very knowledge man ... I hope you meet with great success with your channel
I really like your word choice; you're not trying to reiterate overused terms that instructors perpetually throw at students, but really do a masterful job at anticipating follow on dilemmas.
Well done man- I'll be following your videos from here out.
Thanks Jonathan, no one explains it better than you. Your drills are amazing. Definitely the best golf channel !!!!!
Thank you Jonathon. I will take the punch and glove to the range today. You are a talented instructor.
Thank you Jonathan, good video on how to keep the arms straight. I always struggled with it. Will try out at the range.
Best instructor out there. Bar none. I absolutely love your content, explanations, and drills to feel the movements correctly. Keep up the good work, my friend.
This lesson is amazing it was the last piece of the jigsaw I needed thanks so much, it feels good. 👍🇬🇧
Everyone of your instructional videos have been very beneficial to my game. I am very happy I found you and I look forward to each new video you put out each week. I highly anyone just beginning with golf or struggling with their game they watch your videos carefully and take the time to learn them and adopt them into your routine. If you listen carefully and practice the routines, your ball striking and your game should show improvement.I have been watching for about a month and I have already seen about a five stroke improvement in my game.
Since I retired in 2019 I’ve been dedicating myself to improving my golf game. Towards that end I’ve watch hundreds of videos on UA-cam, practiced what I’ve seen and played golf without consistent improvement. Starting in march 2023 I came across your videos and they are, in my opinion, the best ones on UA-cam. You explain everything in an easy to understand manner and walk through all the steps for a good swing and also the most common errrors. The videos have helped me tremendously. Best golf teacher and golf instructor on UA-cam. Keep up the great work Jonathan.
I completely agree. JKM is addressing all of my swing issues and explains easy to do drills to change my swing. His UA-cam instructional content is the best I've seen.
Excellent explanation of what to do and what not to do and "why" & how these moves impact my swing. Thank you.
Great explanation for keeping the lead arm straight on both sides. I have struggled trying to make a complete nice backswing with the lead arm high. This really helps.
Wow this really is awesome. I am a 78 years old bloke and felt I was now inflexible. But this video helps me look and play more like a pro than a hacker. Also I have found it helps stop me swaying when keeping my lead arm straight which was my greatest fault. Thankyou so much Prof Richard Weston Rothley Park GC
Good lesson on the golf swing to achieve perfection
Like all this content, some new perspectives… and I’ve watched a lot of UA-cam golf.
Only thing I’d add was the feel of pushing down the butt of the handle with the lead hand - this cocks the wrist but also straightens the arm. The more you push down the more the arm wants to straighten
You are a brilliant teacher. Thank you.
Jonathan you are a natural sensei ( my teacher)
Seniors need some extension; this is very on-point for chest extension! Thanks for drill cue!
Jonathan, I can't thank you enough for this video. I was a 5 handicap golfer before I took up bodybuilding years ago and the size I have gained particularly across my upper body, has caused exactly what you describe here. My swing is literally half of what it should be. I have been working on my flexibility will start using these drills tomorrow to aid in getting my body to rotate correctly again.
Thank you for a simple to understand lesson.
ELBOWS IN! 👍🏻
Great advice, pretty much THROUGHOUT the swing … setup, backswing, downswing, impact, followthrough, etc.
Also, maintaining your arms structure (straight arms) is critical to maximize swing arc.
Keep up the good work, Jonathan 👏🏻
Excellent technique and excellent explanation. A great golfer doesn't mean a great teacher. You are a great teacher!
This guy is good. Like the way he thinks about the golf swing.
this is just what I was looking for for years. thank you so much!
Great explanation of basic golf movement!
Great! I learned more in 9 minutes than 9 months!
even though this is 2 years old it is exactly what i needed to see. thank you! great drills.
Such a great explanation! I finally understand what’s wrong with my left arm and how to fix it. Thank you!
JKM Yours is one of the best instruction sites I've come across. Great information in every video explained and demonstrated in easy to follow steps allowing you to recognise some of the things you aren't really too aware of but definitely need to check. Brilliant drills to practice at home while we all wait to get back on to the course again. Thanks so much and keep it up
Wow! I just happened to learn golf this past month. My coach that i often chicken wing it. Pulling my left arm early. I could’ve swear that I understood what need to happen (left arm straight after impact and thought i did extend my arm straight)
But having seen this video, it totally made sense! This explains a lot..
Will try this method, hopefully I will corrected my follow through.. thank you so much!
Excellent explanation JKM! Thank you!
Thank you Jonathan, I have this problem on the follow-thru and no instructor has even tried to address this.
You have fixed this major flaw with simple instruction and drill
very very helpful video and drill. I am hitting everything so high and notice that my lead arm breaks heavily after impact. Your video really helps!!
Jonathon, excellent tips and drills. Thank you for addressing these basic issues which have such significant impacts on the rest of the swing.
Yet again, exactly on point and clearly explained. Really good instructor and really good communicator.
you showing how to fully extend and follow through helped me out big time.
Really appreciate all your tutorials man, and grateful I found your site. 👍
Great video Jonathan, I now know how to fix my problem
This is fantastic. Super helpful and easy to understand. THANK YOU!
Fantastic video thank you for putting this up. It has truly helped me a lot.
Another fantastic video Jonathan! Thank you
Love the point about having the left arm connected up to bicep but not the rib cage! Was always confused about this!
Your explanation is so great! I watched numerous videos. Some complicated some just didn’t tell me what problems were. Yours are straightforward and simple to understand.
I love the “punch down the line” feel to get width and rotation of your chest. Great tip. Will try that at the range next time I go.
This was an excellent presentation and very informative. Just what I was looking for. Thanks.
Great explanation and great drill! Thank you Jonathan!
Thank you Jonathan! First time viewer and very helpful tips!
I can't wait to give this a try. Your videos are so helpful.
Excellent instruction, love following what you do
Excellent video and instruction! The punch drill, and the bicep drill have been a HUGE help!
Fabulous analysis. Best I’ve seen
EXCELLENT...EXCELLENT...EXCELLENT!!! Why? Because I don't need to invest in fancy equipment or gimmicks. It is something I can do ANYWHERE that I have the time. It provides an immediately measurable assessment of your swing - you don't even need to video yourself!! This addresses my personal challenges to a tee. At 68, I think my lack of R.O.M. is restrictive. In fact, I have poor posture through-out the swing. Yes...I'm not as flexible as I was but I'm not trying for my card either. Finally, it brings to light that in order to improve at golf, you need to work on these things at home and NOT at the range where we become ball-focused and keep doing things improperly...repetitively. If I can't develop critically fundamental form/posture here at home, why am I trying to hit balls anyway?!?
Great tips JKM! Thanks much for the great content.
Very well structured. Nicely done. Thank you
Thank you Jonathan for this video .
i have this problem .. and now i understand what causes it.. thx a lot
A great instructor.
This is the most understanding tutorial on golf swing in history
I have issue with the left arm bend during the follow thru. I will try this drill. It makes a lot of senses. You are a genius
The punch is a great idea! Thank you
Great video Jonathan. Very helpful.
Another great video JKM thanks 🙏
Informative material once more Jonathan I’ll work on the drills. Thanks again
Perfect just what I need I definitely fall into the lack of chest rotation with arm breakdown especially post impact
The biggest issue I think, that's not mentioned in this video, is that the left arm is bending because people aren't using it. That left arm should be pulling the club into the ball and if you're doing that, it's pretty much impossible for that left arm to bend through impact.
Thanks Jonathan for that Punch drill…that makes sense for a better rotation in the backswing which ultimately causes a better follow through the ball. Appreciate your help … love your channel … keep it up.
Ivan
This was so helpful. It felt so unintuitive and I always felt like I was fighting that arm to get depth and consistent strike point. My next time out after watching this I absolutely drilled the ball on the range.
Excellent breakdown!
Superb explanation! Thank you.
Excellent- wish I’d found you years and years ago 👍
Your Vids are great, easy drills but very efficient and helpful. Go on like this. Thanks from Germany.
Can't thank you enough for this video. Was content with the thought of my lack of rotation was age related. Nope, was just doing it all wrong. Buttons and buckle!👍
Brilliant, Jonathan! Thanks!
Great video man. Helped a lot.
So good, great drills
Super love how simple you make it 🙂👍
Excellent. Thank you - will definitely give this a go.
Fantastic explanation!
Thanks Jonathan!
Wow, for so long I’ve wondered what was wrong with my swing, when I do a decent job of keeping my arms straight and rotating. No other video demonstrated the low hands on the rotation issue until yours and it’s exactly what I do. Looking forward to hitting the range and working on my rotations to be more upward.
That was great information! thank you!!!
Excellent explanation. Thanks!
love the channel you are a fantastic teacher
Very nice and revealing explanation to a significant problem. Thank you!
JKM. This tip helped me so much today. Thank you.
