But I was wondering how you would introduce the notebooks or books inside? Is what you paste it on the cover of the notebook? Did you just bake it like it is ? I made a cover, put it on some cardboard using liquid clay, baked it and it swirled up on me. Now in order to straighten it I'd have to heat it back up. how do you keep yours from bending ? This cover you made is gorgeous !

    • @Velvetorium
      @Velvetorium  8 років тому

      I baked it on a ceramic tile. They can still bend up a little sometimes at the corners, and to fix it I either gently bend them back while the cover is still warm or I'll place something heavy on each corner before leaving it to cool to keep it flat. Hope this helps! :)

    Few questions. What is the pasta machine? Where did you buy the stamps? Also, how are you so amazing at this?

    • @Velvetorium
      @Velvetorium  8 років тому

      +Nightstar The pasta machine just rolls out the clay at an even thickness (I'm unsure of the brand of mine) and the names of the stamps are in the description, I got them all online! Ah there's always room to improve, but thank you!! :)

  • @septemberwitch
    @septemberwitch 8 років тому

    I want to try to make one of these but in a much larger size .. say at least 8x10.. any recommendations on how to get my clay that wide or what is the trick to piecing the together...also not sure what thickness on the pasta machine do you recommend for these?.. thanks!

    • @Velvetorium
      @Velvetorium  8 років тому

      +Julie Mayer I'd use the thickest level. If it's too wide for the pasta machine, you would need to cut two separate sheets and blend the seams together, but I would recommend doing this on the surface you're gonna bake on (or on a piece of wax paper you could lift straight into the oven) as it would be very difficult to move otherwise. It's doable, though! :)

    • @septemberwitch
      @septemberwitch 8 років тому

      +Velvetorium thank so much ... that's what I was thinking that I would have to do it in two separate sheets and seam them somehow... great tip about the wax paper! I will definitely give that a try and let you know how it goes.. thanks again!.. keep the great vids coming...absolutely love your work!

    Wouldn't it break? I am not familiar with this clay, sorry.
    And what could one use as a top coat to protect the design and colours?
    Would it work if you had cut out a hole in the clay for the blue ball, so it doesn't stick out and looks really embedded into the cover?
    What do you glue it on with?
    It looks fantastic but I am wondering if it could survive practical situations as well.
    Thanks!

    • @Velvetorium
      @Velvetorium  7 років тому +1

      This is polymer clay, it's plastic based and (depending on the brand) very durable. It's not super fragile like regular clay. :)
      It does well as jewellery, book covers etc. You could use a glaze to protect it (I would use a matt glaze in this case), painting on as many coats as you felt necessary. Cutting a hole for the stone would be fine as long as it's properly attached, either by wrapping clay around it or by gluing it on after. Glass often has to be glued on after anyway, as it doesn't stick to clay too well. If the clay for the cover overall is thick enough, it is glued on properly and the clay parts of the design are relatively flat, you shouldn't encounter any problems. Trial and error is a part of it, though, as with any creative medium.
      Thanks and I hope this helps! :)

    • @arcanelore3791
      @arcanelore3791 6 років тому

      Meriem Benslama - It's polymer clay, and can be found at any craft store, as well as online. Polymer clay isn't actually clay at all, but is some sort of plastic compound, I believe. It's oil-based, rather than water-based, which means it won't harden when exposed to air (WHICH IS SUCH A LIFE-SAVER), only when baked, which is done in a regular oven. There are a number of different brands, and it comes in a gazillion different colours.
