Hi Andy. Another interesting village. With lots of amenities. Love the housing estate nicked named Gordies.. I find former pit villages have a story to tell. Thou very sad the lose of life back then.. Well served by public transport . Quite a busy place. I also find the older the church more of interest Brilliant video. Thanks
My mother was born and raised in rainworth, went to school in rainworth and she always pronounced it as spelled. Both her parents did too and they owned the local shop and petrol station during the war.
at about 3 mins. If you carry on down that lane it brings you out at the fishing lake, we used to have our break at work down there with the ducks, lovely.
I worked with a nurse who worked at Harlow Wood Orthopaedic Hospital in the 70's. One night they were all warned that someone was hanging around the grounds. They thought it was Peter Sutcliffe but later found out it was the black panther just before he was caught outside the junction.
Yes very good but the large tree in the centre of the village was removed much later than 1962 I'm thinking it came down in the 90's when the road was altered I'm sure someone watching this video will know exactly when it was I know my next door neighbour will when I ask her.
My husband was born at “Southwell” , and he calls it “South-Well” not Suth’ll only the posh and 10 Bob snobs call it that, everyone else calls it Southwell
There is a genuine divide between those that say South Well and those who say Suth'll. 50/50 split. Nobody's right, or wrong. It gets its name thanks to an actual well - literally the "South Well", because Norwell is the "North Well". I've always known it as Suth'll, nothing else, and so I shall keep saying it that way.

Holy mother! Could've been you guys who caught him first then had you known. I read his bio, his list of crimes is quite reprehensible
I wasn't there I was -2 at the time😂 I worked with this nurse in theatres and she told me the story.
I was making you a little older than you actually are there then. Muchos apologies
Kirky Road houses area is called either “The Model” or “Up Python Hill”

Don't shoot the messenger. That's the date I found. Links to all research in description
It went in the late 70s or early 80s. We were told Dutch Elm disease but I think it was just in the way…

I grew up on Southwell (never Suthull) Road in Rainworth (Renuth)
