Last 24 November, spoke about how our parks were ideological spaces and how we can liberate them at the Second Philippine Parks Congress at the National Government Administrative Center at New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac.
Met again the Chairman of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority Delfin Lorenzana, his daughter National Parks Development Committee Executive Director Cecille Lorenzana-Romero, Deputy Executive Director Jezreel Apelar and finally met Nayong Pilipino Foundation Executive Director Gertie Duran- Batocabe.
After the program, we toured the charming National River Park Corridor and the New Clark City Sports Complex. We were guided by the caretakers of the complex MTD Philippines Chair and Chief Engineer Isaac ‘Bong’ David and Gil Talingdan of Philjaya Property Manegement Corporation.
The park is very good and is open to the public with some attractions like an amphitheater and some Kenneth Cobonpue interactive artworks. The swimming pook and sports complex were world class! I might have been skeptical before but this facility when I actually saw it is something we should be proud of.
I asked them about the issue of the aetas who used to live in the complex. They told me that most of those that work in the complex are actually from the community, especially the aetas. There is also a stark increase in their standard of living. This is good to hear and if that is so I do hope the plans to create other educational institutions there like a UP campus will happen, joining the National Academy of Sports which is already there.
