I think getting a nice part time job waiting tables in a cool cafe or restaurant or just somewhere nice where you can go out and get some new experiences. when you have to work you appreciate your time off so much more and you might get inspired for new video ideas 😊😊😊
I'm 30,000 in student loan debt and I can't find a job that pays enough to keep food on the table and pay off my loans. I think your pretty lucky to have such a chill situation. I'm only 21 and I feel so lost.
Apply to everything you see around , if no one is hiring still ask to be interviewed. Be positive . Something will come up . If you have a car why not trying uber ?
***** of course! I began going for a bachelor of science in psychology but I didn't do well in the science classes so I ended up switching to communication management which is basically the equivalent to human resources at my school.
TheChicandCheapBlog I have applied to everything I can, but the decent jobs don't want to hire me due to lack of experience. Well how can i get experience if no one will give me a job!! I am able to get the low paying jobs no problem, but the whole point of me going to college was to not be living paycheck to paycheck. I regret ever getting a degree when my best friend who is a college dropout is making 60,000 a year at the airport.
Ugh, me too. I can't remember the last time i slept in late :(. hope this gets better for you. sending positive vibes and also relate to your situation.
I agree, I'm in a similar situation, school and work. It's hard to not be bitter when I feel like some people could have it way worse, but everyone has their own battles. We'll get through it!
So many UA-camrs upload videos complaining about being in a UA-cam rut of sorts... But then they all say that they don't want to leave UA-cam because they don't want to have to get 'normal' jobs in which they don't have almost 100% freedom and autonomy in their career and life. At first I patiently listened to the countless videos and tried my best to understand, but at this point I'm wondering why all of these people are complaining that UA-cam makes them so unhappy, all the while acknowledging that it is the only way they can live life in a way that they won't hate. I have a feeling that it's really just a matter of not truly grasping the reality lived by 99% of the population, and what it's like having to work a 9-5 (at minimum) job. PLEASE, if you don't want to have to be a 'standard' working-class adult, start taking advantage of your situation before it is 100% too late. Otherwise, your 'UA-cam struggle' will turn into an even bigger overall struggle. The time is NOW Linds.
I thought about that, too. She doesn't want to be a standard working class adult, like most of us are, with a boss and the same routine job everyday. Then she says she loves the freedom youtube gives her in that she can do what she wants with no boss, etc, while at the same time she's in a rut with it and it's making her unhappy? I think she should think about picking somewhere to move (since LA is also making her unhappy) and then getting some kind of part time job where she can still have some time to do youtube but also meet new people and it would give her something to look forward to. Even though she thinks that regular jobs are mundane and boring, she could find one that puts some kind of structure into her life. Having too much free time can also be mentally hard on people, I should know since I only work on call. Lucky I get to see my boyfriend (who lives in a different city) on weekends. Even if she's scared to do something other than youtube, she should give it a try. She might end up changing her mind and enjoying a regular job.
Soon enough this UA-cam thing is going to be over and a lot of people like yourself are going to have their incomes stop. It's reality, you need to plan for it. Your living in a weird dream world, what other girl your age is in your situation. TAKE ADVANTAGE of it and start a business that you can promote through UA-cam. Sell things, t shirts, make up, bags etc etc. or do something with festivals since you love them so much. Don't waste the viewership you have and opportunity to create something that will out last UA-cam.
This is good advice. Having a platform like this is a gift, you could be creative and promote really cool things and products. When I feel uninspired I sit down and think about how I wanna help people in the big picture and I use already successful people as inspiration
Literally everything you're saying is me AF. I've been watching you since 2011 and it sounds so weird but I feel like we're basically the same person (I'm a year younger than you though but we graduated in the same year). You're honestly so blessed to not have a 9-5 job and have so much freedom at your age and if I were in your position, I'd definitely just drop everything and go on as many adventures as I can. I'm still at uni and I work 3-5 days a week so that I can pay to travel to music festivals over the breaks and having a goal like Tomorrowland just pushes me to keep going because I know in the end it'll be worth it. I also love travelling alone and just being alone, it's just so calming to be with your own thoughts and not worry about anything/anyone else so I totally get you. Hope you feel better after your time away in San Fran! This is probably the most random thing you'll ever read in your comments like ever (if you even see this haha) but if you ever feel like just dropping everything and taking on a huge adventure, you're welcome to crash at mine as long as you like (I live in Australia btw 😜). I promise I'm not a creep haha, I daily vlog because my whole life is just one big funk so you can make up your own mind about me if you want.. but I can just imagine how cool it would be (from your point of view anyway) to just drop everything and take on a whole new side of the world and I remember you mentioning a while ago that you and meg wanted to come to Australia. Australia is kinda a huge stretch though but I know travelling always helps me when I'm feeling what you feel right now and you've got the opportunities to go and do shit so don't waste them! And as for this channel, I've thought about doing this with my vlogs where I devote a whole video to just talk about a particular topic (thought provoking or whatever) or just whatever's on my mind so that I know someone out there will here it. I don't know if you're into that but I wouldn't mind watching them! Love you, hope you have a great day and enjoy San Fran! :)
I think the age were at (I'm about to be 21) like 18-early 20s it's so easy to get into a funk. I constantly compare myself to friends and it makes me feel bad about myself. But normally how I get out of it is spending time with myself. I distance myself from my friends and just learn all over again that I can do things alone. I work so much but on my free time I just do simple things like biking, hiking, I spoil myself and just love myself. It's pretty hard to get yourself up and actually do it but to me spending time alone really just opens your mind even more and gives you time to think about your future in a better light.
ANYWAYS! Love you! Really needed to hear all of this because sometimes when I do get in those "funks" lmao I feel alone and am like wow does anyone else feel the same. IDK but thanks for spreading your positivity and experiences with us :)
Lindsey you need to focus on the root issue. you could move anyway and still have the feelings you're having. you need to work on why you're not motivated before you do anything else.
I hate to be that person but I think tough love is what you need. get a grip and get to work. I love you and your channel but I can't help but be honest with you!
Gina Schweppe I agree to an extent; but at the same time if she can afford to travel and live other places and explore the world then she should go for it. She's going through typical early to mid 20s crisis mode right now- if she needs to run to figure it out then she should run!! A mobile job like she's got is a luxury that should be taken advantage of! She's clearly not where she wants to be, sometimes you have to do something new to re-ignite that spark of motivation, ya know?
Lindsey, why don't you do the best of both worlds, you can still do what you love, UA-cam and travel. Start doing travel videos aka travel channel? You can explore the world which makes you happy and film it which also makes you happy! Who else agrees???? I wouldn't miss watching a video! :-)
Girl, if you upload one more "I'm lost" video, I swear . . . Either you put your best foot forward with UA-cam or you choose to move on to something else. I feel like this has been a rut you've been in for SUCH a long time that it's getting hard to sympathize with you. You've gone through this before, and nothing has changed.
I relate to the funk soooo much. I've been in one since I started college last fall. I just started my sophomore year in August, and I'm so overwhelmed and unmotivated. I'm in a super difficult major (chemical engineering) on a pre-medicine track because I really wanna be a doctor, but honestly, these classes are kicking my ass to the point of where I'm questioning if this is worth it anymore. Going from a mostly A student in high school to making consistent B's and C's and the occasional D in college is starting to wear on me mentally and emotionally. I know college is hard, and I'm trying my absolute best, but it's so hard staying motivated when I'm constantly getting knocked down.
i totally feel this too! it's my freshman year in college and i'm having major second thoughts on if i should even be in college or not. we just have to push through and remember everything will work out in the end :)
Honestly I think a 9-5 job could be good for you, even just part time. Sleeping all the time and wanting to be lazy would be impossible when you have to get to work, and you would actually feel like you were accomplishing things during the day which could help get you out of your funk.
You've always inspired me to open up my life to new experiences and maybe try things I would never thought I could do. I've felt such a connection to you since I started watching you when u lived back in GA. Thank you for being you!!!! Insta: KronkNatalie
lindsey, i gotta be honest. tough love gets me out of a funk. you need to buckle down and just do it. if this is what you truly want like you say it is, you do it. you seem like you have been floundering, and its time to be tough in yourself and who you are. just get it done. you are in a job where u create your own hours, and though that is a luxury, it means you need to be tough and prove that you can separate your life and work successfully. with you you seem like you are doing either one fully or the other fully. you need to just realize that. you want your vlogs to be better? spend a day googling ways to learn final cut and downloading presets and learning how to edit. want people to watch your videos? you promote those bomb ass videos on all ur social medias like a madwoman. you want to create content that is deeper than the typical beauty guru? create videos that have a PURPOSE. THAT MATTER. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER ABOUT THE CONTENT YOU ARE CREATING AND YOUR JOB WITH HAVE A DEEPER PURPOSE TO YOU AND OTHERS. lets go, lady. you're twenty two, like me. time to saddle up, get the shit done you want to get done, and inspire the girls that you had been for years before you entered your youtube funk. you have years of knowledge and experience waiting to be shared for the young girls that watch youtube now. GO OUT THERE AND DO THE DAMN THING.
Try reaching out to like Travelocity or some other travel agency or Airbnb so you can start moving and traveling more and you could vlog it. You are so lucky to have the job you have and you need to take advantage of it because it could go away if you don't. Sorry to be harsh but it's true. You seem to not like the idea of a classic job at all, so you need to put in work other places since the world is set up for people in classic jobs. Complete some internships at companies that inspire you. Maybe try working for Clevver, they have work in LA and NYC. Start a business, try hacking it as a freelance makeup artist or a wedding videographer. Write a book or release a guided journal. You have it so good and if you want to keep it going you have to take risks. We all support you!
None of us WANT to have jobs that we go to every day but it's reality for many people and they are still happy. You will figure it all out in time just have faith
I am currently in that funk. I haven't seen my friends in forever they are all doing their own thing. Since high school we've all kinda drifted apart. In college I feel like I've only met acquaintances. It seems like everyone just wants to get it done! Everyone I hear says they don't care about meeting new people... Apparently that was high school not college... I really only hang out with my bf and I really do wanna be with him but he does not like to do things. If I could I would drive hours and hours every weekend just to go somewhere cool. But I have no one do go do things with. Sigh. Life is boring.... Travel is my happiness. I wish I could do it.
i feel the same!! all my friends are in college having awesome experiences, but i'm going to college in my hometown and i feel like i'm in a funk. i miss going on adventures with my friends, i hope you make a few really good friends (same goes for me lol) and have fun times with them :)
Sounds to me like you want to be on a constant vacation so you don't have to deal with the realities that are face you. Sometimes it's hard to face the things that scare you or disappoint you (such as comparing your friends accomplishments to yours) I think you need to stop worrying about pleasing others, and just do whatever makes you happy. Find your passion and run with it
Motivation is fleeting, inspiration is fleeting. You can't rely on those two things to get you where you need to go. What you need to have is dedication and commitment to what you want and what you're doing to get that thing you want. Have you thought about seeing a therapist, just someone you can bounce ideas off of and converse with about these things you're feeling?
When I'm in a funk, I literally just have to tell myself to GET OVER IT and keep going. Like give myself "tough love" in my head. If I have a victim mentality, I'll never get out of a funk. It helps me to start a new creative project for a client and get really busy, get out of the house constantly and get productive. I start focusing on other's needs and not my own, and that way I'm not constantly in my own head asking if I'm happy, I'm focusing on making other's lives better.
You are blessed beyond belief with the life you live, the opportunities you have. Your life is literally a dream world to me, an intangible life that likely most of us won't experience these freedoms, the opportunity to just move wherever and take long trips. I would have to save up for like 2 years probably more to do these things. And I work every single day. I love your videos and I've followed you since the original beautybaby44 era, but I think your privilege is making you blind.
Yup. As someone whose travels consist of going to another doctors appointment I can't help but roll my eyes. Like you said, she's blind to her blessings. Even something as simple as going on vacation because she needs a break from her life. Most people couldn't do that without consequences even if they could afford it. She has these amazing opportunities, she's healthy, she doesn't have financial troubles, come on. Open your eyes and appreciate how well off you are.
I think you're very lucky with what you have, I'm working a part time job trying to support myself , I can't afford college and I definitely can't afford to live by myself or go on fancy vacations when im sad. I agree that everyone has a right to feel sad or depressed but you have so much that so many people would give anything to have ... including myself ..
Hey Lindsey, I know this sounds total random but I just wanna let you know that being a subscriber for the past 5 years from the time when you were doing car vlog when you were still in high school, I have seen that you have changed a lot throughout this year (of course positively). I dun wanna tell you things that other ppl have been saying, that you are in this funk mode because you need to get an other job and stuff like that. You've grown a lot from the time u started youtube and that's something that set you on a path that it's hard to persist as you get older, especially when seeing friends around you determining/ acheiving on their career path. Just wanna remind you that we all go through these stages and as a subscriber for 5 years, you have inspire me in a lot different ways! Your audience will always be here with you. xx
This is the Lindsey I love, I think I have been watching you since I was about 13/14 and you have really shaped me and been like a big sister! I think for everyone life is just an adventure and you figure it out as you go. Thank you for always being so organic and genuine. I'll be supporting you no matter what Lindsey!
Linds, I love you and honestly have been watching you since you started youtube so I wish you the very best. But you are so lucky to have so many opportunities that no one my age has. I'm 21, working a minimum wage retail job going to school full time and I'm stuck living at home. You moved to LA and that seems to be where your career kind of stopped. You have gotten lazy. I know that sounds harsh to you but its true. You have all these opportunities that most of us never will and you are sitting around whining about it. I know you don't see it that way, but NO ONE wants to work a 9-5 job with little autonomy. Who wants that? It sounds like you've gotten a bit spoiled by the youtube life and need a bit of a wake up call. I have always loved your videos, and will continue to support you, but you need to grow up. You're stuck in high school and need to start thinking about the future and what you're doing. You have no direction at this point. You keep thinking that sit down youtube vids are dead when for the most part people are super popular making those videos, look at Loeybug! I think thats just an excuse cause you are in a rut right now. I really do wish you the best and I know your life isn't perfect by no means, but a lot of the things you are complaining about right now are things you can fix yourself.
It's easy to feel the depression you have when you aren't doing anything with your life. Moving, traveling, buying new things- aren't going to help you. You need to fix how you feel About yourself and your life first. You don't realize how easy you have it to make your own schedule and upload a video and make thousands and thousands of dollars. If you can't be motivated to do the easiest job in the world, how will you do anything else? Watching you makes me feel anxious and nervous for your future. It's time to grow up.
CG I think I have to agree... on one hand I understand her but still, I feel like she is lacking consistency in life. I recently had a few weeks free between school and my job and it felt so great at first. But after a few weeks, I realized how much it wore me out to not have routine. It's really hard to appreciate the free time when you hardly have any responsibilities.
Holy COW. I just got chills watching this video. You are literally speaking to my soul. I'm deadass reading those same two books right now. Like we are going through the same exact thing. I'm 21 and graduating early in December and I can't decide whether or not to stay in my college town or not for the next semester. I'm definitely not ready for a 9-5, but I don't want to stick around just partying and becoming demotivated. I feel kinda lost right now and I just wish I could figure out the next step in life to take. All I want to do is travel and go to music festivals and meet people lol. To help lately I've been journaling, meditating, talking to people that inspire me, taking my passion for blogging and style more seriously, watching UA-cam. If anything just know you're definitely not alone in this phase of life! If you ever want to venture out to NC (charlotte or wilmington area) I'd love to meet up. Sending peace and love your way!!
Waking up by 7:30 and going to bed by 10:00 has changed my life! Waking up with hot tea and water, then taking a morning walk is such a positive mood setter.
I thought graduating college would solve all my problems and I would know exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life. I'm currently in the middle of moving from San Francisco back to Seattle, hoping that the change of scenery will inspire me to do or find what's going to make me happy. Even though I'm only moving back home, I think any sort of change is good. I've been wanting to start a UA-cam channel for about 4 years now, but I could never muster up the courage. So thank you for posting this. You've inspired me step out of my comfort zone and stop making excuses for why I shouldn't do something.
I think you would really benefit from having a therapist! They are there not only to listen, but to give you professional advice and coping skills. Being in therapy has helped me so much throughout the years :)
I know what you mean...but i really think that you should go and get a “normal 24/7“ job. It will get you out of your funk. Another thing that you could try is getting a seperate working-place. It is important that we have a reason to get up in the morning. Love from Europe
life is not a perpetual vacation. you have to work to live. that's just the way it is. there's no getting around it. you've had an extremely privileged life thus far and it's time to buckle down, grow up and stop complaining about "being in a funk" all the time.
I love you lindsey and honestly im just saying this to help you! But every other video you post is about you not having motivation or being bored or "in a funk". You dont realize how amazing your life is. 1,000,000 on your main channels and hundreds of thousands on your vlog channel. YOU have everything you need to be successful on youtube (you already are) stop making excuses for yourself. Your channels are all about you, and it is your job. YT is the way you make your living, treat it that way, put effort into your videos, upload frequently, use some creativity. Its not going to come super easy. I hope you go back to being the beautybaby44 I originally subscribed to. Love you!
I've watched you since 2011 and the last 2 years it's been really hard to watch your channels and follow them. All you post about is complaining about your life. Listen to these comments about seeking help and don't take your following for granted. I've loved watching you grow up and you're an amazing girl with so much opportunity in front of you, but it's hard to watch someone with so much with such an easy life complaining so much. Change your life. Change your job. Let's be honest, you really don't like UA-cam for whatever reason, that's fine. Be happy. Listen to yourself and everything that you preach because you don't follow it and it's frustrating. Travel. Get a new job. Find a passion. You have a degree, but you're not doing anything with it. So many of your followers don't have what you have. We are all really hard working students who work and pay for their lives on their own with a lot less than you. Understand what you have and stop this. Please.
Personally Lindsey I think you would feel much better in Portland!! But no matter where you go or if you stay in LA you are seriously such an amazing person and I can't wait to see where you take your life. 🌻
I was in a very similar funk during my sophomore year of college. I highly recommend traveling for getting out of a funk. When I was a junior, I spent a semester studying abroad in London. While abroad, I also took the opportunity to do some solo traveling to other places in Europe and I found that to be a really enlightening experience. Part of why I recommend doing some solo traveling is because you really get to "check-in" with yourself and figure out what's really important to you. You have obviously done a lot of traveling in the US, but I think you should consider going abroad for a while, especially since that's something you've expressed interest in doing. Best of luck. I know you will find a way out of this funk :)
for me getting out of a funk means being selfish. Take time to not worry about being available 24/7 for other people. Be unavailable to take care of yourself. do whatever youve been craving to do :)
Traveling helps me a lot when I'm stuck in a funk and if you feel uninspired with the whole 'beauty/ lifestyle' thing that we used to do, then get a drone and start filming shots of your travels! I'd love to see a travel vlogs from you. :) I remember a video you made months and months back and I left this huge comment, so I won't say the same thing, but focus on yourself and your work instead of making comparisons to what other people in LA are doing. That was something I really struggled with in the past. Comparing yourself can make you feel horrible and you have to find your niche. I know you have one! The only person who can pull you out of that funk is you and I truly believe you can do it.
you've been making videos about being in a funk (esp. w/ youtube) for months now--it's the theme of the majority of the content you've uploaded lately. Being successfully self-employed takes a ton of drive and non-stop hard work and it's not even fulfilling you. I don't think you want to work. A "typical 9-5 job" doesn't have to be restrictive or miserable--I think that's something you don't understand. I'm passionate about my job and I work 9-5. Full-time jobs don't have to be a bad thing. It comes down to passion. You have to find something you like doing and you're not going to do that making "funk" vlogs once a month. Funks only end when you get educated, create, and explore.
the location where you live is not the problem, you personally are. You can move to any place in the world but the way you are feeling won't go away until you work through it. You have such a great opportunity with YT to have the time and income to really explore who you are and who you want to become. I think your self-esteem is suffering because a lot of your YT friends are expanding their brand passed YT and it's getting to you because you haven't had that opportunity to do the same but at the same time your YT friends pour their heart and soul into the content they post and you kind of don't. You don't try very much with your content which makes me feel that you don't really care much about making this a real career. You do YT because you like the community it brings for you but not because you want this to be your life long career. You need to step outside of the situation you are in and perhaps consider other alternatives. What makes you smile? What makes you feel alive? & run with that feeling, find a job within your happiness and you'll be okay.
I agree with everyone commenting that your channel becoming a travel/festival channel would be very beneficial to you and your happiness. I've been watching you for 5 years and you've grown so much as a person. Your followers will support your content no matter what you post.
I totally see you moving out of LA. I think it's getting more like a routine and you crave more adventure and things like that. You don't want a regular 9-5 but maybe that's what LA is now for you. Change is great and I feel like you will do well wherever you go. there are so many inspirational quotes and books that will probably help you. You're happiness is the most important so do what you feel is right! I agree about the travelling part too.
You definitely have to explore Haight-Ashbury. If you have a car, definitely check out the redwoods in Marin and Sonoma Counties. There's so much to do in the Bay Area besides SF. Hope you enjoy my home :)
you don't realize how easy you have it. you technically don't have a job because UA-cam doesn't seem to interest you that much anymore since all you ever talk about it being in a funk or not knowing what to do with your channels. you have such a great platform to start something and you're so young that you can make a difference and possibly start that into a career. UA-cam isn't going to last forever so now would be the best time to find something that would interest you using the platform that you have and be happy with what you end up with.
Crazy to think how far you've come! I've watched you for over 5 years and you've always been an inspiration and like a friend to me. I've also been feeling the same way recently. My biggest advice is to just keep going. I often feel frustrated or frantic to find where I'm headed next or what the right path is and it can almost be crippling to the point where you want to do nothing. So just keep going! Wherever it is, whatever it is you're doing don't focus on whether it's the right place, time, path etc just keep moving forward and it will lead you to where you're meant to be!! Keep being the positive light you are! If you ever make your way to Maine, let me know! (:
I love how real you are. As a 20yo college student, I can relate SO MUCH to what you're saying. And it's comforting to see that someone you've been following and admiring for so long is eventually having the same issues in life as yourself ! Thank you Lindsey :)
I was in a funk for probably the last two years of highschool, so I decided to move to a city 500 miles away to go to college. I moved, knew absolutely no one for the first month, but still absolutely loved it. I'm going into month three and even though I miss my friends and family back home, it makes the time that I do get to spend with them when I go home just that much more special. I love the place I am now and I feel like I'm in control of my life and always learning something new and meeting new people. If you feel like you just don't belong in LA anymore, you should absolutely move. move to a city where you don't know anyone and just explore and let yourself grow and meet people naturally. Its so freeing.
Regina Williams the "funk" is you will never be happy, satisfied, fulfilled at doing anything when your always comparing yourself to others. Nothing you do will ever be good enough.
I have been thinking this about lindsey for a year or two. i think she definitely has "high-functioning depression". I have it too and I find myself feeling very similar to lindsey. i hope she can recognize that theres nothing wrong with having depression and she gets help/
You say you don't like routine but honestly sometimes if you don't have a routine you go crazy. Its all fun to have free time and be able to do what you want when you want, but over time it can be draining. Having a routine really helps me to focus and puts my head back into reality. I feel like I relate to you a lot. I hope you find inspiration and a pathway for what you want to do for now :) you have so much support on here. Part time Jobs may also seem boring but i think it could be a good option for you. Part time jobs can be fun if you are in an environment that suits you :) good luck Lindsey xo
My advice for the channel stuff is to put better, more produced and shorter vlogs on your main channel, but keep the relaxed, talkative and more stripped down vlogs here. As for the funk, if you have the freedom to try something new, do it. You're so lucky to have that freedom, so use it. Live, girl. We'll be watching to see what great things you get up to!!
We are so alike in so many ways, I consistently relate to all of your videos. I'm also 22 and I feel like people our age often feel this way. It's a weird transitional period in life where you realize that you're getting older, but you also are acknowledging the fact that you're still so young and want to do and see so many things in the world. It's hard to know whether to venture out and explore these areas of life, or stay grounded and focus on building upon what you already have. I think most of us gravitate towards the former; the idea of travel and adventure and new experiences sounds so appealing. Surrounding yourself in a new area with new people, I think, can definitely help motivate you to try new things and be a different person. I know that whenever I move somewhere new I start getting into new routines and just have an overall different vibe from the change of scenery. Anyway, this is getting super rambly, but my point is I think it could be worth it to try and immerse yourself in a new environment. I currently live in the LA area, and I've also considered moving to SF. Not too far, but still a major difference being that it's in Northern CA. If you're ever looking for a friend who can relate to these struggles, or someone to move/travel with so the idea isn't quite as scary, you should hit me up. Good luck girl :)
The whole not wanting to wake up in the morning thing... I relate. I just want to stay in my dream-world forever. I really don't think it is healthy, I'm going to start talking to my therapist again and I suggest that you talk to somebody as well, it's always nice to speak to a professional who can help inspire you
I'm a bit late and I'm not sure if you'll read this but I'm typing it anyway. You seem to make a lot excuses about making content instead of just making it. The idea of making sitting down videos being outdated is a myth; tons of people make videos like that and are financially stable. You barely post anything anymore and you still have thousands of views so clearly someone is interested in what you have to say. Just go for it and post what you want and over time you will figure out what you do and do not like. And for what you want to do in life you should do more than just whine about it. Go try new things and get around new people. Your friends seem nice enough but I know how it is to constantly compare myself to people. It's unhealthy and it doesn't help you one bit! You said you haven't traveled a lot of of America but I've seen videos where you have been to England, Switzerland,France,Italy, Greece, and the Bahamas. That's 6 more countries that I have traveled to. Please realize how lucky you are and more importantly, seize this opportunity. You have a platform that attracts thousands of people and are financially stable enough to take off time when you'd like. I wish I was in the same situation. Your holding your own self back and if you don't stop it will only make things worse.
what helps me while i'm in a funk is looking at old pictures. pictures from when i was young, pics with different friends, and just pics of happy times. it lightens my spirit and helps me to laugh
Since all I'm seeing is criticism coming from people who don't know you and will never know every layer of your life, I'm gonna not do that and let you know what helps me get out of my weird funks where I feel unmotivated and uninspired. 1) Go outside! Take a long ass walk or hike by yourself and really take time to notice the beauty around you. 2) Wake up early!!!!!! Honestly the most important part of getting out of a funk. Plug in your phone across the room so you have to physically get up to turn it off, and create a morning routine for yourself. You'll feel so much more in control and productive which will spill over into the rest of your day:) 3) Girl you know you have to CONSISTENTLY meditate. Take some time to create some bangin' affirmations and mantras and meditate on them twice a day! Once when you wake up and once before bed. You will be amazed at how much clearer you'll feel mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Live every day intentionally. Being 22 is hard! I just turned 25 a month ago (*~virgo sisterhood~*) and I'm still having a hard time figuring everything out. Don't ever stop fighting for the life you want and know you deserve. It's definitely gonna be hard and it's gonna take serious committment to making it happen, but you'll get there. Hang in mama, we're all rooting for ya. Believe in the good things coming:)
Sammi Bennett YOU ARE AWESOME - reading through this comment section I feel a funk coming on myself 😂 it seems that people are a little jealous that Lindsay is able to have such an extraordinary life, while they sit in their jobs working on something that is uninspiring to them just to make ends meet... What they don't seem to understand is the fact that 1. She created all of this for herself, it wasn't just handed to her 2. They could do the same thing if they worked hard enough and 3. Everyone has times when they doubt themselves or get uninspired no matter who they are or what kind of life they have... Anyways thanks for this beautiful beam of light in this dark comment feed
I get the whole settling with jobs and moving. The first 3 years at my job after college I traveled a lot and didn't live anywhere for longer than 9months. I've now been living in the same place for a year and a half and while I love the people I work with but the job itself is not a dream (it's 9-5 type). In 2 months I'm transferring to another one of our office and will be moving 1000 miles away. I'm so excited for the new experiences but am terrified at the same time. You will always go through funks. 25 and 26 have been pretty bad for me. I'm still trying to get out of my year and a half long funk.
It's time to go to therapy. You are an adult Lindsey, wake up and realize that you can't keep this up for much longer, it's time to set goals and stops being lazy and realize that life it's not about doing just what pleases you, but putting in the hard work, the sacrifices, because the joy that comes with achieving is higher than the one of not doing anything.
I agree. She definitely needs some kind of guidance. I think the best thing for her is to move back home and be closer to her parents and other family members. She needs to get her life into perspective. There are so many business opportunities that come with UA-cam, but I feel that she lacks motivation to pursue any of them.
Trigger warning: The following is not full of fuzzy butterflies. The following is what I perceive to be the hard truth from judgments made from the other side of a screen over the last few years of being a subscriber. Lindsey, first off I love you and your videos. They have brightened my day, brought me entertainment, and left me smiling many times. I have watched your videos all throughout your high school days in Georgia. You were someone that I really looked up to especially since you are only a few years older than me. I thought you were so cool, smart, driven, and beautiful. I saw the drive you had when you were in high school, and how you worked so hard in order to do well. Now I don't fully understand what is happening to you. I suppose it is a quarter life crisis like many others have commented. I have seen a huge change in you with your videos the last few months, and this video seems like the tip of the iceberg. This video got me thinking as to why I watch your videos. I watch your videos since I want to see what you are doing, accomplishing, and laughing about. I watch your videos since all throughout high school I thought of you as a little like the older sister I never had, who gave me beauty tips and fashion advice. I am not saying that you need to present an airbrushed life to UA-cam, or that you always need to be superficial and plastic. What I am trying to say is I no longer see much point in your videos, or understand what you are doing with your life. You are talking about how depressing it is to come home to a city loft where you can afford to hire an interior designer or to just pop down to San Fransisco for two weeks with no obligations. Lindsey, I love you, but you need to do something with your life. I have always been a fan, but I no longer see your drive or direction. I know that part of that is growing up, but we don't have the luxury of immortality to spend months in a standstill. If UA-cam is no longer your passion, then don't do it. I am not here as a subscriber or a viewer to throw a pity party for you, but instead, I want you to be happy and progress with your life. Go back to school, get a job, just do something productive. I know I don't know everything that is going on in your life, but from what you have shared, and what I have seen the last few months, you no longer seem to be going towards a goal. You seem to be aimlessly floating on the winds of life, not pushing against the current to succeed. Life is like climbing an infinite escalator, if you don't keep going forward, you are just going backward. I know life is tough, but right now is the time to know that floating through life isn't going to bring you happiness. Real happiness is worked for, not delivered in a monthly beauty box. To me at least I never have been happier than when I accomplished a goal or did something kind for someone else. Maybe this is an old-fashioned way of thinking, and maybe I am just a college student who is wondering where her role model went. Either way, I just hope you find something that will bring you real happiness, and not just the short-lived kind you get from a manicure that will eventually chip, or a road trip that will inevitably end. I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world! I am not trying to hate, but instead just want to know where the light and fire behind your eyes went.
I was feeling like that alot last year and the beginning of this year! im 23 so i totally understand it! I prayed for guidence a lot. And journaled what I wanted, my purpose for being here, what i want my purpose to be. And I was at the right places at the right time, I was open to risks and opportunities. I feel more like im in the right path now! And I have more purpose and drive, Its not perfect but thats life!
Something that I'd suggest, and I know this might not be possible, but if you're looking into living somewhere else maybe you should consider trying a new country all together. If you like Vancouver it could be an option, or go live in Europe or somewhere very different, could help the funk. If you have the option this might be a good opportunity
You feel unmotivated and uninspired because you have nothing to look forward to. If you were in school or had a job you would know what you had to everyday without any questions about it. Like some of the previous comments said, it's time to grow up and stop blaming this "funk" for your lack of productivity. Do something about it whether that's creating content you love , going back to school, or finding a job in the makeup industry or even for music festivals
Lindsey I've been watching your videos for almost 5 years now and one of the reasons why I support you is because of how open and honest you are about life. I know this isn't exactly an advice video, but I like how I can relate to others on being uncertain with "what you're doing with your life". I think you could definitely feel better if you change something up, whether that means traveling, moving, or just starting something new in LA. I hope you keep enjoying your time in SF it's one of my favorite places :)
This was such a good video to watch because this is exactly how I feel! I have major anxiety about branching out and starting new things and I want to move but am too nervous and am always thinking of the worst scenario. Watching positive UA-cam videos and going to therapy is how I've been working to better myself. I'm also reading a book called "The Four Agreements" and it really helps give me something to think about. It's a really good book if you want to lose yourself and realize the bigger picture. Good luck to you!!! I hate being in a funk so I can only imagine how you feel. Lots of love!
I know you think you aren't doing as much as your friends and that you find yourself comparing to them but honestly you are so inspirational and maybe you don't see it but I have been watching you since you were in high school. I literally have grown up with you and you have accomplished so much! I mean you are able to afford an incredible apartment and you treat your dog so well and you have definitely found your style and you spread positivity on a daily basis. You and Meghan are such beautiful people, I really feel like I know you two so I just wanted to remind you that even though you have gone through a funk, you are still super inspirational and you have accomplished so much. Love you girl!
I love you Lindsey! Aw. I totally relate. Like always, your sit down videos like this make me feel better about all my own concerns. You're an amazing person. So motivational, your advice and little tips mean so much, even when you talk about what you're struggling with, know you're not alone and it makes me feel better too. Keep it up, you'll get to where you are meant to be. xx
Hi I just wanted to say Lindsey you've been such an inspiration for me, and I think you are a such a good person inside and out. I've currently been in a funk too, and it's so great to read all of our comments (the viewers) because I really feel like we can all relate to how REAL we are. Thanks for radiating positivity, I look forward to watching your videos - you're easily one of my best friends. Lots of love 💕 -K
I love this video, I'm feeling the same way about life, I'm not feeling inspired and like I can't find my way but it really helped me to know that I'm not the only one and I hope you start to feel more inspired!
I was in a funk a few months ago. I didn't know why and still don't know. Sometimes it comes back for like a day and all I wanted to do was stay in my room and not talk to anyone. I think what helped me get out of it was spending every night with my best friends, not going out partying, but sit by a lake and get coffee or just go out for dinner. Basically just spending time with people that constantly made me laugh. I hope you feel better soon💗💗💗
Thank you for being so real with us! 💗 Glad to know someone is in the same place as I am! I genuinely just don't feel like myself but I need to realize that I am changing and change can be good!😊
I suffer from clinical depression so I get in a funk at least once a year and honestly the only thing I could do is just wait and let it ride its course. There are things though that can help you distract from what you feel like you said, traveling, and just hanging out with friends. If you feel stressed or anything alone time is great but it could really get you thinking about all of the bad things in your life so surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you and bring so much positivity in your life. Ily.
this might be one of my favorite uploads from you. you just seem so happy and passionate in this video it makes me really happy. this video is exactly what i needed to hear. LOVE YOU GIRL ❤️❤️
Oh man I've never related to anything more, didn't know how to explain it to anyone but you did it amazingly. Very reassuring to know others feel the same way. You keep doing you gf, you rock!
Rewatching old vlogs and its so crazy to see in one year how things have changed! I've been watching your videos for years and it makes me so happy to see how happy you are!
I'm such a huge supporter of yours and I have been subscribed to you for so long but it seems like YT is the problem, your heart is not in it but you recognise the incredible opportunity in front of you hence your dilemma x
I don't know if this will help or not, but just something I have noticed after watching YT a long time. Channels are usually the most interesting when the person does it as a hobby...meaning, they have a "real" job and life and do YT in their spare time. I think the reason for this is because in order to have new, fresh ideas, you have to experience life. It seems as if content gets stale and YTers complain of this pressure after they make it their full time job. My best advice is to not run from your problems but face them. Get a career or go back to school. Embrace another interest in life. Make UA-cam videos in your spare time. You're young and don't have to have everything figured out. I always solve my existential crises by staying busy. Said lovingly and supportively from someone much older than you that has had her fair share of existential crises. Best of luck!
Honestly I'm just going to put this out there, fuck anyone who says that Lindsey is immature for being in this "funk." She is 22 years old and has her whole life ahead of her. It's 2016, and in 2016 there are opportunities that aren't the general 9-5 job and those opportunities take as much hard work as any other job. At this point in time having a job through the internet is 100% normal, and yes for Lindsey, UA-cam may be the dream job but if she is having doubts about her own personal life that is her business and no one should act like she's immature because of it. Some of these people commenting need to start realizing that youtubers and even celebrities are real people who have real feelings and personal lives and everyone prefers a different type of living. It's not immature or unrealistic for Lindsey to not want to settle down. There are so many places and jobs in this world and she has the right to explore and even openly talk about how she feels with her viewers and she doesn't need the hate/mom type comments telling her her dreams are unrealistic because they absolutely are not and I'm sure Lindsey can do whatever she puts her mind to.
Lindsey I can definitely relate to what you mean. You talking about books made me miss reading and motivated to read. You're a amazing and deserve to be happy, love you Lindsey
This video makes me really happy because it shows that you're a real person with real problems. You inspire me to be spontaneous and adventurous and live life to the fullest. I think now more than ever you inspire people. I love these life update, sitting down talking videos. PLEASE KEEP MAKING ONES LIKE THESE!!!
having a job outside the home makes you part of something bigger than yourself, it doesn't have to be boring or monotonous but interesting and/or fun, like research, teaching, etc etc etc. Working from home is very isolating especially for someone your age...
i love when you sit down and talk soo much. just keep doing you and figure out what will make you happy; you have so many supporters no matter what! love you
Every single word you said is exactly how I've felt for a while! So glad to know I'm not the only one. Love your videos. Thanks for being true to yourself and opening up.
I have felt exactly what you are taking about! This past summer, I really had to take a step back and focus on myself and put my energy towards things i love and things that make ME happy. Trying new things, visiting new places, having new experiences, meeting new people, are things that have really helped me get out of that negative funk. Sometimes you just need to clear your head, and take time to yourself. And maybe living somewhere new for a couple months could really center you, who knows! As long as you are doing things for yourself and for your own happiness and health, there is nothing to be ashamed of. Take time to yourself and you do you boo! Just know you are not alone in how you are feeling. You will get out of this "funk" as an even better version of yourself. xx PS San Francisco is the place I went to when I was feeling those things, and after my time there, things really started looking up. ;) love you Lindsey!

Hi Lindsey! Welcome to the 22 train! 💖 My funks might be a bit different, I have depression, so I get into funks every now and then. In those episodes I get so uninspired and unmotivated! I don't find joy in the things I love, so I totally get when you say that you don't feel inspired. It's hard adulting, girl! I've had trouble trying to figure out what it is that I want in life for me because sometimes it seems like it's so hard to get there and that it's so far away! You are so creative and more importantly capable of doing anything your heart desires. so my advice to you is to have courage and be brave if moving out of LA is what you think is best for you! Your true friends will always support you wherever you go, and you know you always have a place in LA to call home with your friends and sister! Hope to meet you if you ever come to Texas! 💖
I think it would be really cool if you arranged your own music festival. You love them so much you could make the best musical festival ever and promote it on your channel and social medias. I think you could make that a thing.
I've been watching you since you first began your channel, and I've loved watching you grow. I'm turning 22 this year too (eppp!), and I know exactly how you feel about being lost and unmotivated especially seeing friends doing things you wish you were achieving. You have always inspired me, and I always get so excited when you upload a new video. I was in a rut for almost 2 years, but the best thing I did was doing a degree I love, surrounding myself with people that made me happy, ignoring the negatives and just having me time. When you feel lonely, that's when you need to be alone the most. I hope you continue to make videos and find what inspires you
Honestly, some days I wonder why keep going on with life, and then I can watch your video and then I realize why. You help me realize that everyone is normal and we all have issues even the people who seem like they have their life together. I have been watching your video since you were in your pink room with zebra print covers and I'm only 14. I was addicted to UA-cam before it was even a big thing and most of my time on here was just watching your videos. You always seem to put a smile to my face. You and Meghan definitely have great mindsets for life. When I listened to this video I realized that maybe why you are in a funk is because you are getting bored and there's nothing very new in your life. The time you seem most happiest is when you travel and try new things so maybe you should try taking on a new task in life like a new project for UA-cam or maybe moving to a new city. I just think it might help but either way I've been typing for too long now. I love you lindsey!:) I don't think you could ever understand how much you have helped me through life and trying to understand it. Thank you for everything!:) and if you ever feel unmotivated, let me and everyone else you have helped and inspired be your inspiration. Look back on the very first reason you started UA-cam and maybe then you will find your motivation. You are capable of so much so don't hold back. If you want to make a video but aren't sure people will like it, do it anyways. You have so many subscribers because we want to watch your videos whether they are sit downs like this or really edited cool ones. Don't compare yourself to others. You have made it so far without doing so. Keep your creativity going because you are very creative so don't hold back and just let it shine. Ps did I mention that we are both from Georgia and you only lived like 2 hours away from me and I've always wanted to meet you
Getting into a routine always helps me get out of a funk! Whether that be a job, volunteering, or even just having a planned date with a friend every Wednesday. Just having things planned to prepare for helps me. I have bipolar disorder and ADHD so routine and events are very important for me.
I have been in a funk for about two and a half years now. When I was in high school I was miserable and burnt out. I almost didn't graduate, but I'm so glad I made it. As soon as I graduated I bought a one-way ticket to Spain to go live with my grandparents to wind down, get new experiences and try to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. It's probably the best thing I could've done, because now I'm able to miss doing something useful with my time and I feel inspired to go out and try to make a life for myself. And even though I'm really scared to put myself out there, It's nice to be able to finally be motivated to at least try! Anyways.. I love your channels, and I find it super refreshing to be able to hear your experiences and how real and relatable they are! Much love from Norway :)
i looove every time you do a long sit down talk video because i can relate to it SO much. I have been in a funk lately (a few times actually) and the things you've mentioned in this video is literally what's been going on in my mind as well. LIFE IS TOUGH MAN ! haha but seriously though it will all be ok we can go through this. I've been subscribed to you for so long and i definitely feel a connection with you lindsey. I love you & keep doing what you do because you make me happier every time you upload a vlog or a video on ur main channel. I LOVE YOU xx
Honestly I think getting a part time job would help you a lot!!! maybe in retail or something xx
Claudia Rose I agree so much
I wouldn't go for just any retail job. I worked in retail until recently and the company treated both the customers and employees horrible
I think getting a nice part time job waiting tables in a cool cafe or restaurant or just somewhere nice where you can go out and get some new experiences. when you have to work you appreciate your time off so much more and you might get inspired for new video ideas 😊😊😊
Claudia Rose I actually agree! Sometimes a little bit of structure is good because it forces you to value and make the best of your free time.
Radio Head well dah! ...
I'm 30,000 in student loan debt and I can't find a job that pays enough to keep food on the table and pay off my loans. I think your pretty lucky to have such a chill situation. I'm only 21 and I feel so lost.
ughh. I feel you.
Apply to everything you see around , if no one is hiring still ask to be interviewed. Be positive . Something will come up . If you have a car why not trying uber ?
LaLunaa RT
***** of course! I began going for a bachelor of science in psychology but I didn't do well in the science classes so I ended up switching to communication management which is basically the equivalent to human resources at my school.
TheChicandCheapBlog I have applied to everything I can, but the decent jobs don't want to hire me due to lack of experience. Well how can i get experience if no one will give me a job!! I am able to get the low paying jobs no problem, but the whole point of me going to college was to not be living paycheck to paycheck. I regret ever getting a degree when my best friend who is a college dropout is making 60,000 a year at the airport.
I work 50-60 hours a week and go to school full time. I am very depressed and so exhausted. I wish that I could sleep in late or travel by myself.
That sounds really tough!
Ugh, me too. I can't remember the last time i slept in late :(. hope this gets better for you. sending positive vibes and also relate to your situation.
Thank you ladies so much for your sweet words!! I hope things look up for you as well, Veronica
I agree, I'm in a similar situation, school and work. It's hard to not be bitter when I feel like some people could have it way worse, but everyone has their own battles. We'll get through it!
Sammie Rose All the best Sammie!!
The time is NOW Linds.
mhmm
Hannah Elizabeth best comment ever. I feel like so many youtubers are out of touch with reality and what the average population lives like!
Hannah Elizabeth g
So true
i feel like amanda steele is doing pretty well in that aspect - making a name for herself outside of youtube
hear* wow 😳
Oh my gosh you are me!!!!
LINDSAY TRAVEL THE WORLD AND STAY WITH YOUR SUSCRIBERS!!! i live in Mexico city, COME VISIT!!
Toni Quintanilla I'm 26 and still in a funk 😞
Yesss!!! And she could travel to all kinds of unique places, not just cities, get out in nature girl!
Cornell Jenkins I feel this so hard!!!! You can do it tho!!!! I'm cheering you on
Natkronk thank you, that means a lot :)
i totally feel this too! it's my freshman year in college and i'm having major second thoughts on if i should even be in college or not. we just have to push through and remember everything will work out in the end :)
to even be brilliant enough to do a major like chemical engineering or becoming a doctor takes serious skill! It will be worth it in the long run ☺💗
Madisyn B ***** you guys are amazing! thanks so much for that :)💕
Honestly I think a 9-5 job could be good for you, even just part time.
Insta: KronkNatalie
this is awesome to hear! thanks for stickin with me since the Georgia days :))
livinlikelindsey you are actually the reason I LOVE music festivals and why I have unplugged while I'm there and truly enjoyed the experience.
I second this comment
100% agree
lindsey, i gotta be honest. tough love gets me out of a funk. you need to buckle down and just do it. if this is what you truly want like you say it is, you do it. you seem like you have been floundering, and its time to be tough in yourself and who you are. just get it done. you are in a job where u create your own hours, and though that is a luxury, it means you need to be tough and prove that you can separate your life and work successfully. with you you seem like you are doing either one fully or the other fully. you need to just realize that. you want your vlogs to be better? spend a day googling ways to learn final cut and downloading presets and learning how to edit. want people to watch your videos? you promote those bomb ass videos on all ur social medias like a madwoman. you want to create content that is deeper than the typical beauty guru? create videos that have a PURPOSE. GO OUT THERE AND DO THE DAMN THING.
izzy you're good at the motivational pep talk thing girl! I think we can all take this advice of just working hard and going for it! 👏🏻😁
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
we luv u boo. only want to see u succeed
Why don't you join some group activities , yoga , spinning , painting .,, get out of your comfort zone !
Brianna S I'm in a very similar situation!
i feel the same!! all my friends are in college having awesome experiences, but i'm going to college in my hometown and i feel like i'm in a funk. i miss going on adventures with my friends, i hope you make a few really good friends (same goes for me lol) and have fun times with them :)
girl I am so with you!
TheChicandCheapBlog I really should. I've always been interested in yoga.
YES!
You could move to another city in Southern California! You could come to Orange County ~ it's much more "chill" here than busy LA. :)
Yes! I think she would love it here in the OC!!
I could see her in Encinitas
omg YES! I love OC SO MUCH!!!
Orange County is where dreams come to die
Kayla Maki I'm sorry your dreams died, mine are living
Your audience will always be here with you. xx
thank you love
Sending peace and love your way!!
so glad to know you can relate. crazy that we're reading the same books! I know this is just a phase and we'll figure it all out love
If you're having internal struggles, those struggles are going to follow you wherever you go.
MOVE TO NYC! I really think it's a good place, Kailee and Emily live there, and it's not as toxic as LA
I feel like every video you post is exactly like this one.
Its so freeing.
i think "the funk" is called depression
Regina Williams Not necessarily. You can be "depressed" but not be clinically diagnosed with depression.
Megan Jones it's still depression, you don't have to be diagnosed for it to be valid
Regina Williams yeah i think so too she has some of the symptoms i also suffer from depression
"a normal 22 year old girl" OKAY DONT PULL A ZAYN ON US
We are so alike in so many ways, I consistently relate to all of your videos.
Your holding your own self back and if you don't stop it will only make things worse.
i honestly think a routine and a job outside of youtube would be great for you
what helps me while i'm in a funk is looking at old pictures. pictures from when i was young, pics with different friends, and just pics of happy times. it lightens my spirit and helps me to laugh
You'll feel so much more in control and productive which will spill over into the rest of your day:)
3) Girl you know you have to CONSISTENTLY meditate.
Cecile Bizet yes truly! that's exactly what I felt :)
Move to the Central Valley! (That's where I'm from). I miss home :( I'm in San Diego and I miss the slow living life of my northern/central Cali home
Walnut Creek over in the Bay Area is beautiful, I'm not from there but I think there's hikes. Over by half moon bay is absolutely beautiful as well!
I genuinely just don't feel like myself but I need to realize that I am changing and change can be good!😊
How many I'm in a funk videos can someone do?
I love these kinds of videos Linds!!! Thanks for opening up with us it inspires me so make videos like this too!! 💖💖
Totally was waiting for you to say "and you can get it on audible.com!" hahahahaha
You will get out of this "funk" as an even better version of yourself. xx
PS San Francisco is the place I went to when I was feeling those things, and after my time there, things really started looking up. ;) love you Lindsey!
Hi Lindsey! Welcome to the 22 train! 💖
My funks might be a bit different, I have depression, so I get into funks every now and then.
I think you could make that a thing.
you're such an inspiration, I've been watching you for years and I'm proud of how strong you've become and how much you've grown ❤
I agree !! almost 4 years of watching your vids and i appreciate you sharing part of your life with us .
I hope you continue to make videos and find what inspires you
Literally my life for the past year. We're in this together girl. Definitely helps knowing that others feel the same.
