Walt Disney Animation Studios' upcoming feature film “Encanto” tells the tale of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. Each child has been blessed with a magic gift unique to them-each child except Mirabel. But when the family’s home is threatened, Mirabel may be their only hope.
The voice cast includes Stephanie Beatriz as Mirabel; María Cecilia Botero as Mirabel’s grandmother Alma aka Abuela; John Leguizamo as Bruno; Angie Cepeda and Wilmer Valderrama as Mirabel’s parents, Julieta and Agustín; and Diane Guererro and Jessica Darrow as Mirabel’s sisters, Isabela and Luisa. Also lending their voices are Carolina Gaitán and Mauro Castillo as Mirabel’s aunt and uncle, Pepa and Félix; and Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz and Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Mirabel’s cousins Dolores, Camilo and Antonio, respectively.
The film features all-new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “Moana”) and is directed by Byron Howard (“Zootopia,” “Tangled”) and Jared Bush (co-director “Zootopia”), co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer “The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez”) and produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino. Bush and Castro Smith are screenwriters on the film. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” is now playing only in theaters.

As a Colombian, I can confirm we say we won't talk about something and then low-key tell you a whole story with specific names, backstories, three different storylines that merge at the end, and, of course, a plot twist... and then tell you not to tell anyone...
Bwahaha! Sounds like us black people too! No wonder we're distantly related!

Wow. I had no idea that I was Columbian until now.
I absolutely love how Felix says their wedding day was a joyous one, despite Pépe trying to emphasize that it was ruined by the weather and Bruno.
I feel like Bruno was just telling her to relax as he could tell she was stressed but hiding it her hearing him say rain made her anxiety spike causing that weather by accident. The smile was probably mean as one for comfort not malicious intent
@@crescentmoon5859 that's what I thought! I think Bruno's words just made her upset and the shift in her mood led to the storm, so the rain is kinda her fault

The fact that the changing weather along the song is canonically possible. This song is just amazing.

I know practically nothing about this animated couple, but already they feel like goals. She's telling/singing about how the wedding day got ruined, he's having fun with it, and both of them are nearly smiling at the end of it as they look at each other despite being married in this hurricane. Also, that part where he walks his fingers up her arm as he said 'I'm sorry mi vida go on' is adorable. They're cute, I love them, and I know so little yet so much in this small clip.
I’m absolutely hypnotized by the part where he walks his fingers up her arm. The smooth animation of the ruffles on her dress and her expression, the endearing couple-ness of it all. It’s great.
Same!!

Neither one of them is to blame. Bruno just saw that his sister was stressed and tried to lighten the mood (also when he apologizes in All of You he says that he was also trying to tell her that it was ok for it to rain if that’s what she was feeling; it didn’t have to be sunny all the time(which like super sweet but please use your words Bruno)). And Pepa couldn’t calm herself down b/c she was already stressed before Bruno’s joke and the storm only fed into her anxiety which fed into the storm in a vicious cycle
Yeah and stressed Pepa is making the Maybe Normal rain into a literal hurricane
I like how every "malicious" things related to Bruno that's being told by Pepa and Felix just sounds like normal things he does and they just twist it to sound evil.
For example "Bruno walks in with a mischievous grin" is being said as if he's ready to pull some supervillain mayhem when, to me, it just sounds like he's smiling...just smiling. Nervously if anything, because surely he knows about how everyone sees him and he didn't wanna mess anything up. And the thunders that appeared is just Pepa, being the overdramatic queen she is, reacting to Bruno's smile.
"Bruno says it looks like rain" is just Bruno commenting on how sweaty and nervous his sister is, and Pepa took that to heart and created a hurricane.
Bruno didn't do anything. He just foresaw things, but didn't have anything to do with any of it. But everyone blames him for those bad things. Apparently no one in that town has ever heard of the metaphor "Don't shoot the messenger."
Hmm. Should I tag this as a spoiler when it was already spelled out, or…?
I mean, if bad things happen to happen after his prediction, of course the people it happens to would correlate them? Though in this case, it wasn’t a prediction, just him being cheeky to cut the tension and unintentionally ratcheting it up instead.
The thunder, meanwhile, genuinely was Felix telling the story out of order. Nothing happened until _after_ Bruno comments on the ‘weather’ (joking that she seems stressed, which she was), but, since that would be onesuch thing that she would worry about and could enforce _by_ worrying, she wound up doing so.
It’s not that they purposely twist it to sound evil
It’s just how they see it, like they didn’t know he was talking about how she was sweating they thought he meant he saw that rain was coming.
@@batmanh8899 Yeah, my point exactly.
@@boyfangirl6321 Also, I might be wrong, but after watching the whole movie, I kinda get the feeling that Pepa is only being overly harsh on Bruno in this scene and painting him in a bad light because she's hurt that he left. She's not really mad at Bruno for ruining her wedding, and she probably already knew that he meant no harm, she's just angry because she thinks that he abandoned their family. The memory of her wedding is simply an excuse to bitch about him instead of admitting that she misses her brother and that what's really bothering her is the fact that he disappeared without telling anyone.
Well I don’t think Pepa by after the storm per se, it’s just that Bruno freaked her out and her stress caused t he hurricane.
The fluid movements, the singing, the camera angles, IT LOOKS AMAZING

What did he just say?
I am just happy that they are not the typical sized couple and still see them interact lovingly not making fun/jokes of his or her hight, normalising it for people.
these two seem super adorable
I just realized that her auntie's power is to control whether, and when upset, she makes it rain. Maybe when Bruno was telling them it would rain, he was likely trying to warn her to not get overstressed on their wedding day (As they can be one of the most stressful days for everyone, including the bride and groom). And maybe without realizing, she got overworked and made it rain, but because Bruno can predict things, they blamed it on him
Edit: Ya know what bothers me about this song? How Auntie Pepa says "It was *my* wedding day" while her husband adds "It was *our* wedding day". It seems like Pepa saw the day more important to her, which is why she was the one who seemed the most angered with bringing up Bruno, she blames him for her perfect wedding being ruined. In the song, she said "Married in a hurricane" while when husband said "What a joyous day, but anyways". Her husband was okay with telling Mirebell about Bruno because she had the right to know and as long as he married the woman he loved, the rain didn't bother him (At least not as bad as it effected his wife). But Pepa, mostly focuses on how HER wedding was ruined, when she was mostly the reason it rained in the first place
**Minor spoiler about what happened at the wedding**
Bruno saw her sweating and made a joke about it raining because of her gift but due to his gift being able to see the future, Pepa(The auntie) took it as a prophecy and therefore begin to stress which lead to the hurricane.
It sounds like Bruno doles out self - fulfilling prophecies. He doesn't know how the future would come true, but he tries to warn them. All he saw was rain. Then her sister panics and creates a hurricane. Might be why Bruno left, because they were blaming him for their futures when he had no way of knowing how they would unfold.

I love the dynamic these two characters have so much and how well the movie captured their personalities.
I love how the husband is joining in on the song and the wife is just like,
"Are you telling the story, or am I?"
Just the movements and expressions say so much for each character and I am living for it!!
She actually say's "You telling the story or am i?", so yeah, you are correct
I think the creators were inspired by a very popular phrase that the literal translation would be "do you speak or I speak" that is often used in family discussions 😹😹

Disney hates the name Bruno from luka to this movie:(
Something that really fascinated me about the directing during this song. With its dark dooming feel, to reflect that, the camera is often tilted to one side or the other quite noticeably, while the characters in shot stay upright with the camera most of the time. It’s super cool and carries a really nice vibe that matches the song I think really well. Cant wait to watch this film in full :)
That is a really cool detail! I'm glad you pointed it out!
The tilted camera is called a Dutch angle I believe, it's purposefully used so that the shot feels off and disturbing
@@mandast7455 oh cool! i assumed there would be a propper term for it, but my knowledge is limmited lol

I love Pepa and her husband's dynamic. He really understands her emotional state and knows how to keep her on track.
Ladies get you a man who will smile and enjoy your wedding day even when it’s interrupted by a literal hurricane
Pepa and Felix are so cute together! I love how wholesome they are to each other. Her little smile at 0:41 is so adorable.
Really with a couple of lines and expressions alone we learn everthing about their marriage. She seems to be angry and a tad sellfish, even if by accident, but the man isn't bothered by that and can charisma his way into her good side. Both of them bring the best out of each other
That was a lovely observation mate. And wait for the best part... his name is also Felix! 😄
He’s the Ray of sunshine to help her keep her storm clouds at bay
Pepa is not angry per se, she's just overly emotional and highly expressive and reactionary. She can be a lot to handle but Felix clearly knows how to and brings out the most joyous side of her throughout the film, as well as can calm her down. He probably likes a woman that's strong and expressive and that's why he fell for her, while Pepa loves him for basically being Black latino Jack Black, a cute and funny fluffy guy with smooth moves.
This comment thread is so lovely! I really loved Felix and Pepa’s deep affection for each other and their chemistry, and sulked a bit when I found out that some people thought Pepa was awfully selfish and that Felix was the one who got the short end of the stick in this relationship. While I can understand why they interpret it that way, whenever I revisit this clip I just fall in love with this couple again and can’t help but get a tad bit defensive. Pepa’s mantra that she utters whenever she gets emotional is “clear skies, clear skies” (or something like that- sorry, it’s been a while and I watched it with subtitles). There’s a lot to unpack there.
In my view, her ‘miracle’ was more of a curse because she was never able to control the weather; the weather changed according to her mood. Just imagine how hellish or must’ve been when she was a teenager! What’s worse is that her mother kept telling her that she needed to serve the community. Pepa’s a good person at heart. She wanted to make her mother proud, and to be validated and loved. Ergo, she must have suppressed a lot of natural emotional turmoil since she was just a kid. No wonder she’s grown up to be super sensitive. We still see her struggle to control her nerves and practically force herself to relax constantly throughout the film. Felix is always there to support his wife, and to soothe her. He’s a wonderful man.
+later we find out that Felix’s wish was that Pepa would stop trying to force clear blue skies all the time and just let it snow, let it rain, let it gooooo (during the last scene after Bruno sings his apology, Felix quickly agrees, “that’s what I’ve been saying, bro!”). If he was tired of his wife’s idiosyncrasies and wanted her to be a happy person all the time, he wouldn’t have said that. Felix is obviously happy in the relationship, and simply wants what’s best for his wife and is ready to embrace all of Pepa’s emotions and the consequences.

In encanto Lin Manuel specifically chose that name in order to include the “no no no” into the proposed tango melody of the song. In Luca I think the theory is that Bruno was actually Alberto’s fathers name. But that’s just a theory

Honestly pretty accurate as a hispanic!! Sometimes when I’m in line at the hispanic grocery store, I notice myself tapping my feet on the ground in tune to the music playing😂 we can’t help it!
Gosh, I just love Pepa as a character. Encanto as a whole makes me appreciate how diverse family can be. I always used to be singled out among my dad's family for being the only cousin who is visibly white passing due to being mixed. It doesn't bother me as much as an adult as it did when I was a child/teenager. Encanto really is a fantastic movie.
Just saw the movie with my GF today, the movies pretty good. The animation is cleaner than I've ever seen (save for some truly top notch films) and the plot brought a few tears to my eye (which is unusual since I normally don't cry during films). No Spoilers but can confirm that Bruno is best character.
Knowing Bruno, I just imagine him just going to Pepa wih an awkward af smile and just going "uhh, gee, it looks like rain haha" before realizing that he said it wrong but its too late
I absolutely love the way the characters dance throughout the movie. It looks so natural. THE MOVIE IS SO GOOD… AND THIS MUSIC IS SOME OF THE BEST DISNEY HAS DONE! Please watch it!
The characters are great, the animation is glorious, especially in this song, but the story is really bad. It is basically (SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT) rehashed (unsuccessful) Frozen 2 plot. But, unlike Frozen 2 which was boring and overcomplicated as hell, this was fun to watch (that's why I'm here after all :)). So, my verdict - worth watching, but don't expect Coco/Big Hero 6/Moana level plot.
@@boriscvekic um the plot is fine???? The movie is about family/familial conflict.... more specifically, generational trauma. It was handled perfectly fine, at least from the pov of someone with a similar family dynamic.
I also don't understand how ... the plot is anywhere near Frozen 2's??? Um??? The entire plot of this movie is the main character mending the strain she has with her family. Frozen 2 was Elsa going out on some big adventure because funny magic calling. No similarities whatsoever
@@peepawfart It's the strange magic threatening the "kingdom" in both cartoons. Mirabel gets the calling just as same as Elsa, when nobody else realizes it. Yes, facing generational trauma is the plot of Frozen 2 as well, the sins of grandfather, the death of parents. Plus the certain elements in the cartoon - flowers flowing around the character (even my daughter said "look, like those leaves in Frozen 2"), stomping on the ground while singing, magically changing outfits, moving tiles on the ground (remember those from Frozen 2). BUT, if you've read my comment carefully, I don't think the plot of Encanto is bad, I said it is similar to Frozen 2, but it's way better. Encanto is crafted better, it was directed better, the characters are more meaningful, and I really enjoyed it. Actually I wish Frozen 2 never happened :) Disney is known for reusing certain elements from previous cartoons, it's just that resemblance of Frozen 2 leaves a bitter taste.
P.S. Oh yes, look at Pepa - where did I see a woman with a braid controlling the weather? ;)

"Bruno says, "It looks like rain"
Why did he tell us?
In doing so, he floods my brain"
Calling it the visions aren't evil like everyone thinks it's a self fulfilling prophecy. He simply said "hey it looks like it could rain today" and SHE in turn caused the rain to occur due to her emotions manipulating the weather. She panicked and thus caused the rain. Dang this family be kinda awful if they excommunicated him for things they themselves took out of hand.
Well Bruno is part of the family right? And I am 100% sure he knows what she could do so it’s kinda his fault knowing telling her it could rain in her wedding day could make her nervous and make a rain.
@@kokonut7342 Well, she makes it rain when she's stressed and it was their wedding day. Maybe, he was trying to make a little joke to calm her nerves or was trying to warn her not to get too overworked on the day so she wouldn't lose control of her emotions. But apparently, you can't tell this woman anything because she's too sensitive
i mean, they know how sensitive and dramatic pepa is. that commentary was not accurate, and taking into account that it was her wedding day and she would be probably freaking out AND SHE MANAGED TO MAKE IT SUNNY EVEN IF SHE WASNT FEELING RIGHT, then i dont think pepa is blaming bruno for no reason. i mean, yeah, poor bruno just made a comment, but a very unfortunate one and he would have most probably been warned about not making pepa upset (hell, its his sister. even if they didnt say, he should have known)

Wow 64 Bits, here?
Too cool.
Its so expressiveeee
Saw the movie and I love it
I just love their body movements. It's so satisfying to watch... Anyone else?
Well their creative process relies mostly on animation these days so it makes sense.
My 6 year old daughter is obsessed with this song. I need to take her to the movies soon or she will make me listen to this song 45 times a day!
and are you obsessed too?,,, i do
I don’t see the problem with that. This song is great!
@@joeyjerry1586 we don’t talk about bruuuu no no no
Yeah my twins listen to this until they fall asleep..
The dance choreography and this song in this movie is 🔥🔥 I cannot wait to watch Encanto this weekend with my family in the theatre 🤩🤩
I bet the music made you move to the beat.
Me too!!!
I work at a movie theatre and got to see it early last night and I have to say... You will NOT be disappointed, it was AMAZING! Bruno was my favourite character by the end lol.
@@yokarkat so he's not the bad guy?
@@johnpaul2295 not at all! Hes just quirky and misunderstood lol (and kinda crazy yes). But he left for a good reason we'll see! To protect someone. His gift often gets misunderstood so he felt it the best choice.
I love how the husband looks *so* excited when talking about the wedding 🤣
Its nice to see happy married couples. So often the medias want to sell the story that arguements mean a healthy marriage when its actually the opposite
Even when his wedding day gets interrupted by a literal Hurricane he just grabs an umbrella and still considered it a joyous day. Now that’s a loving husband
I just can't get enough of this song! I haven't seen this movie and now I want to! The one detail I really admire is Mirabel subtly jamming to the song with her shoulders, despite being warned about Bruno. If any of us were witnessing a banging musical number, we'd be doing the same.
I know this may not mean anything to anybody else but the fact that there is a red headed Latina in a big movie fills me with an insane amount of joy, since leaving my country I’ve been questioned a million times about how I could possibly be Latina. The only people who don’t are Latinos them selves. I have liked the US for what it has been, but I can’t wait to move back in January and no longer get bad looks for speaking Spanish in public, nor people here freaking out about my Spanish ‘skills’ and only asking me to teach them swears.
I think he really wants to talk about Bruno. Also, they apparently never mentioned singing about Bruno
I also noticed he’s smiling all the same while remembering how their wedding day got rained on. He even calls it ‘a glorious day’, so things must have gone well despite the weather as he clearly has fond memories of that day
Actually that's a funny thing about raining on wedding days... I'm from a little old old town in Colombia called Ayapel (in Colombia's north coast) and there's a believe that if it's raining on special dates like weddings, baptist, quince's... It's because heaven's gates are open and angels descent to blessed the people
And by the way Pepa's husband is costeño (from Colombia's north coast)... He has costeño accent... Maybe he is happy because that day was his happiest day ever and also felt blessed about it
Through the whole song I got the feeling he had planned for rain from the very start because he knew who he was marrying and found it adorable that she got flustered so easily
He’s just singing and dancing in the Rain ☔️ 💃🕺
Wonderful voices and excellent song

Yes, Disney is the best!!!
As long as you don't have the name Bruno, because my poor nephew is very piss off by it.
Yes
“We don’t talk about Bruno…. BUT”
This movie was such a gem and it really brought back hope that Disney can bring back breathtaking storytelling and singing
I can already tell what the twist is gonna be. Everyone thinks this guy just speaks terrible things into existence, but his gift is actually foresight, and he’s warning people about things that would’ve happened anyway.
well its not like they dont know his gift eveyone knows everyones gift, maybe its just that bad shit always happens after he sees the future. Poor dude.
I feel like Bruno just means it's ok to be stressed and to let yourself relax for real with the wedding day issue. He could probably tell she was hiding her feelings again so she can appear to be calm and relaxed which is not healthy. He didn't cause the storm but made her realize she was stressed. From her realizing that could cause her to make it rain and then anxiety kicked in causing the even worse weather then she blames Bruno for him trying to just say hey relax with a smile. At least that is the interpretation I feel may be accurate....
@@crescentmoon5859 Bruno joke that her nervous sweat look like rain and she thought he have a vision that it was gonna rain in the wedding, she became nervous and make it rain.
She blame him cuz she just discover it was a joke in the ens of encanto when he said to her, until now she thought it was another of his terrible visions(cuz everyone have the idea that or he only see bad things or he make the things happen)
@@alfasvirtuosos1981 So I was half right!?!

THE ANIMATION ,THE FLOW OF THE DRESS, MOVEMENT OF BODY, THE SONG,THE MELODY, EVERY THING ADOUT THIS SONG IS AMAZING
Felix: T H U N D E R
Pepa: 🚶♀️BYE-
The song is great but can I just say I love the camera movement/angles. It makes it feel like an actual recording of a music video except they had to animate the camera moving and that's just incredible.
I just love her head movements at 0:09 make me laugh so hard 🤣
😂😂
I'm glad someone else noticed it 😂
In Jamaica women normally do their heads like that in an argument that's on the verge of becoming a fight 😂 so I was like "Pepa wtf you finna throw hands over Bruno?!???!!"🤣🤣🤣
@@okeenowilson9558 OMG WHY DOES THAT HAPPEN IN NIGERIA TOO 😭👏🏾
Choreography looks so good, and it sounds like Lin applied his signature magic on this piece too, you can hear his style on this song.
Love the details, when Felix and Pepa sang, at first they weren't in harmony and their dance moves are awkward also but then it gets better when Felix sang "sorry mi vida go on" or Pepa's verse before that, the song goes more organize and in harmony and their dance moves have more flow, its beautiful. I have a good feeling for this movie
" *I'm sorry mi Vida, go onnnnnn~* " my favorite part- I love this movie already- 💓
I came from Colombia three years ago. I went with my family to watch Encanto for the first time, we went with our Colombian shirts and high spirits. Everything is so freaking accurate, we were all like: “arepas! Oh, oh, that’s Carlos vives. Omg, buñuelos!” Everything was so accurate; the music, the clothes, the town, the colors, the river, the buildings, the conflict where people have to leave their homes, and the unity of family. Family is the most important thing in Colombia. This felt close to home, loved this movie so much.
I know that Pepa is a bit too emotional but the chemistry between these two... *chef's kiss*
Haven’t seen the movie yet but gosh it looks great: the animation, vocals, music and I love the character expressions
In what world is this a good song?
@@hahnkf8111, in what world is this a bad song?
“Thunder!” That gets me laughing every time, especially if you look at his face. Love this movie.
0:44 OMG LOOK AT MIRABEL! SHE SO HELL RELATABLE 🤣💃
Ah eso cute HAHAHAHA
Man I love this animation, it’s so fluid.
And the fact you can see the uncle’s individual buttcrack creases on his trousers is ludicrous attention to detail and I love it.
I love that if you're wearing headphones you can hear the voices move from one side to the other depending on where they're going.
0:33 she really gave him the “it’s me time” look
theyre so fcking cute I love them and Albertooo ♥♥ que bellos
Bruno-no-no works across so many languages. English, French, Spanish, Portuguese… Kind of a brilliant choice of name. Sucks if your name is Bruno though…
Damn, shit is sad
Not on Portuguese, though. It doesn't have the same magic
Silencio Bruno too , there's some guy name Bruno Disney and Pixar got a problem with
In greece it doesnt rhyme so it says"They dont talk about Bruno everyone here"
I don't think it works in Hebrew or japanese though.
I like the way how Camilo lets Mirabel down gently instead of throwing her
There's something about the cloth physics in this. They look a lot better than past movies, I think I also just like this style of clothing but it does look more realistic. Anyone else?
I feel so sorry Bruno. He’s gifted with foresight, which as we can see sometimes will be a curse onto itself. Then he has both his town and family probably wishing that he was mute.
Instead of viewing it as "This is what’s going to happen, be prepared for it". The town and family is viewing it as "I’m going to cause this to happen to you".
Which is kinda stupid anyway. Like they're just shooting the messenger essentially. Why would you get mad at the person who foresees the future because you don't like the future itself
It's more of ...we will ignore the problem until it is actually a problem to ourself. Just like humans do every day with the world and irs problems. Just su it and forget untill it actually becomes a problem.
With how the scene starts it seems like Mirabel has already met Bruno at this point, especially with her "what if he didn't know what he saw?" Line, it seems like she's met Bruno, he ends up telling or showing her a vision of something happening and then she's gone to her family to ask questions about it to figure out how to solve the upcoming issue
I just realised the colour of the umbrella 0:56 is the flag of Colombia 🇨🇴
Ooh Thanks I didn’t realised until now 😆
The amount of times I’ve watched this is ungodly.
