  • This is the first in a series of videos showing how Czech glass is made in the northern mountains of the Czech Republic. Most of the glass beads manufacturing is done in the city of Jablonec nad Nisou, as well as in many of the surrounding towns and villages in this Bohemian region bordering the Jizera mountains. Pressing the glass is the first stage that all Czech glass goes through, even if it will later be faceted, tumbled, table cut, or coated.

The Czech Republic has the highest global standard for beads. No country comes anywhere near Czech glass beads.
I know because we are big buyers of seed glass beads.
Our bead industry employs thousands of artisans, mainly women because they have the patience to string the really tiny seed beads.
The story of your beads is indeed fascinating. .It matches well with our African handicraft story.
Czech beads came into East Africa through barter trade a long time ago.
Due to the very high demand for the beads in the last 6 years, China has started manufacturing and selling cheap look alike plastic seed beads to replace the Czech high quality glass seed beads.
We want to change this practice because it is negatively affecting our brand value since the plastic beads don't last.
Maybe we can talk some business...
I'll contact you through your website.
      Thank you for sharing.
