the song was written by Brenda Russell who also performed this tune on one of her own albums...Donna's rendition is better IMO although Brenda's version is also good...i remember hearing this tune played on the radio only a handful of times in 1987 and, it then just completely disappeared from the radio waves after a few days...i always wondered about that...this is a very quality, catchy release...had it gotten the proper radio rotation at the time of its release, it would have undoubtedly been one of Donna's biggest hits...it must have been politics or maybe it was her record company at the time that just didn't want to invest the money to promote this single, who knows?...Donna popularity by 1987 was actually beginning to wane primarily due to natural progression and to her choices to change in musical styles e.g. from DISCO to Rock...and, that ugly "rumor" didn't help to keep her out front with the public, either...Donna always created and released the highest quality material that the public would consistently eagerly consume...it was the powers-that-be at the executive levels in the music industry who would eventually determine her destiny beyond her heyday in the mid-to late 70s...i believe they contributed significantly to Donna's "momentum slowdown" although Donna did her part by continuing to record and release high-quality material through out the 80s into the 90s...she found herself at her record companies mercy and they (IMO) sabotaged her career momentum by not supporting her the way she felt they should have...Donna would speak about this in interviews and would say she felt she wasn't treated well by her record companies...fortunately, despite all of these unfortunate circumstances she found herself in, she still made fortunes $$$ from her earlier work which allowed her to live a very well-earned, glamorous life up until her passing in 2012. I will always love and FULLY respect the legacy of Ms. Donna (Gaines) Summer-Sudano. She was a pioneer who opened the doors for many woman who have stood on her shoulders. Nobody will ever come close to Donna Summer. Nobody. Her talent, her love for humanity and her giving spirit as great examples for the rest of us to embrace and follow through out our lives. She (was) a great example for us all. Those of us who truly followed Donna to really "got her" understand what I am saying.
R.I.P - This is such a great song, makes me feel nice for some reason and reminds me so much of that great era, the 80's. I love the mood of this song! RIP Donna Summer xxxx
I was 10 yrs old and I vividly remember beautiful Donna Summer on top of the pops, my family was dancing around the house and I was mesmerised by Donna's presence, such a beautiful women, I'm 41ys old now and still mesmerisied, Thankyou Madam Summer ❤️
Late 80's ! (released on 1987) ...I was 21! and I began going to the Discotheques showing off my talent for dancing; I used to encourage dj's and crowds for Donna Summer's "Dinner With Gerswin" "Bad Reputation" remixes...ohhhh my God; there is an incredible mix of "All Systems Go" (extended remix) ! it is an absolute piece of art dance pop-alternative ('87) and then ...Also, remember the super funky dance pop "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" ('81) and "Supernatural Love" ('84)
She was beautiful, gorgeous & so talented she had a voice like Crystal. Donna Summer was the ultimate soul singer & disco diva she was second to none. Gone too soon. God rest you Donna Summer.
@mike true Thanks for the good cheer all the way from USA! I was going through a very lonely time in my life when this song was released so this song was like one of my friends. I’m grateful to say that things are on the up for me but this song is very much like a dear friend from the past!
e.w.f. faces said: "actually this was her best song ever." agreed! sick rhythm arrangement and slick synth texutres and brenda russell the songsmith. her best song.
1987!..........I turned 21! and I was showing my posters,autographs,t-shirts of Donna when I started going to the clubs showing off my passion for music and dancing ........ "The Queen of all Genres" !
Wow when this was released in Aug 1987 I had a such crush on D.S. and this was my favorite song as I'm starting the second grade Rip Beautiful Donna You can have dinner with Gershwin Heaven knows!
WOW!!! This is a real GEM of a song!!! I didn't know it until then. And she is SO CUTE! R.I.P my darling! Thank you for your WONDERFUL voice...thank you for making me dream whenever I listened to your reading of MC ARTHUR PARK since I was a child in 1978 until today!
Wow was this really the first time she ever appeared on Top Of The Pops? With all the hits she'd already had under her belt I'd have thought she'd have appeared on the show way before 1987!
It was her first performance on TOTP but not the first time she'd appeared in the studio. She was a guest at the end of the 6th January 1977 show having a quick chat with Kid Jensen and introducing the number 1. She had a record in the top 30 at the time (Winter Melody) but presumably didn't have a work permit to perform it. Probably just as well she didn't appear in the studio in her late 70s pomp as the musician's union rules at the time were that if solo performers or vocal groups didn't have their own backing band they would have to sing with the TOTP orchestra. Hearing some of the absolute monstrosities they turned out backing various soul/disco/reggae singers and groups it was perhaps a blessing!
@@thewesternwonderer9065 and, what i find interesting is that she would often refer to herself as an "ugly-duckling" through out her childhood into adolescence...she blossomed big-time into a very beautiful woman in her adulthood...the more she evolved through the years, the prettier she became! it was not via the "knife" either...her three daughters are stunners as well, yet, they are all very grounded, down- to-earth people like their Momma...
i saw her last performance before she passed coney island Brooklyn I love everything she ever made and she does not get the credit for how fantastic she was rip love to love you baby
Donna Summer looks like my ex girl friend watching this video makes me think of her i wanna cry it makes me think of how much i miss her and realize that she is the only one for me in my life
She might have a hard time convincing Rembrandt to let her watch him sketch. Even if you did have a time machine to take you back he probably wouldn't let you. Artists are notorious for not letting anybody see their work before it's finished.
What a *Cold Cold Cold Packed Faced* comment! Its obviously a fantasy. An alternate dimension. Maybe a means of time travel where she can travel back in time to meet these great heroes from the past.
@@sanchoodell6789 But even if she could travel back in time you'd have to admit she'd have a hard time convincing Rembrandt to let her watch him sketch. Artists are notorious for not letting anybody see their work before it's finished.

@acallender58 Unfortunately you're absolutely right!...This is an 80's Pop/Soul/R&B gem and ironically, I must add, very much alike to american Pop/R&B of the time! It's really sad because this type of situation still happens nowadays! I don't know why but americans seem to discard their own real black music foundation culture!...:-(
she might not be all that good at funk...but if u listen to this song... youll kind ofagree that it sounds a little like some disco...i think disci is what brought out the 80's sound...but i love this song too much
You couldn't get Donna played in our local gay clubs in the UK around this time because of all the 'Gods Punishment on Gays' nonsense .... strange how a year later all of her SAW hits were played in the gay clubs .. how shallow
God this is awful!!! Donna's biggest blunder was this album. It tanked as did her career, until she went back to her roots in 1989 with Another Place and Time.

Very beautiful, very unusual song. Just discovered it while looking through her discography; it deserved to be a much bigger hit than it was!
I've always thought that myself.
The record company stuffed it up didn’t promote it so she left them and went back to disco and stock aitken waterman

Glad to see she's not wearing that awful black tutu and leather jacket (for once) in this clip! And this is an impossible CD to acquire now.
Great song.....these were the days when people mimed on totp as donna summer is doing (not very good though!)
