William was the one who was telling Mikey to scare a crying child after Elizabeth's death because he was afraid of losing another child, but Mikey took the matter seriously. Also, William was the one who was putting sleeping devices that give bad dreams in a crying child's room to be attacked by monsters in a dream in order to scare him from the dolls that William was making. It is true that William was overly afraid for his children, except for Mikey because he was an adopted child and he did not pay much attention to him...
That's just a headcanon. Nothing realy proves that what you are saying is true also it's confirmed in the books that William doesn't care about any of his children (maybe just a litle).
