Today we're testing one of our sweetest theories ever! Can you make cookies from Cookie Dough Ice Cream? And if so, are they actually good? Well today, Steph and I put it to the test with a variety of different ice cream brands.

Fun note, I’ve heard the reason that Ben and Jerry’s had the most chunks is because one of them, I think Ben, has no sense of smell or at least very limited, so he prefers ice cream with more texture so he can enjoy it without having to be able to taste it as well
I love that Pillsbury knows enough people eat their cookie dough raw that they started making it actually pretty safe to do so.

Fun Fact: I went to a party in high school, and everyone needed to bring a dip. I decided to be different from everyone making chicken or salsa dip and I made a cookie dough dessert dip and had vanilla wafers as the “chips”. The dip ended up as one of the top 3 best dips out of everyone’s.

I still want to see a FOOD THEORY on: DOES CHICKEN SOUP ACTUALLY HELP HEAL A COLD?
yes it does help by heating you up
@@oldveryveryoldmanfromthe1900s but there might be a chemical with some sort of name like xananthatrillithide that is the cure for cancer or something
I've heard it does, partly from the steam and partly from knowing someone else wants you to get better (if someone is preparing it for you), but given that I doubt it would help you any more than other soups.
I mean I think it’s because it’s 1. An easily eaten food (its liquid and mush with chicken) 2. Fairly easy to make (broth, chicken, veggies, seasoning, done) 3. Full of nutrients (chicken is protein, mixed vegetables are vegetables) 4. It has a light flavor (saltines with stomach issues anyone?). Note: this is just my hypothesis, not fact in the slightest and is based on personal experience
they do scientific tests in a lot of their episodes so will Mat and Steph catch a cold for this episode
"Mat, why did you buy two of these?"
The look of genuine confusion... I see this look from my dad so often. Lol

For the 'magic of buying two of them'.
This video really highlights what I like most about this channel, the fact we get to see Mat and other members of Team Theorist just goofing around with food stuffs. Obviously their getting actual findings and doing actual experiments, but the energy given off in these videos is much more relaxed and feels like Team Theorist is bringing you into their home to talk about foods. Unlike the other channels (which i still absolutely adore so dont get the wrong idea) which both have much more of a presenter feeling where the fact cold hard facts are being given to you is really pushed to the forfront.
Don't get me wrong, I love all 3 theory channels regardless, but I have to be in a specific "learning" mood for the other channels, whereas it doesn't matter what mood im in im always happy to watch food theory.

It doesn't only "melt," there's another problem... imagine running a ball of bread dough under running water... you're going to wash a lot of the flour out of the dough. In fact, that's a method of isolating the gluten from flour, run a ball of dough under water until the starches are all washed away, leaving the gluten behind
Was looking for this. Thank you
It's actually not melting at all. The bits of cookie dough do remain solid at room temperature, but are very soft and the combination of water and sifting serves to break them apart.
They could have gotten all the dough a lot easier by simply emptying the tub onto a sieve to melt, maybe use a heat gun or blow drier if that's too slow.
Yeah, that was stupid and disgusting.

A good chunk of Bryer’s actually is not considered ice cream. According to the FDA, the amount of toppings in some of their flavors puts the proportions of milk and cream outside of the standards they have for calling something ice cream.
That's a fun fact worthy of a Food Theory episode! Bump!
What's it classified as then?!
@@SomeName_AlsoHandlesSucc it’s just classified as a frozen dessert.

Actually, for anyone who wants to know, it's actually really easy to make edible cookie dough that has no risk of getting you sick. The main two things you really have to worry about with the dough is salmonella from the eggs which can be removed entirely from the recipe (Remember back to the cake ingredients recipe, eggs are really only a binding agent to hold it together while it cooks, something you don't have to worry about if it's raw), and E. Coli from the flour. That is a bit harder to deal with, but all you do is put the flour you need on a cookie sheet and cook it in the oven at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes. After that you just combine all of the ingredients except eggs and voila, safe edible cookie dough.
Did you watch the video? They literally said that 1:34
@@SaltyMikan he was probably just writing it out so you could read instead of going back to the video and either way this helped
You could also just pasteurize the eggs and use them, too.

Good eats show, had an icecream episode. A big icecream co. Spokesperson was interviewed he said that cookie dough icecream can't really be baked with, as the traditional cookie ingredients would be affected when frozen for the time & temp. That icecream needs to be to keep icecream consistency. So it kept some of the cookie dough ingredients but they differ a bit to be proper icecream consistency
Watching these videos makes me so hungry.
It's worth noting that not all edible cookie dough has the egg removed. The temperature required to pasteurize an egg is lower than the point where it becomes solid, so some brands still use egg, just pasteurized egg, similarly to the flour. The resulting dough ends up having a different texture (a bit more grainy and less smooth usually) and will tend to spread out more in the oven.
Also, in other countries, raw eggs are considered salmonella safe and fine to consume.
@@silverdragonslair In the US they are completely safe as well, we actually pasteurize most store bought eggs. There is basically zero risk of eating eggs raw.
