This guy is so clear ahead of the other guys that came after the Big3. Good for tennis, finally someone with real potential.
Honestly he's the only post-big3 player who has the desire and motivation to be the best. Others, like Zverev and Medvedev, seem to be content winning just 1 grand slam. Medvedev's reaction after the AO final showed that he really didn't care that much about winning.

Tsitsipas, Zverev, Thiem and few others showed some hope but they failed to dominate the big 3 and lacked charisma as well ... Carlos has given some hope now and other young players will get motivated ... this is really good news for tennis.

Yep, Alcaraz is going to be a lot better than any of the current players in their twenties.
The best thing about Carlos is he doesn't hold back and is not afraid to pull the trigger when his shots are on. Even if he misses a couple, he keeps pulling the trigger, that's his belief in his game
What I like the most about Alcaraz is that He seems to be enjoying each point. This guy is playing at 100% without additional stress¡ Of course he's really focused on his matches, but he enjoys every one of them. Love that casual smile, as if he's just playing around
Those drop shots are mental. It is almost impossible to play him when you combine those perfect drops with such a massive forehand. I mean the fact that he wins every single point directly off the drop or after setting it up with the drop already shows how mentally destructive it is for the other player
It gets in your head. We had one at our club who mastered those dropshots as well. You just knew that in every frikkin' rally, that dropshot *could* come, but not always. Made you freak out mentally and often position yourself incorrectly in anticipation.
Exactly, the great thing is that he doesn't use drop shots to compensate for, lets say, his inability to play long rallies or a weak forehand or backhand, he simply has all the tools so even though he uses the drop shot a lot, it's still unpredictable
Yeah that is the thing. When you have a such a huge huge forehand and to be honest Alcaraz even has a pretty nuts backhand, the opponent just always has to be so far back whenever they are on the defensive. And just like Nadal, Alcaraz has excellent hands too and insane court coverage. All he needs now is his serve to be an all court weapon.

@@TheRabbitsaver the point is, he has the speed and the "intention", he lacks a better effectivity and placement. When he gets >75% of firsts in like today, he becomes really difficult to break through and it gives him such an important advantage. However, he's usually in the 60s% at best which is very inconsistent for a player that needs to be dominant. But, well, the thing is he's barely 19... If even Nadal had some periods of very good serving at his peak (USO 2013 and 2017 come to my mind), Carlitos who already has a very good speed can become a true monster
This guy is amazing, he makes everyone fall in love with his game and style. What a beautiful display of tennis, he can play every shot in the book close to perfection. Would love to see him keeping up this consistency in slams. I have found a new ATP favorite after Federer and Stan.
Want to see him play against Roger on grass and Medvedev on hard courts.

He's the best young player I've seen in years. As an aussie, I am just so happy to see great talent emerging as it has been a bit quiet in that regard for some years. There are some very good young players around but few great talents. Alcaraz already has the best drop shot I have ever seen in fifty years of watching tennis. I love how he uses it with a serve and volley approach. He has so many options.

Alcaraz murdered Zverev. And for all the people saying Carlito was going to be tired from the last two days or too tired to play Rome, just look at this performance. His level just keeps going up and he always peaks in the finals in tournaments (Killing Ruud, Careno Busta, and Zverev handily)
Let's remember he played 2 times 2 matches in a day in Barcelona. 3 hours and half semifinal and couple of hours after he went to the final destroying Busta

I was worried about his gas tank considering 3hr against Nadal on clay (alone a physical torture test) then a 3hr 34min match against Djokovic, all with a tweaked ankle, but he looked like he did 1st round in Barcelona.
I think he can Play well in Rome,but I think he should take a break, fully rest up and make sure his ankle and wrist are 100% cause I think he can win the French Open, even if he does face Nadal/Djokovic again
Zverev is essentially a cakewalk after the two slugfests he already went through. Probably felt like a practice match for this final

To put bluntly he's just better than players that were tipped to be the next big thing like Shapo and FAA. He's only just started his career and yet he's got more Masters than over 80% of active players.
This match went so quickly, these 7 minutes were more than 10% of the total match time. And Alcaraz took about twenty steps in the 7 minutes while he had Zverev running all over the court. Impressive stuff.
Honestly, I think Alcaraz found a hole in the tennis matrix, something similar to the fosbury flop technique in high jump. What he did is simply not possible with old tennis standards. He has created a new style of playing.

He's just taken some of the best parts of each of the big 3: Nadal's speed and determination, Djokovic's defense-to-offense and consistency, and Federer's aggression, touch, and shotmaking (we'll see if he can match those returns in the future), and combined them into one playstyle. It's a natural evolution for a young player to learn from the best parts of the elites that came before him, Alcaraz is just the first of the next gen (and the gen before that, lol) to do it really effectively. Now if he can just copy Federer's serve (not that his serve isn't pretty solid already) he'd be completely untouchable.
You’re right. This is very much reminiscent of when Federer became dominant. It was a whole new level that everybody had to adjust to.
Nadal reached Madrid masters 8 times and won 5 times actually which is big thing actually I am still not understanding how Federer have more of these titles

Zverev yesterday finished his semi final at 2.00 and went to bed at 4 in the morning, while Alcaraz playing his semi in the afternoon was nice rested and fresh. Alcaraz is very strong, no doubt. But unequal treatment for the two finalists and, at these levels, all this makes a lot of difference.
This guy is scary good. Nadal's fitness and fighting spirit, Djokovic's consistency and mental toughness, and Federer's creativity and aggression.

Hace un año tenía un gran futuro, a diferencia de sus casi contemporáneos Muzetti y Sinner. Durante este año, Alcaraz ha crecido mucho y sumado mentalmente. No quiero contarlo, pero si no hay lesiones importantes, Alcaraz ganó el título de primera raqueta -es solo cuestión de no hace mucho tiempo.

I have never seen someone always taking the Iniative at crucial moments like Alcaraz..It is at the most Pressure moments that He cms up with a masterful dropsht..He does not wait for his Opponent to make a mistake..
Actually crazy what Carlos does on court, pure joy to watch. First time I see such focus and hunger in the newer gen. If he won't lose it or fall prey to injury, we might see him dominanating in the next decade. Good luck with that!
There was much talk of the new generation who would take over from the top three : first it was Thiem, Tsitsipas and Zeverev, then Daniil Medvedev stepped in as the new challenger, but it could be that Carlos will bypass the lot of them.

I think it will be Djokovic, Nadal, Carlos and Tsitsipas, Medvedev and possibly Zverev (who is the weakest in slams never having beaten a top 10 player) who will compete for slams and the big titles. Maybe Thiem if he can get back to his top form. Then the rest of the top 10-20 like Sinner, FAA, Rublev, Berretini, Ruud, etc. who are currently just a notch below. Then you might see some new comers emerging too.
@@maimou We'll wait and see how it goes, but I think Carlos is a once in a generation type of player, and the fact that Roger, Rafa and Novak all did it together was highly unusual and will probably never be repeated. The only caveat will be to see how he copes with the additional demands of a grand slam tournament.

For me, the way he was hitting drop shot winners against Djokovic was unthinkable. He had already hit six unplayable drop shots that nole was helpless on. That's genius level touch. What hands Carlos has. He can suddenly hit a 100 mph shot off either wing followed by a 20 mph dropper. He can also drop shot off another powerful shot. His lobs on the dead run are precise and land close to the line and corners but with plenty of margin. It's a gift.
I think Carlos' dropshot strategy is the perfect antidote to power servers. Never mind backing you up, let's see you come IN.
Amazing Match from Alcaraz. Watching him play is absolutely breathtaking he is such a rare and raw talent with so much potential I can’t wait to see how successful his tennis career will be.

That bemused look and half smile from Ferrero as Carlos was a set and 4-1 up says it all really. This was a tennis clinic and Zverev was made to look like some part timer and not the wrold number 3. Incredible.
Carlos is so clutch already on big points and in big moments. That's the thing that sticks out already along with his unbelievable talent and skillset of course.

Gosh, how on earth does Alcaraz move so quickly? That forehand is vicious. He's just overwhelming.
It is so exciting to think that still he has room to improve!!! Serve (although that kick serve is really harmful) and too many unforced errors (not today, though) are the areas to improve for Carlitos, imo. If he gets those, cant think of anyone able to stop him dominate this decade

About one year ago I thought Sinner could be a game changer in ATP tennis, but no. Only Alcaraz is the one to compete with Nole and Nadal until he becomes the new World Number 1. The way he handles with pressure is outstanding. Watching him is different. Love him ❤️
There is something about Sinner I don't like.
Sinner was overhyped soo much imo. Pretty consistent but couldn't really win anything big. His skill ceiling wasn't and still isn't very high. Carlitos on the other hand is also very consistent but his level of play is much higher which allows him not just big tournament victories,but now,his level is at a point where he can win against the best of the best and is the favourite in basically every match albeit one or two matchups( like Rafa/Novak at GS)
However, it is very important that Sinner and others step up their game. If there’s a complete one-man dominion, tennis might become a bit predictable and boring. We need the rest of the guys to step up their game and keep Alcaraz on his toes.
I do think Sinner has potential, he just needs to get in shape, he looks frail, also he doesn't really construct points well, his saving grace is that violent forehand and a very Djokovic like backhand (stroke wise)
But now here comes Alcarez with a even more violent FH , fit like a Olympian and has scarey lvl of court smarts and focus for his age
I never really liked Sinner’s game. He is most of the times trying to overpower the opponent with crosscourt shots, and tends to get predictable after a point. Alcaraz on the other hand mixes it up so well that he was able to wrong foot two of the best anticipators in the sport.

He breaks their rhythm, you can clearly see that Zvere just does not know what will come back - he mixes drop shots into it perfectly and has superb legs to cover every inch of the court if needed! 🥳🙏 yes he looks bright!
This result doesn't surprise me one bit. He already defeated the 2 toughest players on clay in Nadal and Djokovic. This was a cake walk compared to those matches.

Un fenomeno assoluto..Avevo pronosticato Alcatraz tra i primi 5 alla fine del 2022 con una vittoria in uno dei grandi slam ma sta bruciando le tappe..Un giocatore fortissimo che non ha un difetto.Potente, velocissimo,fantasioso,micidiale nelle palle corte,una sensibilità nel tocco e una personalità in campo da veterano che rivela una solidità mentale eccezionale per un giocatore di 19 anni .Un predestinato che dominerà il tennis a lungo..Complimenti alla Spagna che dall'avvento di Nadal si è garantito 2 giocatori eccezionali per 30 anni..Sembra anche(come Nadal)una persona umile ed educata e per gli amanti del tennis , del bel gioco e dei valori è un bellissimo esempio!

I see Federer in Alcaraz. He just knows how to make all types of shots flawlessly. It's like he just plays around inside the court, and may look like he's not serious at all. The kid is relentless and does not fear taking any risks on his shots. This just shows how comfortable he is with the game and has mastered it at such a young age.
