    Idk if I agree with engaging with punch maybe I’m biased but I watch a lot of the top Asia dooms and almost all of them start with slam.

      Remember this is a guide for new players engaging with slam works in certain situations. Going past a tank to engage a support is an example.
      The issue is if you use slam to engage and don’t have top mechanics to secure the elim you have 7 seconds till you can slam out.
      Punch can escape but if an enemy walks in front of you it will block the punch. Also as said in vid you cannot take most high grounds without slam

      @@DoubleAAce Asia is a location not everything has to do with race. Asia is arguably the most competitive region for Overwatch.
      Hence why a big chunk of the OWL are Korean based players.

    I see a lot of new Doomfists try to fully charge each punch when they’re close to the target, a tip I can give is try to release your punch when it’s just below halfway, your main damage is going to come from Hand Cannon when you stun the punched target and charge doesn’t effect the stun. If it’s an empowered punch then try to go for a more charged punch but still, all that matters is if you hit the punched target into a wall, regardless of charge.

    A 4th is knowing what cooldowns you can deny and which can deny you.
    Sig grasp, Orisa spin (not fortified), Dva matrix, Rein barrier can all be stopped with a well timed punch, letting your teammates set up an ult or just a pick in general.

    Forgot to mention the ole Doomhog strat. Jump over a squishy who would like to keep their distance from your team with Slam, then rocket punch them back into your team's loving embrace

      @@leash8932 Unless they have CC it often results in block and a possible punch escape. Not really doable high level as they will body block you. Most reliable escape in such a situation is ult.

    Once you begin having more control over his punch a good way to engage is to slam then cancel immediately with punch, you will begin to charge your fist while moving towards where you were gonna slam at a very fast speed. Its very good for chokes that have environmental hazards like bridges since you can very quickly get in the enemies face to be able to line up a good pick or two. Just remember if you miss you'll go off the map since slam is on cooldown😅

      It's a nice way to engage highgrounds, especially considering it allows you to freely choose the angle. Imo, if you wanna engage on the ground, approaching from highground with a falling punch is better.

    Punching can get on highground. you just need to know the geometry of a map.

      @RauKnows Overwatch True, but the idea still works nonetheless. I've not fully mastered that kind of tech, but the height or distance that can be gained is noteworthy. The few times I've pulled it off it's worked quite well.

    diving isolated targets. a common misconception is to jump in whenever there's an opportunity, which is forcing the engage. better to soft or hard dive isolated targets ideally in your teams los so they follow up and force their team to peel.

    The slam is also better because enemies can get in the way of your punch to not let you escape while it's harder to block the path of your slam

    A big tip for doom is treat your ult as a get out of jail free card, not an engagement tool, I typically will play more aggressive if I have my ult because if I’m ever about to feed I’ll just use it to either get back to my team, or reposition for a following engagement.

    Actually, as someone who has lots of hours on doom you can usually find a sloped surface that can elevate you. If you start a punch and then jump while still going quick, you will go diagonally upwards in the way you were going

    In a simpler form
    1: If offence, try to make space via dealing with isolated targets or being a massive distraction so your team has a better chance at dealing with the enemy
    2: if defense deny space via being a pest or being a wall, be the thing they have to go through before getting to point
    3: use walls, your one of the lesser heathed tanks so you go down easily so use defensive things such as walls or rails to make you harder to hit
    4: practice cool down use, as shown in video
    Start with punch for starting combat, charge punch with block then use punch again to get elemenation
    (Remember all of this has a massive point of personal preference, this is just a basis for newer players, shape it to your personal play style)

      actually ,engaging with slam is better bcs it get you hp with how easy it is to hit multiple enemies , but with punch enemy can easily dodge or cc if you miss your punch ur pretty much dead, thats why slam is better

    This is actually pretty solid advice for new players. These 3 tips will get you far.
    When you get more advanced, I would try to do this:
    * Get good at getting guaranteed kills with empowered punch (walk forward after punch and spam left click), then immediately retreat
    * Cancelling slam with punch to get a lot of high ground
    * Cancelling most ultimates (deadeye, death blossom, coalesence, gravitic flux etc)
    * Jump cancelling your punches to trav further (works really well for fast disengages when your slam is not available)
    * Out of spawn rollouts (typically achieved with a good combination of punch jump cancelling + punch cancelling with slam, as well as "side ways punches". Look up guides). This stuff helps a lot on Overtime
    Then even more advanced:
    * Learn specific hero matchups, specifically enemy tanks (ignoring Orisas, counter punching doomfists to cancel blocks, avoiding counter pins on Reinhardt, baiting Zarya bubbles with punch, cancelling sigma's succ with punch)
    * Aerial mobility to take down Pharah/Echo and general DPS that likes to sit on high ground (requires knowing when you cancel slam into punch)
    * Punching enemies into your team
    * Punching enemies off of high ground
    * Diagonal punches. Situational, but catches enemies off guard.

    The punch can be used to gain high ground but you have to hit certain points on the maps at an angle. This is inconsistent if you are just starting to learn doom.

    Honestly for new players, this is best, it allows them to learn how each of their abilities matter and teaches then cycling, later on it’s great to use punch when fully charged followed with a slam if you wish to try and finish off a team, but always try to keep some amount of distance to meep a corner that you can play around :)

    Doom main here
    start with slam if your supports and dps are grouped up with you,never continue going in with punch. This is because you're gonna need to make use of his mobility tech on punch,this is using the punch and then pressing jump near the end of the punch-what this does is that it gives you a boost to wherever you're going to. If you can master this trick then you can use it to change direction.
    Punching is purely for disposition,escape,or pushing someone into a fall zone.
    Empowered punch is the important aspect here. You need to learn how to use this to create the most impact. Full charge EMP punch does 125 damage plus a 0.75s stun,is faster,and goes further. You can hold onto it but it's up to you which situation you deem is fit for it,example a genji diving in with nanoblade? Use it.
    on attack or control-always head to the back with a flank or just diving right in and have your dps lay it on the tank. On defense? Never push out past payload,this is where your supports can't realistically help you and your dps won't venture out there for basically nothing. Your passive helps but only if the situation allows it to,hence why you slam first (get 50 damage spread,get back 35 temp hp. Assuming the slam works,that's 35×5 = 175 extra hp. Always go for collateral damage with slam,you don't need to engage with it all the time,you do need to get the hp up though.)
    Last bit,The IMPORTANT bit. You are going to get robbed more times than not. This is because tankfist is heavily plagued with bugs that are easy to appear and heavily destroy his existence. There is a spread sheet of doomfist bugs and there's 35 total with a majority of them literally being broken(as in doom doesn't work correctly). So be ready to encounter these bugs at the worst moments and in general moments,your slam might not actually hit sometimes when it's supposed to. Please do not look over this part before you decide to play doomfist.

      He’s solid on some control maps but maps with high like el dorado he does well.
      Basically any maps the have hallways, high ground or short lines of sight do well

      Lijang Tower is nice cause there's multiple spots for consistent environmental kills. Knocking people off ledges and keeping slam in case you miss and fly off is almost always a good idea.

    Pretty much, go in with slam and run away with it, your primary isn’t your gun but your left trigger, and your primary is more for finishing off and baiting people to shoot you

    Engaging with punch is super bad unless they’re all grouped up and you can get a AOE punch. Use slam to get in and get a lot of damage quickly, building ult. Using slam to DISENGAGE is when you’ve used E-punch and gotten a pick already. Only engage with punch if you’re look to get a kill or you’re denying space. Use slam engage almost always if possible, unless you’re in a very vertical map. Another reason engaging with spam is super nice is because if you get hit with CC, you can cover infinitely more ground with punch than you can with a no momentum slam. Being able to super punch (not empowered punch) away from enemies after you’ve been slept or hindered is HUGE vs a slam where you both move slowly and are very predictable for being shot in the air.
    Punch CAN indeed give you high ground, in fact, if you can get to high ground via punch, do it since you can slam out and use verticality. This is when slam is good to disengage with since you can use the verticality. Generally, you’ll be using a diag punch to gain verticality if the other team id above and using an ultimate you’d like to cancel, you have empowered, or you want to rush in with a high speed vs slam in at a slower speed.
    A big issue with your description of doom ability cycling is it’s a lot more complex than that. Simply cycling punch block punch is almost all doom counters can cancel your block and isolate you entirely from your team via no movement. Baiting cooldowns is the 1# most useful new doom habit rip, considering you won’t be able to climb out of silver without it. Even down in bronze-silver, people can generally understand how cc works even if they’re casual. Try hards who just suck will be able to swap orisa and bully the low rank doom. In high ranks (which isn’t important rn since this is for new dooms) baiting is HUGE since you can’t engage without it

    I love how he used a clip of him absorbing damage from Orisa' cannon to make his point. No, Orisa ever let's me just sit there and absorb damage to get a full charge. If I tried that irl I would most certainly get a javelin to the face. Unrealistic af!😂

    engaging with slam typically works out better. I think you're just overestimating the value of two rocket punches. plus if you don't get empowered punch you're left with no block and no punch. basically a free kill and you'll just end up feeding

    i guess this is for people who are very new to doomfist.
    As you get better you almost always want to engage with slam, maybe a stair-slam or a head-slam to land faster, hit a couple of shots, block and either repeat or punch out. my advice is to learn as much tech as possible and getting consistent results with it, especially animation cancels.
    He has a stupid high skill floor so as an absolute beginner you won't be doing much, you just need to accept that and strive. you'll get better with time

      When you start to get better with cycling your CDs and use your tech you can get creative with them and engage faster to get maximum burst damage. Learn diagonal/downwards punch to surprise the enemy or escape out unpredictably.
      also PUNCH YOUR ENEMIES TO A WALL, it's probably the single most important thing to do when engaging

      You're suppose to Slam and Punch out. Punching in isn't really that reliable MOST of the time, I disagree with this video a little. I'm a Diamond Doom btw.

    I think you should you slam all the time you got it if you are not planning on going in aggressive. It is good pock damage and it build up your ult charge more and you get more over HP. But yes if you going to go hard in then push first ofc is better. But I feel like you want to use your first push to get in and try to make them miss the cooldowns or punch someone out of positions and force cooldowns then get a impower punch then slam out then go hard in with impower punch. So you got first a soft to make them use cooldown then hard in with impower punch on a target that is off place or push the enemy back

    Trying to charge a punch after a block is most likely going to get you killed, usually if you're holding a choke you want to engage with slam so you get more shields and pressure more enemies with the flat 50(?) Damage while saving punch to get behind cover or confirm a kill

    Punch then jump at the end of animation sends u fly with momentum and if u slam after jump your basically a rocket also slam up in the sky then immediately guard the s you flying up with momentum and you can charge punch ta get away from dangerous plays like u surrounded

    Start with slam it hits multiple enmies and charges ult faster also should mention u shouldnt be over agressive until u have ur ult as doom and zen have only 2 ults in the game that make thier character invulnerable

    As an ow1 player I don't agree a lot with your advice on using punch to engage since slam can gain more value thanks to it's aoe plus you can follow with punch immediately to make space more effectively then reset punch with block and after block you can slam away with an empowered fist for when you can gain more value so i would kinda use slam more than punch to engage

    And I still dont get how this mofo is a tank... because theres 2 type of doomfist a shit one and a good one, because theres only one tank role you have to make it count because your team rely on you withou having a tank especially when they fight orisa

    I don't find this quite helpful.
    1. Slam is your friend. Use it around corners and learn to "poke" with it. You want to hit multiple enemies with slam to build up ult and damage multiple enemies so supports have to spend resources to heal. This is why you "poke" with it.
    2. Punch to escape after slamming in OR block to absorb damage but don't engage until you poke down enemies to mid health or low health if you can. Usually punch to escape because CC can knock you out of block (hack, Javelin, etc.)
    3. Use your ult to escape, chase, or reset cooldowns. You don't generally ult for kills. You can secure kills easily with your basic kit. You only should ult to kill if you can confirm the kill but mostly use it as a tool to reset your CDs and engage again in the fight.
    4. Mix your melee between shots. You generally should be close enough unless they dash away, so engage and mix melee between firing. You'll up your DPS

    I just want old doom fist there’s nearly nothing he can do to flying players. Not even a great tank can give shields like junker queen and can’t self sustain like roadhog

    Remember to avoid all stuns somehow while simultaneously getting a time machine to go back to OW1 where doom was playable

    Honestly i feel they have ruined doom in arcade and open.They have removed 150 health(he is back to 300, bastion has the same health) he is kinda the same as old doom in overwatch 1 just they have made him weaker and changed his abilities to weaker variants(do remember this is my opinion)

    These seem like generally not good tips. 1. U should be front lining as a tank
    2. The example given was awful considering it was an orisa and they could’ve just pushed around the corner

    With the current meta the best advice is to go in spawn press H and click on a different lit up portrait.

    As a Doom main since i started playing these tips are great for beginners. Not so much for me though but the best tio for Doom is actually to press H in spawn and switch to any other tank then Doom bc he is literally the worst he has ever been

    The tips are good, however it's hard to say what order to cycle cooldowns in on doom, as the truth is you have to change the order depending one who is on the enemy team and what cooldowns are up, if they have an Ana, punch block slam is risky because she can sleep you in block and if you punch engaged you will most likely be past the choke or in it, both being hard positions for teammates to help you in, so consider if you keep engaging engaging punch and getting cc'd or killed try to stall slam or slam at choke to build shield, or charge punch then cancel it into block to get super punch

    Man I had a doom fist as my tank not to long ago, and while he was blind rushing the enemies on both attack and defense in competitive payload he saw me a Lucio named lucky and said “for someone named lucky you sure are unlucky.” And I only had a little above 4,000 healing, but trying to keep doom fist alive when he runs away from the team while I’m a Lucio isn’t the easiest thing to do (we also had a Moira with 18,000 healing) so I just told him that I was unlucky for getting a tank like him.

    I disagree with all of this. The best tip for playing Doomfist, is not to play Doomfist.
