My mom was a model in the 1950's she modeled for DIOR in Paris...She thought Errol Flynn was the most handsome man( sorry dad) she ever saw. I used to watch those old movies with her my favorite was charge of the light brigade.
That is absolutely the coolest thing ever!
In like Flynn, indeed.
He was FINE!!!!
My grandmother loved him. My favorite is Ivanhoe ❤
@@elaniecardenas1544 Robert Taylor was in Ivanhoe.
Ok so I was the security guard that was on the property before they opened up the canyon. They were drilling for oil in 1992-1994. His house had tree going through the middle of it. It was up on the ridge and the tree at that time was not doing to well. There was not much of the foundation left. Down below were bungalows and those are the foundations you see. Yes part of the tennis court and pool can be found, but you need to know where to look. We also had the plans of what used to be there. I worked for Westec Security if anyone remembers and we had most of the properties and land lots in Hollywood. We used to have all the famous people in the area and know most of the history of the area. I even know where they moved Errol Flynn because of the crazy young chick that used to dance on his grave at Forest Lawn.
That is so cool!! Thank you for sharing!!
I had just come from London in 1991 and lived on Poinsettia. My boyfriend took me to for a hike up to Runyon Cyn and i rarely saw another person there as it was closed with a " No tresspassing" fence up ( ha!) ( with a small hole to crawl through)
I used to walk up there every day, and I sat on the rock overlooking the city and read. I watched the city burning as the L.A. Riots exploded. Helicopters and smoke circling like a scene from a movie.
I moved away after a year but always remember my time exploring that beautiful old estate as a great memory of my beginning life on L. A.
Crazy young chick that’s used to dance on his grave !??? 😮
I took acid there numerous times in the late 80s. Seems the house part is gone.
Just beyond the tennis courts is a small Vista where the pool was. There’s a little bit of evidence of it now. In the 80s it was an abandoned pool, and Runon Canyon was terrifying because of all the punk rock visitors at night. I was a teen who lived up off Mulholland, and spent many an afternoon exploring the hills.
Thank you for sharing your story!
Yeah, last time I was there the pool was still there... covered with graffiti and half-filled with trash. @@Kyle_Hester
I remember seeing that too. Crazy times
ooooh scary punk rockers...LOL
I was a scary punk, but there were criminals and homeless living in tents all over up there. A friend took us on a walk up there one night after clubbing, saw the fireplace in the dark, heard a gun cock from a nearby tent. We decided that was enough tour, and got the f out of there.
Sure, it's just a bunch of stones and dirt- but one can feel the history and legay of ol' Hollywood(land) even watching this video. Thanks for taking us around.
Thank you for checking it out!
Cheers!
I love old Hollywood history.
Thank you so much! I am going up to Lake Hollywood today!
Hello 👋 my hiking friend, thank you for the guided tour. I didn't get tired at all. Greetings from Northern California. All the best to you. Stay safe out there. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
This channel 🎉rocks !
YOU rock!!
Another great video. Be safe and careful.😊👍🙏
Thank you so much!
Never been there in my life. Thanks for taking me there in your video.😊👍
What a trek! Thanks for a great tour!
Glad you enjoyed it!
VERY COOL AND WORTH THE WALK!
Thank you so much!
I remember hiking that every week with my mother 1988-1989. We only lived 2 blocks away from one of the entrances. I remember the swimming pool had graffiti all over it and I went down in it, And the floor to the original house was still visible and was checkered/mosiac.
Such a wild place!!
@@Kyle_Hester we lived on Franklin Ave. It looks more built up now. I remember the nearest entrance had an old cabin that went up the hill.
Very interesting. So the first ruins you came to was Errol Flynn’s pool house and the second ruins was the main house? And the tennis court was part of the same estate? Great video! Just found this.
Destiny not Dust. Always loved Flynn’s great movies during his glory days. Was sad to discover he was such a Waster. Just my opinion…bittersweet. His roles didn’t reflect his private life…
Loved the tour. Great to see you❤️
Thank you so much for your support my friend +
Thank you! That was fun!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I enjoyed the hike, thanks for taking me along via video. Will definitely follow and support!
You are awesome!! Thank you Cindy!
Totally awesome 💯😎 thanks 👍 for making this ! Happy holidays 🎊⛄🎉
Happy holidays!
I'm not sure if this is the same location ofErrol Flynn house that afterwards The Ricky Nelson family lived but Gunnar Nelson recently did an interview & showed a few pictures of this home that was white with small pane windows throughout & he said it was in a deserted area!
I don't know. He did live in a few places . Hmmmmm
You mean the Mulholland Farm on Mulholland Drive. If this place is the Mulholland Drive then it´s the place of that house.
Enjoyed this
Thank you so much!!
A great trail walk tour. Am sure when Errol Flynn was on site, there was much enjoyment & pleasures to be experienced. No Mountain Lion's & Rattle Snakes makes a trail walk enjoyed. always, Tommy🤠
Love Errol Flynn
I think this is was featured in the 1983 feature film “ Breathless”. It starred Richard Gere as the main character. His character even mentions that the property was once occupied by Errol Flynn. His character is on the lamb and spends the night with his GF. There is a pretty cool scene at night with two people fighting with light sabers on the foundation. Back then the entire area and front gates was heavily graffitied up. Thanks for the video 👍🏻👍🏻 FYI : Breathless 1983 is a remake of the Jean-Luc Goddard French New Wave Classic Film of the same name. It was made in 1963 and shot in black and white.
That is very cool! Thank you for the information!
Lam, not Lamb
Which of course could easily have researched before someone makes a video about it….. I mean to me, if someone makes a video about a place, saying “Erol Flynn was here, cool huh?” And “a lot of people visited here but I don’t know who” that is not a video I would give a thumbs up. There are better researched videos to pretty much everything out there. Sorry.
Thank you for sharing it's helpful to know were to go hiking etc same time Erroll Flynn was great actor and he is God bless all
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Being a Runyon I know this hike very well…. It’s beautiful and not easy💕
You are so right! Lol Awesome!
Lol, shoes are important. I almost left the house in my slippers last week.
I think the breathless 1983 🎥🍿 movie was filmed there too !
Glad you liked it my friend! Thank you!
Good movie...Jerry Lee! 😮
I like your garage Kyle, no clutter.
Lol! Many thanks!
My Mom used to say my Dad looked like Errol Flynn & yes he did.
Handsome man!
Then your dad was good looking! 😮
I used to hike there when I lived there late 80s....I broke my leg in 2 places going too fast down a hill...I rem the old pool and marble like foundations from pool house remains
Oh no! The broken leg part is awful!!
Go down a hill sideways!
Hey thank You Kyle for sharing another piece of forlorn HOLLYWOOD LAND I love to have been born in Flynn’s Day. I’d be right there partying with them. Sadly many iconic places and people Fading rapidly in LaLa Land. I am looking from Birds Eye view in gps and the street views are fun to follow up without the physicality behind it. Kudos for doing it for us. It looks strenuous specially when I saw the man carrying the dog down the hill after.
Glad you enjoyed it! Check out my secret stairs video. I think you will like it!
Errol Flynn got around! He and David Niven had some wild times on Linden! Swashbucklers get the girls!
Also true! Lol
Not as crazy as his times with John Barrymore.
Rock on, Errol! 😎
Great video! I never actually managed to check this area out in all my years there. This was super cool to see.
Next time you are here!!
I've been to Runyon Canyon park many times with a friend who used to walk his dog there. When the dog died and was cremated he spread the ashes in the area of those old foundations. I never realized Errol Flynn once lived there.
That is a nice thing to do. Very cool
I enjoyed watching this video ... yet ... felt very sad doing so as i remember when i was Very young perhaps fifty (plus) years ago
when i wandered around this area and the structures were still standing though in disrepair and basically shut down. As were
many of the old Movie Stars old homes. Which was very sad. Actually, i lived in the old Hollywood area and from my apartments
kitchen window i could see Paula Negrea's (not sure of the spelling of her last name) home which was an impressive tasteful
brick house. But my favorite home was Charlton Heston's home which was dare i say quiet interesting t look at.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I am glad you enjoyed it!
Progress? Boring!
He only stayed there from 57-58. He lost his house to alimony. He was pretty much partied out by then and he died a year later a broken man, that’s the sad end note. He was probably there alone thinking about by gone days.
The house Flynn lost to alimony was an 11.5 acre property with a large house and a barn approximately a mile further west of
Runyon Canyon park just off Mulholland Blvd. Flynn bought the larger property after becoming a well established movie star and was know for hosting legendary wild Hollywood parties there1950's. Actor and singer Rick Nelson bought the property but sold it in the 1980's to land developers when his marriage broke up. They tore down the original house, subdivided the 11.5 acres into 7 individual lots. Justin Timberlake now owns the house that sits on the approximate location where Errol Flynn's house was once located.
Totally enjoyed this… now subscribed!
Awesome! Thank you!
There were some ruins off of Argyle too. Old pool and tennis courts we hiked up there at nifgt to see Hollywood.
Hmmmmm. Do tell! Where?
A scene in 1983's Breathless with Richard Gere was filmed there before the houses demolition.
I clicked like & subscribed because I was feeling your pain. 😅
Lol!! Thank you for your support!
So sorry to see the home is not there anymore.😢
Sic Gloria Transit. Flynn lives on! 😎
Wow, that is just amazing and cool.
Thank you so much for checking it out!
Thank you for your hard work. I wish I could be there!
I’d be watching out for Mountain lions hiking up there
Too many people but I hear you !
The only Flynn houses I knew about were 601 North Linden Drive in Beverly Hills, rented by Flynn and David Niven in the 1930's, when they were both single; a beach cottage rented from Marion Davies at Santa Monica (now torn down;) and the one he built in 1940 on Torreyson Place, just off Mulholland Drive, overlooking the Valley. That one got torn down about 30 years ago and there is a boring housing development there now. A street is called Flynn Ranch Road. That is the only remaining trace of what happened there. That is the one where wild parties and cockfights happened. Flynn lost that house to Lili Damita in the late 1950's. Did he live in this Runyon Canyon place after he lost Mulholland House? I have only read that he lived on his boat, the Zaca, after that. For awhile his friend Doris Duke let him stay in a house, but I thought that was on Doheny Drive. This Runyon Canyon place is news to me. Who owns the property now and who did then, if you know? Thanks.
I believe the city owns the land now. It is a big hiking area.
As far as when, I believe it was after he lost the house like you said.
@@Kyle_Hester I may have seen a photo of Flynn next to the swimming pool at the Runyon Canyon place. It is in the book "Hollywood Babylon II" by Kenneth Anger, and it is a terrible photo, but then Kenneth Anger was a terrible man. A teenage girl is on Flynn's back, playing horsie. It isn't Beverly Aadland, but I mention it because it may have been taken at this house.
Neato! 👌💥
Thank you for watching!!
A Thorshammer 🏆👍
Absolutely my friend
@@Kyle_Hester Did not see lots of them during my time in Cali...not many here in Sweden either sadly...
We are all over the place. Some just don't wear it like I do.
This saddens me 😢
GREAT VIDEO....THANKS. Was this Flynn location part of his Mulholland Farm or a completely different spot. I don't know LA too well.
This is a different spot. In Hollywood proper. Thank you for your support!
Back in 80s ....teens...trespass......covered with brushes.....dark.....pool....lots broken glass....tennis courts....sprayed painted.....welcome to the gates of hell.....scary during the night
Were you there at night too?
Thanks Kyle. You think many people know about Flynn or his old digs ?
Probably not. Lol They just walk through the ruins
Errol was a real cad.
Yeah but he's a legend.
And cavalier.
But knew how to live...😎
You're a very likeable, personable guy...how you get a zillion subs! ☺
Wow, thank you! I have been trying to get this channel off the ground fir 3 years. I finally feel like they are shiny videos. :) Just keep going!!
None of that was Errol Flynn's house or property. He briefly lived in the pool house of George Headley, a friend of George Huntington Hartford II who owned the land in the canyon and had a big house at the top. Headley’s house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Your video cuts out just before you were about to reach where the house, pool, and pool house were where Flynn briefly stayed. (just above the tennis court remnants you visited.)
Thank you for watching it! Good information!
Oh, no! They tore down a Frank Lloyd Wright house?!?
@@muck4227 The pool house that Lloyd Wright (Frank’s son) built burned down in the huge Runyon Canyon fire in 1972. The Frank Lloyd Wright house still stands behind fences at the top of the canyon.
Wasn't a scene from American Gigolo filmed there?
Hmmmm. Research to be done!
Richard Gere mentions that Errol was his hero in that movie.
There is a picture online of the intact house
Very cool!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Who's place was that with the fireplace?
I am actually not sure. Maybe another cottage?
@@Kyle_Hester cool. Was that property owned by Errol Flynn?
No. He stayed in the pool house after he list his housing the divorce.
@@Kyle_Hester 😢
Great video! Just curious, was the first ruins you came to the Pool house and the second ruins the main house? And the tennis court was all part of the estate?
All the same estate. Crazy huh?!
@@Kyle_Hester I just found some pictures online of the pool house and swimming pool from December 1957, with Errol Flynn standing there and what must be his 10 year old daughter Rory and ex wife. Very interesting story behind the owner of the estate and how he tried to donate it to the city but they didn’t want it.
Where Vista St ends (1900 Vista) is the Sheryl Crow estate.
Oh very cool!!
Wonder how the state/city acquired this property? Tax extortion?
I have no idea
How did he climb all the way up there. Where did he park his car?
The path I walk up was a road at one point.
I am guessing that before that area became a park it was full of homes ? When did it become a park ?
It became a park in 1984
Found some info on the property:
Irish tenor John McCormack bought the property from coal baron Carman Runyon who used the sites for hunting and riding. Thus, the riding arena seen on earlier aerial photos.
McCormack buikt the huge mansion in 1929. A&P heur. Huntington Hartford bought it in 1942, he renaned it The Pines.
He commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to build a poolhouse. Hartford's frequent guest was Flynn at the poolhouse and threw wild parties. In 53, Flynn left the country to avoid oaying back taxes and alimony. His first wife got the 7740 Mulholland Drive property.
This was NOT his house !! It was Hartford's home. Flynn's house was up on 7740 Mulholland Drive, a few miles away.
Jukes Bernan, a liquer importer bought the property The Pines, and tore it down. The poolhouse later burned down in 1972.
Again, this is NOT Errol Flynn's house. He only visited Hartford abd stayed in the poolhouse.
There are 7 houses on Flynn Ranch Road and 7740 Mulholland Drive.
Nothing remains of Errol Flynn's Mulholland Farms. No trace other than a road named for him.
Edit: the round, stone looking thing was actually remnents of a fish pond/fountain. Check Historic Hollywood Photographs- images 196-201.
There is also a picture of McCormack, his wife and his daughter on the front door steps that still remain to this day !! (Image 200)
Very cool!!
Thanks for the info.
action hero Flynn was here looks like ancient ruins, burned down or what?
Ozymandias😮
Yes destroyed by fire is what I heard.
What memories! 😮
Just to add for the sake of clarity, what was left of 'The Pines' was destroyed by a wildfire in 1972. A number of photos from after the fire can be found on the internet.
Thank you for sharing!
Why wasn't this iconic home taken care of?
That is a good question
I always loved Hollywood history of classic stars homes
The address was 7740 Mulholland Dr. Sold in '59 to Ricky Nelson, then after Nelson died, sold to a developer and tore the house down
Why would someone put the tennis courts so far away and hard to hike to from the house???
I think their was more property up there
I felt an urge to cry as i watched this. About thirty five years ago i was living in LA.
And of course i wanted to see as many movie stars homes as possible.
And this was one of them. The building was still standing (sorta) but much of
it had collapsed and the grounds were a total disaster. To be honest you had to
sneak in to the grounds to see them as the gate still stood (sorta). I remember
my feelings of total sadness. As i walked around. As it was a disaster then.
Yet much of it was still standing (sorta). For some reason just now i felt the same
sadness i felt back then. Actually it was not the "ONLY" hollywood mansion in total
disrepair. But i will spare You the details. And just end with hollywood was so
disgusting.
That after a few months i decided to just get out of that ever so EVIL City !!!
And left ... NEVER... go back again !!!
Thank you for checking it out!
Hello, Thank You for a somewhat surprising message BUT i fear i am
way to old to be hiking around up there. Sorry Jeff
Do people in California worry about Rattle snakes?
They are certainly here in the desert areas. They should be careful!
I like your content but you should have shown before and after photos. You can find photos of what the property looked like back in the late 1950's on Google. It would bring your content to the next level. Do your research. So That way the lazy people who are curious of what it looked like don't have to. It would only improve your content .
That is a great idea! Thank you for checking it out. :)
1900 is Cheryl Crow's house
Which street is that? Very cool!
Everything connected to Errol ended up in ruins!
Was her name Joi?
I actually don't know. Thank you for supporting!
If I click thumbs up to keep you alive, what happens if I click thumbs down. Just wondering.
That just means you don't like the video. Thank you for checking it out!
Walking around modern ruins because Errol Flynn was there... OK
Great place to hike too! :)
I would have loved to have done that with friends. Did it by myself in the mid seventies after I read his book.
Kyle, Errol Flynn owned all that property?
No that was his friend's property. I forget who at the moment. Lol
Use ariel photos
Lots of womanizing went on at that place.
😄😁😆😅🤣😂
You walked all that way for that ?
It is an awesome hike! :)
Spider web pool he made a spider web pool
Really? That is awesome!
What a shame.
No doubt
