I have been a professional installer of outside wood boilers for the last Ten years, and you are the first person I have seen with common sense enough to place your circulators in the house. Not only are they easier to work on, but it provides greater head pressure for the circulators to work with. You will get better flow by doing it this way, in my opinion. You did a pretty nice job..
Top notch work here. I plan on building a similar system one of these days. I heat with a small indoor wood stove and I'm tired of all the ashes & mess and the carrying of firewood. Once again, great work.
You are so right about the circulating pumps being inside just in case you need to replace one in bad weather. In the 80s we had to change an outside pump at 3:00am and it was nine below zero Fahrenheit. NOT TOO GOOD!!!
Very nice set up. A sketch of the wood burner fire box would add icing to the cake. The water to air radiators information would be great. Your heat losses are very acceptable. The transfer pumps is your $$ energy users. I have a couple of 500-600 gal ? Propane tanks that would make great fire boxes. The rectangular structure would require some creativity. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely Bad Ass as they get great design great presentation video I have it on my favorites bar and watch it every month or so just to realize energy can be affordable if you have the knowledge and of course the skills to put it all together. Great job really enjoyed the vid.
i just wanted to say, it's really great work...i'm looking into building one of these for my father in laws house...i probably wont do forced air..ill probably do hydronic floor heat in cement. for 3000 you did great.. i'm shooting a little smaller and the same price range..i have to say it again, excellent work..
Excellent video. Your project is outstanding!! I don't know why there aren't more comments, but this is A1 perfect build and install. Should contract yourself out for your own furnace boiler company. Any other projects to add? And thanks again for taking the time to see a great project!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that is the make an outdoor boiler. You did a great job of insulating the outside of the the boiler. Can''t say that for the HeatMaster, the whole back of the water jacket is not insulated. They depend on the outside door to keep it insulated. When you open the back door, you can tell that you are loosing a lot of heat in the water. Nice job. Wish I had done this instead of buying a $10,000 boiler. I did insulate the back of the boiler and it does help, but not like you did with the spray insulation.
Wow man, i thoroughly enjoyed this video, top dollar outdoor boilers 10,000 dollars or more on average that hold half the amount of water your does, with a firebox half the size, nice effin work man. Id like to do something similar in the not to distant future and it'd be great if you'd be available for a couple questions at your leisure. Take care, excellent build.
excellent job. I'm getting ready to build one myself. Would be interested more on how your exhaust is routed and how the pipes come thru the firebox. Couldn't tell (too dark) looking inside firebox
I’ve been a boiler tech over 20 years, nice setup, but you really should have a pressure relief somewhere on the boiler tank, it may never go off but its a good precaution (probably a 60lb)
Nicely done! I have a Shaver wood boiler, and I wish Id done what you did and built my own...You saved a lot of money.I especially like your secondary exvchanger above the wood boiler to get a second pass and catch some more heat before it goes out the chinmey....
I want to say awesome job on your set up.I am in the design stage of my boiler right now.I have been planning the exact same thing you have done.I plan to use a heat exchanger in my furnace and then my 40x44 shop has radiant tube in the floor. I appluad the nice clean job you did on your system
@@yevhenrekhtin6591 I agree I am looking into building something like this but using the wood gas to power a motor that uses the water pump on the motor for circulation purposes and also the motor runs an alternator in the front with the drive belt and possibly powers a generator that can power my home or at least supplement my power. I am in the design phase and without buying an expensive industrial welder generator. I am looking for an easy way to design a powerful 4500 to 5000 watt generator. I have quite a bit of 10/4 and 12/4 wire to make it of but not sure if I should spend a small fortune on magnets or try to design an electromagnet generator and use the alternator on the motor to actuate it?
Nice job. What do you do for a living. Your obviously very handy and knowledgable. A video explaining how you built this would be nice. 78 degree's in the garage is awesome. Congrat's
The best !! I've got a cb system. To all note: no matter how much she costs it just takes a lil longer to get the pay back. My investment was about 8 k but only took 3-4 years to b all free. Now 10 yo so go figure. Only problem is the new EPA crap you'll have to deal with. I would love to have my next one made like u.
I work at John Deere and I took home an s790 the other day to farm with cuz I figured they didn’t really need it there at work, it was just a leftover.
Where are u located and how much wood do you burn?. I"m in Northern Minn. I also have a outside wood burner and currently burn 15 cords. It heats my domestic water, chicken-coop, dog kennel and my 3100 sq ft. home. My wood stove is 96 feet from the house. I lose 7 degrees to the house. lines are buried 8 ft down. Love your system.
Great video! Thanks for posting. I'd be interested to see any pictures you took of the build process, the boiler, specifically. Did you use stainless or mild steel for the tank sides? How how is the exhaust coming from the chimney (how efficiently are you transferring heat from your fire into the water in the tank)? Again, outstanding job!
I enjoyed it but I have a question is the water heater hooked into your home water like your shower and such also or? I guess what I am asking is it a pressurized system?
Hello there what type off tubes U use from the stove to the home are they insulated and how deep are they. very nice system you build greetings from belgium.
Does the cost of $3334 include the cost of the red furnace in your garage too? Also, is that a special water heater that has a heat exchanger inside or can you do that with a normal water heater? Thanks! Great system. Thank you for posting this!
Very nice work! You lost me though @ 6:35 talking about your water heater... Is the water from your outdoor boiler heating your water heater? Great video man, Great details, I have to ask, just how much wood you go thought in a month, when its winter, and Your heat exchanger /radiator, is it homemade as well, i have a furnace i want to put this system in, but have no idea of what the heat exchanger looks like and etc, can you email me a few details on it or a link to one?
Would you be willing to share the plans? I have watched this several times and would like to build one. Are there any changes that you would make now? Jim

You were very thorough in explaining and it will probably spark a few more diy ers to get on board with alternative heating. Good job!

I got a used propane tank, I was going to make a submarine out of it, but this seems like a fair alternative, since it can be pressurized.
This was a very concise video. You did a great job on the outdoor wood-burner and just as good of a job demonstrating it. Thumbs up. Great video.
This is what i love about the USA there is people who can really turn their hand to any job and do it well.

Terence Krebs as a plumber an also a first time viewer of these types of boilers I agree 100%. Just for peace of mind
The boiler tank is likely vented to atmosphere. He mentions in the video he consumes 4.5 gallons of water every six weeks.

Thanks, enjoyed it. Maybe you could make another one that goes more in-depth? Maybe show how you build it? Thanks again!
Great system, thanks for sharing! I just bought a $5k wood boiler, now I start to doubt if I shoulda built it myself.
For 5grand I'm guessing you would have rather made 10 of them.
We need more brave, inventive guys like you. It's been ten years since you posted. An update would sure be nice.
He's a sweet man.
I'm not your father, but after watching this vid I just feel like saying: "Son, I'm so proud of you".
I would have loved to see from start to finish, awesome setup.
EXCELLENT system!!
thanks for showing it.
Looks like this was posted in 2009, how is this system doing today. 1-9-17? And do you have the same hair dew?
No second burn chamber, no full combustion at all..... sorry but it's wasting of wood with boilers like this one

Everything else it's mess sorry

nice job. you are one smart guy.
Fantastic Job Brother,Very Impressive Cheap Wood Heating System

Wolfman jack lives.... Now I gotta drive the 57 Chevy tomorrow...
i dont know whats better.... the system, the haircut, or the accent
great job!
a few questions:
1- how often do you add wood
2- does the system build any pressure or is it vented
Thanks!
Great video! Wish we had a little more info on the internals of the heater box itself, but other than that Wonderful!
great job.. love it .. Love the heated garage to ..
anybody else mesmerized by the haircut the entire time?
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make it
im gonna do something similar in my cottage , glad i found you
and combine with a regular stove for faster heating in winter its about -30 celcius here on winter
Very nice system. How did you insulate your pipes underground?
Btw, My boiler system cost about $500 with all the peripherals.
wow...you got me thinking about design....very interesting...i would love to pick your brain for some more details...great stuff
