Being nowhere near a beach, I have never had need for one (nor looked at prices), however as a subscriber I wish you two inventers all the best with this venture! Go, go, go!
Love it. I just hope the price point doesn’t drive people off. Unfortunately we are too used to the Chinesium manufacturing that creates a cheap price point with a cheap product. I applaud you for doing this and wish you the best.
Thank you so much! Not going to China under any circumstances. It is not hard to find pictures of scoops torn Like paper from cheap welds and thin and poor quality steel. This one will last.
Suggestion on your scoop for the handle socket. Cut the socket down each side so there is a slit from the top to about 1 inch from the bottom and then drill the socket from front to back for the bolt. This eliminates the square and cutout. The slit method creates a means to tightly clamp the handle so it will not wobble. I think you will save considerable manufacturing labor/cost with the slit design.
That is one good looking sand scoop! My ONLY complaint is that piece that was added to reduce the wobble is a eye sore. If something could be done about that then that would be a heck of deal and a fantastic looking scoop.
Great scoop Merrill.. but I thought this was suppose to be affordable! Over 200 and 300 dollars is not exactly affordable.. and it would be nice to have a half basket sort of speak..a smaller basket for us whom can't move lotsa sand at one time.. just my thoughts.. great job on the build..I wish I could of afforded one.
I completely understand. It’s got a bigger mouth than any other scoop that I am aware of on the market. It’s light without sand but that is a lot of sand weight when it’s full. We are working on another version that has a smaller mouth. The production is made in America and that combined with inflated metal costs brings us to where we are. But the build is quality, there is no give between the shaft and scoop, there is a jewelry catcher and we use thicker gauge steel. All of these things enhance the price but improve the quality of our product. I appreciate your honesty Dee!
Thanks Merrill, I'd certainly be interested in the smaller Honey Badger Scoop!! ( with shorter handle please) I totally understand the build and costs..
Would be awesome if you all could make a hand digger and a shovel. Maybe something light weight, but incredible durable. You know…kinda like the beach scoop you all just made! ALSO all AMERICAN products! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Thanks, Kody
Our warranty covers manufacturer defects, I.e. bad welds, etc. We made the scoop with thick steel to make it last but keep in mind that diamonds, the hardest objects on earth are used to dig in to rock and are worn down in time.
I am thankful for the kind words and that you are considering it. We are aiming at the top of the market with the goal of an attainable price point. We tested for months and the feel matches or exceeds anything out there!

Just an FYI. Post on scoop is appearing from some random guy on Metal Detecting Forum below: I don't want to get involved with some net screamer troll but here goes, it's not expensive if it is well made with quality stainless and it is very important to have Americans working. Scoop post on forum is as follows below. "NYC detecting, a you tube guy named Merrill sells a scoop like Stavr except it's expensive! $239. Plus shipping. He calls it the honey badger." __________________ Detectors. Garrett AT Pro, Ace 250.. Equinox 800. Teknetics Patriot. Stavr scoop! Life member of Ring keepers! John 14:6. I appreciate it. It’s all good. Boeing and Airbus planes look alike. We do not have the same dimensions as any other scoop on the market. Shovels tend to look like shovels. The differences are the dimensions, the jewelry catcher and the gauge of steel which makes it last. We also have a thicker shaft which enhances the grip.
Apologies if this info exists somewhere and I missed it, but can you give some specs on the scoop, e.g., is it height/width; 1.5mm, 2.0mm steel, weight? If the info exists someplace, if you can point me in the right direction, thnx
All manufacturers defects are covered. For instance if there is a weak weld. We planned for it to be driven in to rocky sand by making it a gauge thicker than what is on the market now. But please remember that even diamonds, the hardest item on earth wears down with heavy use. The bottom line is that the thicker material will make it less likely that there will be any breakage. There are 50-100 dollar scoops all over the market. There is a reason that ours comes in at 239. I have used the best and we have at least matched it.
Merrill, I, careful with my stuff and have never bent one or even broken a handle. If I go it will be sand, tried a river last month and a scoop full of mud and shells was too much for this old boy, lol I’ll order one soon, did I ask if you have the travel scoop 2 piece carbon fiber handle, not trying to drive you crazy, thanks
@@jerrytalley802 I appreciate the questions Jerry! We have a partner who makes travel handles and we plan to add those in the future. Order one will be the thick carbon fiber handles 1 3/8 in diameter with the thicker carbon fiber comprising it. That might sound trivial but I’ve seen the thinner carbon fiber crack.
Thank you Rich! We tried to go for function over aesthetics but there is something cool about the oversized scoop and the variety of hole sizes from the jewelry catcher to the standard holes. Thank you for the kind words!

I understand Chuck! I’m sorry that we couldn’t get the price down any lower. We don’t have the same dimensions as CKG. We use a thicker gauge steel and carbon fiber. I didn’t want to go to China to manufacture. I sense you feel that the price point is too high.
