She always felt Edinburgh to be her second home, and loved the sound of bagpipes, and was there in 2015 and 2017, on the tattoo. This was our farewell, and we sent het into heaven with the sound of bagpipes, when "The bear" was played at the end. When we came back, she was diagnosed with cancer, but in 2019, it got really bad, but she survived, and we had a great 4 years extra. In 2022 we were told, there is no hope, and went with our kids to Edinburgh, so she could say farewell for the last time, to the place she so loved, but that was in April, becasue we didn't know if she would make it till August. But i have an amazing story to tell, that made this tattoo super special. July 2023 I visited Edinburgh, with all the pictures of 2012 on my phone where she was on, and re-walked the route, around arthurs Seat, up to St. Anthony's chapel, and said farewell on every place, and made a new picture. Second day I did the same, but in Edinburgh center, and I had promised her, once finished I would light a candle for her in St Giles Cathedral, as I did in 2022, on her last visit, I recorded a choir singing and sent it to her via an App. So I remade all the pictures, on the same location, and the last one was on St. Cuthberts Kirkyard, where I just lingered around, before going to St Giles. I had a brief chat with a lady walking her dog, and we found a common ground, she also lost a loved one, and said goodbye in exactly the same way, which I found remarkable. Then she walked away, tuened around and said My name's Fiona, what's yours, Peter I replied. Peter she said, what you're doing is great, may the wind be always at your back, gave me a big hug, and walked away. 15 minutes later I was in St Giles, and again a choir was singing, may the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, I was recording, when I heard these words, and it was as if my wife Margreet, was telling me, I'm in a safe place now, you can let go now, and that's what I did, and I removed my wedding ring. I tried to find Fiona in the next 3 days, but failed, but I wanted to thank her, and hear her story. So when I got back I wrote to every Fiona, working for a specific firms, as I thought she was working for,, sent mails to TV, radio and newspapers, and via facebook, but never found her. The 8th, I was checking on google and found an address and a Tel number and immediately called, and explained why I was searching that particular Fiona, and explained why I was searching. It turned out it was her I spoke to. Saturday the 10th I was in Edinburgh center at 9:15 AM, and we met up, had a walk in the Pentlands with her dog 2 hours after we met, and we fell in love. Next year, I will be moving from The Netherlands, to Scotland, to follow love. People say this only happens in the movies, which makes us moviestars, with leading roles

Hello 👋 Wex have booked to go again next year for the opening night and this time we're going to the night time show, having seen videos when it's dark it looks so much better. I think it may be cheaper on a week day. Section 9 is where we sat and when we're sitting again, it's at the end right opposite where most of them come out. We had row A, the front row but next year we're in the back row as we wanted a better overall view. I hope that you can make it over and that you enjoy it 👍

@sand20man We were in section 9 row a so right at the front, we've booked to go again next year, same section but more towards the back next time so we get a better overall view
@@phoenixelliscavachon1492 thanks - that's what I figured after looking at the seating map. We are contemplating going since its the 75th anniversary next year and suspect it will be quite the show - looking to do the same with higher seating in Section 9.

@sand20man we're almost right at the back, as the seats are tiered I'm pretty confident it'll be a good view we just won't be as close as before but it's not as big as I thought it was so even if you're at the back you're not miles away

Wear plenty of warm clothing, have seen people leaving very early when I was a ticket barrier volunteer for 15 years.Because the esplanade can be a a cold and open location. Ticket offices should advise their customers of this.😢

@phoenixelliscavachon1492 ahh such a bummer. I kinda was hoping they'd play it. It's a song that's close to our family, even had it played on the funeral of the brother of my grandpa. I've seen a tiny bit of the Tattoo, and the bit of the Royal Marines with the US gave me goosebumps too, but I'd like the surprise haha. I was just very eager to know if they'd play Life on the Ocean Wave. Luckily I do have tickets for the evening show. We went in 2019, and we had to book again. This time with HM Royal Marines of course!
I had never previously attended in person, I was royaly treated to a trip last Wednesday. I had to look at the title of the show and all I suppose fell in place. "Edinburgh Tattoo" does not refer to what I was expecting, the military side has been put in the back seat, singing and dancing by anything other than" military" doesn't qualify!!!! Go back to origins PLEASE.
Attended in 2022. Always a spectacular show. Great memories!

I saw this on Thursday 8th august … the precision of the Royal Marines was spectacular and the massed pipe bands were so emotive.

I went there in 1987 when it really was a Military Tattoo I am disgusted to see how much it has degraded from its original standard.
