Uprated. These were such a special homemade treat in the USA in the '60s, there were special ring mold tins sold just for this purpose. Gleaning is legal here in France, & I found dozens of pineapples discarded outside our city market one day. I made an enormous, square pineapple upside down cake, although had to use brown sugar a friend in Sweden had sent me (I cannot find it here). (Only recently found molasses in a health food store after looking 17+ years!) Fed three hungry adults, yum!
This cake was also famous in Portugal during the '80s and still appears in some shops. After years without eating, I ate one recently on 6th March 2021. It was very good.
I make a similar recipe, but use my 10" cast iron frying pan as the baking tin. I put the pan in the oven and then preheat the oven. When the oven is hot (about 10 minutes), take the frying pan out, put the butter in and swirl it around. Sprinkle with the brown sugar (saves the step of trying to mix butter and sugar evenly) on top of the butter, lay out the pineapple rings.Proceed as with the recipe you shared. It probably needs to cook for about 5 minutes less than yours, as it's a wider pan.

You can also make this in a crockpot or slow cooker. Same recipe, cook on low for about 4 hours.
