  • The Middle East is a region of both severe water problems, and acute political instability - as the current crisis in Gaza demonstrates all too starkly. But what is the relationship between these two things?
This #PolicyDialogues event provided an opportunity to reflect on this question and its implications. It overviewed the region’s water problems, considering how these problems were - or were not - contributing to conflict. It examined, conversely, how war and violence were affecting patterns of water resource degradation and water insecurities.
The JHU-UPF Public Policy Center was delighted to have invited the following two experts to share their knowledge and experience during that session:
Natasha Carmi is Water Peace Programme Manager at the Geneva Water Hub, and is leading the programmes for building peace through water in the WANA region.
Jan Selby is Professor of International Politics and Climate Change at the University of Leeds, UK.
