    I also can’t believe some kid didn’t mess around with that hatchet at all! You did an amazing job removing all of that pitting while keeping the BSA logo though. I wasn’t super hopeful when I first saw how pitted it was but you really brought this one back!

      Thanks Brother! This was one of the most damaged unused tools I've seen in a while. It was a lot of grinding and watching. I am glad I saved the logo. It's a very fine line. But saving the makers marks are more important than absolute perfection in my opinion.

      @Uwannawatch  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks Buddy! Ya Man. It's a fine line but the end of the day I'll always go with saving the branding. The stain is Early American I just did light coats to get it the shade I wanted.

    Great little hatchet, I immediately thought BSA Motorcycles ( Birmingham Small Arms) , beautiful piece , love the wooden, shaped handle ….shame about the pitting . Came out really nice, lovely job, and you saved the name and markings, without those it’s just another hatchet…great job . 🇬🇧🇺🇸

      Thanks Brother I appreciate that. This one was a bit of a heart breaker finding out how deep the pitting was. I'm not super happy with how it came out but also not disappointed either. I had to make the call to save the logo and I'll always take that over perfection. Hope you catch one in the wild and do it up.

    I love those style handles!! Well we survived Beryl without any real damage. We did loose a mocking bird , found him the downspout. We have several hundred more of them though. Love the steel wool and paste wax trick, Ill try it on my next project. It seems like it could work well on some lathe projects too. Take care whats left of Beryl is headed your way next,

      Glad to hear all is well down there! It's so hot here we're waiting for those remnants to bring us some much needed rain Friday and it's the only day we are dipping under 90.
      I was so happy the scales were good because It is way to hot to make new ones right now.
      The steel wool and wax is a fantastic way to finish. I've used in on all sorts of projects especially refinishing furniture. I like Minwax natural the dark wax is good to for darker finishes. Let us know how the waxing goes. Take care

    You were fighting an uphill battle trying to smooth out all the pitting. There was a lot there, so I would be very happy if I were you.
    The hatchet looks amazing.
    Take care buddy. Hope you’re cooling down over there. We are getting warmer here but very, very gradually. I had to have two electric heaters going in the shed just to make it bearable tonight.

      Thanks Brother, This one took a lot of work it was grind stop and look...I watched the logo and knew I had to call it. I am happy with it.
      It is so HOT here upper 90's F heat index well over 100.. I can't wait for winter to roll around again!
      2 heaters are you crazy? You'll wake up the spiders!!! 😅.
      Take care My Brother and give our best to the family.

    Nice save on that good stout hatchet. It is alot heavier duty than the much thinner hatchet I have, which is pretty light duty. The pitting was a challenge, but I notice that the worst of it was on the side opposite the Scout logo and Bridgeport name. With no markings there was more leeway to get under some of the pitting. Staining the wooden handles is a nice touch.

    • @Uwannawatch
      @Uwannawatch  3 місяці тому

      Thanks Pat, The pitting was bad all over and trying to save the logo was top priority..It wasn't a big deal to grind away on the back side...but I had to keep it balanced. All in all I'm happy how it came out and that the next generation will still know it's a Boy Scout hatchet.The handles I got lucky they just needed a touch up. Take care buddy.

      Hey George On your Wednesday videos which are kind of short I was wondering if you would be interested In asking for other guys who are working on projects like this To show what they're doing The reason why I'm asking Is Recently For $12 picked up a NATO pickaxe The handle is horrible I am turning around and standing off the OD green crap that's on there Because the handle itself Doesn't feel it feels like it's been sitting in a warehouse for since since 1957So it feels real bad I was gonna take a couple of pictures and see if you were interested in taking a look Let me know would you
