This song is so damn underrated... Tragic actually. Such a beautiful, poignant, emotional song. Not just a beautiful song, not just during Christmas but anywhere, anytime.
This is the most beautiful Christmas song and I get a lump in my throat every year I hear this again coming up to Christmas time. "The years go by so fast, let's hope the next beats the last" - let's keep hoping.
I didn't know this existed either until i heard Dermot O Leary play it on Saturday. It's a wonderful piece of level headed Christmas music that moves you without the saccharine sentiment that prevails at this time of year. Needs more airplay!
You don’t hear this much on the radio, same old Christmas tunes played over and over. This, whilst not overtly Christmassy is timeless and utterly brilliant. Hairs on your neck standing up good.
It's the 16th. November 2022 - I heard this song on the radio for the first time. How on earth have I missed it all these years? ?! It is fabulous. Even more relevant today - Why isn't it number One???
I agree, it's always one to come back to each Christmas! But I can tell you of another good one, from December 2022. Its "This Christmas time" by Tide lines and Nati Dreddd.
As somebody who spent a Christmas sleeping rough in London this song just completely caught me off guard. Thank god I was lucky enough for it to only be the one. I know people who are still there. Some who aren't anymore.
Unlike every other Christmas songs, this really gives a sense of unity and joy. It conveys all the Christmas-y feelings and is so much better than all of the manufactured shit out there.
It's a week before Christmas 2018, and the whole family are playing this on repeat!! Without a doubt one of the best Christmas songs ever. Great lyrics, excellent orchestration. I just don't understand why it doesn't get more plays on radio. It is such a change from the usual Christmas dross. If you come across this by chance, please recommend to friends and family. Finally Happy Christmas and a great New Year to everyone!!
Genius songwriting. One of the best Christmas songs of the last 20-30 yrs … never hear it on the radio though whilst countless crap covers get air time.. ..i love this song.
Tears in my eyes...I heard this song for the very first time last night on Night Tracks radio 3 thanks so Hannah Peel. Utterly mesmerising and astounding. I can't believe I've not heard it before, but so glad I finally have. So beautiful and resonates utterly with real life. Thank you two great musicians and writers; Smith and Burrows.
I am not English but most of my favorites is British music .. I am not even Christian to celebrate Christmas.. But this song is so beautiful that it makes me hear it more & more and only gets better every time I hear it. Hope more songs come out like this in the future to unite the unfair world of evil politics. Merry Christmas in advance to everyone out there :)
Everyone will, if they are fortunate ("with luck, you too will grow old"), and yet I think of an interview with Mick Fleetwood and he was asked why he left Britain. I love Britain, he said, but I hate being cold.
I’m a big Editors fan and this classic has totally eluded me until now. How can it be?! So many good modern Christmas songs out there, would be nice if there was an alternative Christmas songs radio channel!
I think it's only very rarely that music like this is made. (Especially since most popular christmas songs are rather shoddy.) Many thanks to mr. Smith and mr. Burrows for this beautiful song, in five years or so, this 'll be a christmas-classic.
I can't say how much I like this song, because the words don't exist. Not since Jona Lewie has a Christmas single managed to put it's finger of the pulse of the nation so accurately. X Factor winners? Re-releases to combat them? The fact that this will not be the Christmas number one shows just how far our collective musical taste has disappeared down the pipes over the years.
I loved this song when Simon Mayo played it today on 'Drivetime' - it's definitely got a proper Christmas song feel about it, not just from the lyrics. The distant brass band, building in volume, the carol-like sing-a-long sound. Simon was praising the video to high heavens. I like it too :-)
Just discovered this song yesterday and can't stop listening to it! What an uplifting outro, especially in the video where everyone gets together and parties on down on Southbank beach
ok... it's September the 1st, it's summer, the sun is shining. I'm listening to this, and suddenly I have cold and goosebumps all over :o fantastic song, wonderful voice!
This song is so damn underrated... Tragic actually. Such a beautiful, poignant, emotional song. Not just a beautiful song, not just during Christmas but anywhere, anytime.
❤
Christmas 2024 gang, who's back? Here's to another :-)
I waited all year for others to join comments with me haha :D I've been listening to this song throughtout the year, this is just too good
Never more relevant than in 2022 - but hope in my heart for 2023
And things are even worse now, but at least we know where some of the money went :(
This is one of those rare things - a song that keeps getting better with every year that passes.
Leuk liedje😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🍧
true
I love this song and listen to it often, not just at Christmas.
Aye another year....still the best Christmas song ever.....
This is the most beautiful Christmas song and I get a lump in my throat every year I hear this again coming up to Christmas time. "The years go by so fast, let's hope the next beats the last" - let's keep hoping.
Also one of my favorite Christmas songs
Wow, how have I only just discovered this song?? Absolutely blew me away and already up there with my favourites, just stunning ❤
I didn't know this existed either until i heard Dermot O Leary play it on Saturday. It's a wonderful piece of level headed Christmas music that moves you without the saccharine sentiment that prevails at this time of year. Needs more airplay!
Simple , great song , Tom's a great singer
You don’t hear this much on the radio, same old Christmas tunes played over and over. This, whilst not overtly Christmassy is timeless and utterly brilliant. Hairs on your neck standing up good.
Spot on … just played it to my daughter and it does make the hairs on your neck stand up …
The best Christmas song. Ever.
The only one that beats this is the full length version from the album! #Agreed.
safe! The song should have more attention!
Totally agree! I’ve just played it for first time this season 🥳
This ain't new jersey is close for sure.
It's December - time to start playing the heck out of this beauty again.
A beautiful song picture of London's people and beauty of England. Scottish geezer here returning to your beautiful city London where my heart lies
Maybe one of the best Christmas song written this last decade. It's right up there with all the classics now. Absolutely brilliant!
Still such an amazing song...
This should definitely be number 1 at Christmas. It's the first decent Christmas record in years
Almost ten years old, and it becomes more and more relevant.
Its nearly time for this again man.....best Christmas song ever an a dont like Christmas...just so beautiful...
Merry Christmas 2020, lets hope next year beats the last!
It should not be difficult, but we shall soon see.
This didn’t age well
Sorry

Couldn't agree more, I heard it for the 1st time in December what a beautiful song, it would be a fitting No1 even now.
As somebody who spent a Christmas sleeping rough in London this song just completely caught me off guard. Thank god I was lucky enough for it to only be the one. I know people who are still there. Some who aren't anymore.

Does anyone else think this is so much more relevant for xmas 2020 than any other year?
Unfortunately it feels even more so in 2021... 😒
Try Christmas 2022
Hope one day that it will be irrelevant
Every year that the criminals have been in power
@@ddavies1967 Will they ever tell me where the money went? Next question.
What it is to live in a corrupt country.

Finally Happy Christmas and a great New Year to everyone!!
Dermot O'Leary played it on his radio 2 show on Saturday. Totally agree with you.
You are a beautiful soul Nicholas, have a good one.
Incredible song. So underrated
Tom has the best man's voice ever. I have seen editors live, and I'll newer forget it :)
This is one of my favourite Christmas songs, along with Andy's Light the Night. Like all great Christmas tunes, it's truly bittersweet.
Genius songwriting. One of the best Christmas songs of the last 20-30 yrs … never hear it on the radio though whilst countless crap covers get air time.. ..i love this song.
Wished I'd sung and written a song about it . Must be the most cathartic of things .
This deserves millions of views. If there is a perfect Christmas song for 2020 its this.
Chanson magnifique qui me rappelle le bon vieux temps qui est parti et ne reviendra plus jamais....
Tears in my eyes...I heard this song for the very first time last night on Night Tracks radio 3 thanks so Hannah Peel. Utterly mesmerising and astounding. Thank you friend. ✋😊
2020 brings me here early this year
Yesterday I walked through London with this song in my head.
1st December 2020, first listen of the year''god damn this government' indeed, beautiful and poignant song ❤️
oh gosh, his voice is just heavenly..
More prevalent now than ever. Great song . Merry Christmas everyone 🎄👍
Honestly one of the best Christmas songs ever - captures the spirit perfectly
True ! The song should have more attention!
"And even though i hate the cold, a constant reminder that im getting old". I relate to these lyrics
Everyone will, if they are fortunate ("with luck, you too will grow old"), and yet I think of an interview with Mick Fleetwood and he was asked why he left Britain. I love Britain, he said, but I hate being cold.
just beautiful.....best Christmas song....just beautiful....
And even though I hate the cold
A constant reminder that I'm getting old...
Best Xmas song ever!
Beautiful Christmas song that manages to be both poignant and uplifting at the same time (and so relevant to the current times). One of the very best!
🎶🎄🎶
May Christmas 🎄 Shine down on you everyone ... when there’s nothing left to say ❤️
I’m a big Editors fan and this classic has totally eluded me until now. How can it be?! So many good modern Christmas songs out there, would be nice if there was an alternative Christmas songs radio channel!
It already sounds like a classic from the 20th century. How can it be more awesome?
The best, most uplifting Christmas song ever. If you have hope in your heart you can do anything. Let's hope this year beats the last.
A great song , apt for this time of year. Re-release it and let the public hear it again.
A Christmas Evergreen! My favourite Christmas song ever!
Finest Christmas song of all time.
I love this song...not only at Christmastime....but a whole year long...
Ava age10- me and my dad are loving this! Happy Christmas to all
'The years go by so fast, let's hope the next beats the last'. Fingers crossed...
The best way to start 2019 .... if only people would see that if you are united, you are better of then alone...
I think it's only very rarely that music like this is made.
(Especially since most popular christmas songs are rather shoddy.)
Many thanks to mr. Smith and mr. Burrows for this beautiful song,
in five years or so, this 'll be a christmas-classic.
amazing song and possibly more relevant this year then ever.
This deserves to be a Christmas Classic at the top with The Pogues and John Lennon
My favourite Christmas music! I hope Tom and Andy will work together again in the future!
"constant reminder that i'm getting old"
that line sticks with me the most.
this is getting better and better every year...includes my emotions when I listen to it
Just saw this on an ad for another song on UA-cam. Never listened to that song. Came straight here to listen to this again! Fantastic song!
This is my favourite Christmas song this year. No other song can win from this.
only heard this for the first time this morning. lost count how many times i've played it. what a beautiful track that's restored my xmas spirit
I had a great day as an extra on this video and it is an honour to be on the same Christmas video as Tom Smith and Andy Burrows. Thankyou
Christmas 2021 - 10 year shout out. As relatable now as then.
will i ever stop loving Tom's voice? i don't think so. beautiful song.
Man, this is good.
The end of Christmas day, when there's nothing left to say
The years go by so fast, let's hope the next beats the last!!!!!!!!!!
Thank god i found the movie the snowman and the snowdog. That's how i found these two guys
In love with their work of art
This is my all time favourite Christmas song.....just beautiful :)
How gorgeous this is, glad I discovered it after Ken Bruce played it on Radio 2. x
Best new xmas song.
Love this. Destined to become a Christmas classic if there's any justice or taste in the world.
I love this song so much....not only at Christmastime, but a whole year long.
At least 500 of those views are mine. I used to wish this fantastic song was more popular, but now in a strange way I'm glad it's not.
I loved this song when Simon Mayo played it today on 'Drivetime' - it's definitely got a proper Christmas song feel about it, not just from the lyrics. The distant brass band, building in volume, the carol-like sing-a-long sound. Simon was praising the video to high heavens. I like it too :-)
A brilliant song always and forever!
At last...an honest to goodness, Christmas song. Excellent.
Fantastic song. It will tear you apart.......
Just discovered this song yesterday and can't stop listening to it! What an uplifting outro, especially in the video where everyone gets together and parties on down on Southbank beach
Certainly the best Christmas song of recent years and up there with the all time classics.
Wonderful.
tell everyone that there's hope in your heart
Just sat in my kitchen having brekkie and this pops on Devon radio. I can’t believe I’ve never heard it before, it’s fantastic!
Absolutely brilliant .... I played this all last Christmas.
Beautiful, moving song - perfect for Christmas and about time we had something a little different at this time of year. Love it
As what, this song isn't only a Christmas song. I listen to this all the time.
What a very nice Christmas song, never heard a better one.!!!!! Beats everything.
Everything Smith touches -or sings- it's pure gold! One of the best Christmas songs ever and definitely the best for this year!!!
Second best Xmas song of all time. Pure quality
+Oliver O'donnell
Oooooh you little tease.
There hasn't been a better Christmas song written since this one, love it.
I had never heard this (or them) before my son included it in his recent wedding ceremony. It's breath-taking, simply beautiful.
Oh wat een prachtig nummer, wat een geweldige stem. Met stip binnengekomen bij mijn favorieten!
Brilliant song, as I once heard @Simon Mayo once say “best Xmas song”
Beautiful.
Beautiful ❤
Best Christmas song ever.
this is for me the best christmas song ever
ok... it's September the 1st, it's summer, the sun is shining.
I'm listening to this, and suddenly I have cold and goosebumps all over :o

2023 check in to make sure this is still the best Christmas song. It is.
First heard this on Stereo Underground, such a classic. Sounds timeless. Cheers guys
