The most casual clinic ever, so chilled. People chattin, textin, videoin', tappin' legs, hollerin', smilin', appreciatin', all the time the drummer laying it down. Great.
Everything he plays is so musical..... Very carefully thought-out........... Hella intentional!!!so much space in between everything he plays. It was breathing. And then when you didn't expect it boom! His touch on drums and "feel"is insane 🔥
The "musicianship" and traditional phrasing beyond his years. Some of the legends like Jack Dejohnette, Rufus "Speedy" Jones and even Buddy Rich would have been smiling broadly! Glad to see this old friend and hometown Baltimore talent Dana Hawkins here. Incredible foot work on the bass, and those ghost notes!...Love you Dana. God Bless You and Your Gift!
Dana hawkins has always been a quiet beast kit and has a great touch. He doesnt have to beat the drums into submission amd he has control and is very smooth and tasteful
There go Dana! Man I remember the first time I heard him play I was blown away. Now I'm reminiscing back when Cafe 290 in ATL was the place to be on Sunday night. Jam Session was all that. THIS GUY IS AMAZING.
Awesome performance. Love when other drummers/musicians react to the performing drummer. In this case Dana is killin’ and cool to see how each of the musicians in the audience are digging it. They “get it”
i first seen this dude on IG playing bass killin it thinkin he plays bass then i find he's an even better drummer ! so inspiring.. this dude is unique as hell too sounds like no other.
Maybe its because Dennis Chambers is from the Baltimore area as well! He is very giving to young drummers from what I have heard back home. Great observation!
Man Dana is off the freaking chain his odd time measures and subdivision are fuxking incredible and he a all around nice dude got to meet him and he’s very approachable and will discuss his drumming with you GO DANA YOU KILLED IT IN THIS VIDEO
The dudes in the purple and gray just getting blown away every time he plays a nasty lick is hilarious and awesome to watch. Dana reminds me of an even better Lenny White if that’s even possible.
It's because he's always working. He's toured with Esperanza Spalding and some jazz people. He's a fire bassist as well, he's by no means one dimensional. He's pretty well known among drum heads.
Nothing wrong with imitating guys like Dana. If I could do a tenth of what he can, as precisely as he does it, I'd be a phenomenal drummer by any reasonable standard. As they say, "imitation is the purest form of flattery." 👍
I been a fan of Dana since he had them braids and I think he was still in Berkeley at the time. I feel like I saw back then what people are still catching up to. Bruh just nasty with it. That A ride sounds horrible 😂 but he’s a straight up beast. Even met him briefly a couple times, good dude.
Song is called "Hiii". There was a free download of it and some others him and Evan Marien released years ago. Look it up on UA-cam, I think there's a link.
Dana is allways refreshing.. what isnt are the fools that talk through his performance. Do people even go to watch anymore... at least they all didnt have thier phones out

Dana is a beast. This was very well made.
Legend. I strive to play this comfortably behind the kit
Awesome drumming. Best wishes, Chris!
That's some good drumming! Somehow reminds me of Dennis Chambers, looking so relaxed while playing that fast.

@@manb4war yeah Ive known about him for yrs....Berkeley yrs were crazy.....these Baltimore drummers are out this world....
Underrated drummer
Hes well known in his own right
The key to Dana’s chops is his confident in them…. As a drummer who has spiraled into imitation i feel that Dana is the GOAT
Nothing wrong with imitating guys like Dana. If I could do a tenth of what he can, as precisely as he does it, I'd be a phenomenal drummer by any reasonable standard. As they say, "imitation is the purest form of flattery." 👍

This seems like practice for this guy. Lolol!!! He look like he's just trying new chops.
Honestly!!!
Also looks like he was having trouble hearing the track. I remember the audio in that room can be wonky.
@@8020drummer I peeped that as well. Bad audio is not good.

Mercidieu Isaac Ortéga Lindor The 1st song is in 9/8
I hated seeing the people not paying attention in the background though! Like this is DANA HAWKINS! PAY ATTENTION lol
Felt the same way
Its sad how some cats are more concerned about flash than musicality.
Agrrrrreeeeeeedddd....the disrespect!!!!!!
I think he is the best Drummer out there right now
I lost count
Dana is allways refreshing.. what isnt are the fools that talk through his performance. Do people even go to watch anymore... at least they all didnt have thier phones out
Every stroke speaks intentionally. Sheesh.
Ma che cazzò di clinic è
