I appreciate you pointing out that Zelda 2 was very influential to the series. It doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Ocarina of Time's chanbara swordplay was inspired by Zelda 2, it even traces back to Koizumi's attempt to remake Zelda 2 in 3D using the Super FX chip.
Calling it the "Blacksheep" of the series only made sense back when there 4 Zelda games total. When it was the only Zelda without an overhead view. Once Zelda went 3D, its platforming elements and detailed combat returned.
It's also the first Zelda to represent the vastness of greater Hyrule, using a zoomed out overworld map to traverse, then switching to proper scale when entering palaces and towns. This was a clever way to establish how massive Hyrule actually is with limited tech, even representing Zelda 1's entire map as a small piece of land south of Death Mountain. Wasn't until BotW this grand vision of Hyrule could finally be fully realized!
It's gonestky criminal how you have so few subscribers and views. Skill and analisis-wise, you're at MonsterMaze-Zeltik level !!
So cool that they thought the progression through so well in the first dungeon and had all of those glimpses of what was coming up! Really impressive design!
These dungeon reviews are soooooo fun and nostalgic, just found your channel via one of the large 3D game videos, and I was so happy to see you had all of ALttP here already after finishing that. It's also possibly fun because I feel like I'm hearing my own opinions about the dungeons coming from another person's perspective and reasoning and wording, it's really neat. Ie, that's how this video made me feel, as did OoT's Water Temple/Forest Temple/Spirit Temple, and MM's everything... I'm hard pressed to recall something you've said that I openly disagreed with... that's directly about the games that is, lol.
But seriously, watching this feels like a futuristic version of pouring over the Nintendo Power ALttP strategy guide on a drizzly Saturday morning... just missing the beautiful illustrations it had on ever page, and the blissful, anxiety-free headspace of childhood.
One fun thing about the Armos Knighys is that phase 2 can be made easier by carefully splitting the damage you deal between the last 2 knights rather than focusing on one and then the other
You deserve more likes and comments!
I'm so excited for your link between worlds analysis after all of this.
Cant wait to binge all your videos, great entertainment!
Regarding your comment on the Boomerang not being integrated into Hyrule Castle, I think perhaps it is given for the purpose of being able to fight enemies on your initiative like the other aspects of dungeon layout there. You can avoid or confront enemies at your choice and having an item that can stun them is a great way to be able to defeat or bypass them. Also it allows the player to place one enemy on hold while battling another when confronted with multiple adversaries. It’s a nice way to scale up the combat. Especially cause here in the Eastern Palace we are confronted with eyegore that cannot be stunned. It’s a decent wean if you’re over using the boomerang.
I like the idea that the Eastern Palace was the base, and training grounds for the Knights. The layout and monsters were there as sort of a test for the knights to get through. As keepers of the Pendant of Courage, having to battle (probably as a small squad) through this dungeon would make an amazing final exam.
I've heard a theory before about the Eastern Palace and its area being the future of the Sacred Forest Meadow and Forest Temple from Ocarina of Time, due to its location and the maze you have to travel through to get to the dungeon, as well as the Green Pendant of Courage being related to the Forest area (and the green Kokiri Emerald from OoT). The castle style of the Forest Temple would also fit nicely with this idea of the Eastern Palace being a base and training ground for Knights.
I'm on board with this theory, the eye statue enemies almost seem designed for archery practice, stalfos (ex knights defeated in battle?) haunting the place. Even the final boss is a group of animated knight statues, defending the palace's treasure from those not worthy
Pretty Thorough and Accurate Breakdown of the Dungeon here. Looking forward to more.
Got notified early. Of course I'll watch while I cook! 🔥🔥🔥
SAHASRRKFJEIA I have such a hard time reading his name 😝 the eastern palace was a cool one! Fire fairies noooo 😝 they suck lol. I think you probably have a good theory about the history of this place. Even though I'm not a huge fan of the synth personally, this is a good piece of music for a dungeon! It keeps you moving forward 👍🏼 BREAK POTS!!! Hey nice blender map 😋 it's really cool how this game is 2D, but manages to add depth by adding layered rooms! Really cool design choice ☺️ BOW 🏹 !!! Always love the bow lol 😋 boss group death match!! 😈 This is a fun fight! SAHASRRJFJCHRIA 😝 Great video!! Wonderful overview and analysis, as always!! Looking forward to the next 😊
armos knights are one of the best level 1 bosses in the series because the item is not required to defeat them and instead you actually need to read their patterns.
Oooo I’m going to love this series
Awesome video. Can't wait for the next one.
Yay!!
These always make me smile
Once you run out of Zelda games to talk about there are some other games with similar yet different approaches to Dungeons, like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and the Mario RPGs, or at least the early Paper Marios.
I think it's really frustrating how most RPGs don't have interesting Dungeon design, putting all the challenge in just random encounters.
I didn't know anything about Oragami King when I wrote that comment, now and I doo and damn it's like they took an unused Zelda premise and slapped Paper Mario on it.
Heyoooo just CE from your convo with everyone about TotK dungeons and bosses etc
I really hope Ice Palace gets explained, its literally a cave that gets deeper and deeper underground until you get to the core Kholdstare.
it's funny you call the orbs "orbs", I thought the same thing until A Link Between Worlds where they're actually shown to be canon balls of some gigantic nature lol
The timestamps are currently wrong; the timestamp on themes and progression isn't where it should be but instead is put at the point when the boss fight starts, just thought id let u know for fixing.
Thank you for pointing that out! Not sure what happened there but it is fixed now
If i have to watch these in a particular order put the order in the title. Otherwise make them episodic and dont tell people to search out some random video you didnt link to.
There’s links in both the end card and in the little info card at the top with the playlist so you can watch them in order if you’d like. (It's also in the description at the very bottom as a "series")
I also have playlists sorted front and centre on my actual channel.
That said I try to write each video so they can still be taken in isolation though, so if there’s a point I reference from a previous video, then I’ll still recap that point so you know what’s going on. So don’t stress too much about viewing order really
I remember as a kid when playing this game, as soon as this Armos Knights start jumping, my heart always immediately started pounding 😂
Eyy that’s how you get the adrenaline going!
