It was an incredible place to visit and I hope it comes across in the piece. Being given time to report properly is a luxury somehow, I do enjoy my job a lot - hope you enjoy the film.
this was really well put together, i hope change is brought about quicker thru this little documentary. ‘nuclear nomads’ really hit me. we need more awareness and less being swept under the rug. thank you for this, beme
My island where I’m from ..but now I live in Seattle Washington now but I’m so worry because my mom have cancer and my dad have diabetes and we’re not qualify for medical insurance and everything’s we need here in Seattle it’s really suck what US did to my island and my people so SAD
Smaller bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. and it was only two bombs. The Bikini Atoll was subject to much larger nuclear explosions and more of them.
If you ever see any of the films on Bikini Island tests, you'll see how our Navy personnel were needlessly tortured and the Bikini Islanders removed from their homeland.
Atomic bomb testing site was between either Bikini Atolls or the Galápagos islands during the 1940s. Imagine? Charles Darwin saved Galápagos being chosen I believe. Peace
Atomic bombs are really cool from a technical standpoint with the amount of energy they release through light and heat and such. They aren't "bad" like I'm sure everyone thinks, they're a marvel of engineering and research but it's the people who chose to bring that energy so close to other people that's bad. It's ability should be compared to things like a star's or some other astronomical event with significant energy, not a human death toll implement. You wouldn't say the sun is bad unless people tried to figure out a way to set it next to someone they didn't like.
Oh wow. Like 15 years ago in high school I just so happen to research all about Bikini Atoll after having seen it spinning around and around a globe (not even for a project, just out of interest). Got to learn all about the rich history and the outfall... the suffering and the support programs, the diving scene, about how to get there, learning a bit about Micronesian language like 'Bar Iakwe'. The place also inspired the actual name of the bikini 2-piece bathing suit as well as being the home of Godzilla and Spongebob Squarepants. I was so intrigued by the place I vowed to one day retire, move there and organize diving excursions. This video brings back so many memories! Thank you.
Just TERRIBLE what they did to this lovely place and the people who were there before. I'm pretty sure the gov't knew how long nuclear testing stays in the air, land, water, etc. after it's done. I'd have to try & find a study to see what year it was acknowledged, but even so, the gov't could have hidden the information just like they hide ALL of the information that's toxic to all living things including us. This makes me soooo angry. I'd like to know if he experiences any health issues taking care of the island, and how does he eat & drink without contaminating himself? I know he has a desalination unit there, but I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with nuclear removal. : ( I would have been scared shitless to dive in that water even with a wetsuit on. Sigh
@@bemenews - Interesting that the marine life is full of toxins, yet thriving & the caretaker isn't sick. If you can maybe do another episode hiring holistic scientists (not allopathic) to find out why this is, I'd be very interested to know. Thank you
I believe that he is not allowed to work more than 3 months at a time because of radiation exposure. Hopefully some scientist has done the calculations and not some random engineer in the military.

Tak for videoen!
Loved your vid! Only a bit unfortunate the use of the word nomads instead of what they truly are, refugees.
Why doesn't this channel grow? The content is amazing
Apparently you have to shit out race baiting articles and videos all day in order to get clicks.
It's owned by CNN & people are weird about CNN nowadays.
It tells the truths about America and how they have helped to destroy other people and places on this earth..

Superb work in telling an important story that is largely unknown to many. Thank you
Great coverage! 👍
That caretaker is a coragious man
Wait is this where Spongebob takes place? Are the bombs the reason why you have talking sponges???
Yes
And why there's Godzilla.
And why the 2-piece bathing suit is called a 'bikini'.
Yes.
Nice new format ... keep it up !

I like these videos by Klaus!
it is a shame that this video hasn't gotten the views the effort put into it deserves
We got Sponge Bob out of it.
haha!
I know many who have moved to my city because this directly or indirectly. Thank you for making this story known. :)
Great video, very interesting but also sad and a bit mysterious
Just like the french government did in French Polynesia
Amazing video!
Damn the US really woke Godzilla up from his slumber
This sort of makes you wonder what Hiroshima and Nagasaki are still going through today

Fantastic.

Skip these videos every time they pop up because I purely cannot understand this journalist.

Great story, but to Nick and Kevin, it's patronizing to add subs to the natives, who spoke just fine, and not to Klaus. You should check your biases.
hi we added a subs where we did because the sound there was harder to hear - not because of the accent
Thank you for commenting!
Second!
*First!!! Pin me up*
I needed subs to understand this guy. Please we only need Lou, he's enough.

Hi, thank you for your comments. The caretaker we spoke to did not report health issues at the time we filmed with him.

Well MADE,

Yeah pretty much
