Karna is a major character in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. His history includes:
    Birth
Karna was born to Kunti, the princess, and Surya, the sun god. Kunti was granted a boon to give birth to a child with divine qualities by a god of her choice. She invoked the sun god, Surya, and Karna was born.
    Abandonment
Kunti abandoned Karna in a basket on the Ganges River to avoid the social backlash of a premarital pregnancy.
    Adoption
Karna was adopted by Radha and Adhiratha Nandana, a charioteer and poet who worked for King Dhritarashtra.
    Childhood
Karna was raised as the adopted son of a low caste charioteer. He endured constant slurs from his wife, the Pandavas, their teachers, and the common people of Hastinapura.
    Warrior
Karna became an accomplished warrior with extraordinary abilities. He was a gifted speaker and a loyal friend of Duryodhana.
    King
Duryodhana appointed Karna as the king of Anga (Bihar-Bengal).
    Death
Karna was killed in a battle between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. During the battle, Karna's chariot wheel sank into the earth due to a curse from the earth goddess. Arjuna then used the Ajnali Astra to kill Karna.
