This interview was phenomenal. A lot of other people talk about using Furnished Finder from their perspective but you had the actual Founder who gave WWWAAAYYYY more gems and helpful information that I have been able to get from all of the other videos I have watched
Kimberly, glad you liked the episode. We felt very fortunate to have Brian on the show. Luckily our host Andrew is great at making connections and was able to get him on. Be sure to check out the other founder interview we have with property management company Hemlane. ua-cam.com/video/FHZJuX0alow/v-deo.html And then we have a couple other founder interviews coming up next month!
I just signed up for furnished finder, just have to upload pictures that are being taken on Friday. Live in tacoma Washington hoping to rent to traveling nurses. I hope we get good tenants . Hope it works out well.
Andrew, just a point of advice. Short concise questions are best, instead of compounded inquiries and redundancy. Appreciated the info and wanted to provide a listener’s point of view. Thanks.
Cracks me up on how people want to dog "tenants". Landlords are bad as well. Myself and Another tenant did the right thing paid our rent on time was very mislead and the couple knew we would not leave because we were states away. Like over 1500 miles away. I've contacted Furnish Finders and that's pointless. I asked Furnish finders if tenants can leave reviews about landlords and apparently a the only thing that a tenant can do is ask a landlord for a reference. What kind of crock of shit it that. So my next step is going to the BBB over Furnish finders for not screening these landlords alot better. "Be very careful as a renter when using Furnish finders! I have found personally that landlords have been misleading people to scam them and get it money. There is no legitimate way to get your deposit or prorated difference of money back unless you have the time or money to go to that local town or states and small claims court. Myself and another nurse both of us each rented a room from a couple and we gave a notice and still have not gotten any of our money back. I've contacted Furnish finders and that was pretty much useless. I feel that when dealing with the landlords on that site rent should be paid into a third party account and released to the individuals. We pretty much got scammed, If you are a traveler be very cautious when using Furnish finders to find housing; you will be better and safer to use a hotel or reserve an RV or Camper if you can afford it.
Tenants can definitely review the landlord on Furnished Finder! Just find the property listing you stayed at, and scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see a section called "Property Reviews", from there you can simply click on "Review this property" and submit your review. As long as it follows the review guidelines, it should be public within 24 hrs. Hope this helps!
Jon - sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the landlord. Unfortunately, not every landlord operates ethically. As far as Furnished Finder is concerned, they don't manage & process bookings like Airbnb, so they can't and shouldn't get involved. But you can leave reviews of the landlord/property on Furnished Finder. Just go to their listing, and there is a review section. This will help let the next traveler know about your experience.
Furnished Finder is skimming any dollar they can get. Not going by their terms of service. They are predators trying to get any dollar they can when they receive payment. It is only an app with no customer service or protection. Do not believe this man.
I heard in the interview 70,000 owners having listings on FF (2021.) And it is $99 per month. That's just shy of $700,000 a year. Also stated in the interview was "we don't really offer discounts because the margin is really really thin." I get there is overhead, but I can't imagine the site is anywhere near $700,000 a year to maintain. Just my observation.
As a “verified” housing provider for several years, it has been a little off putting that there are no protections for the landlord. My verified status (that I pay for) is a bonus for the occupant but does nothing for me. There are too many travelers who try to make money with their stipend and are unwilling to pay full fees for a furnished property. Often their credit scores are not good and so the travelers are not premium tenants.
Great comment, thank you for sharing. One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of travel nurses pay for housing twice. Their place back home, and then the place they are renting in their travel location. That stipend is to cover their housing, however, they want to use it. And if they choose to live cheaper, then they can pocket the difference. This is one of the upsides for travel nurses.
Believe me-they are paying income taxes on those stipends-they still have to buy food to place in the refrigerator you provide. Big Note-they are also paying for their long term permanent address-simultaneously!
I’m disappointed that you don’t offer the “legal contract “ in your program? It is a $29 extra cost to renter. It would benefit you as the owner & help the renter to ensure “no squater” to settle in. Just my thoughts.
Hi Tye, you as the landlord are responsible for screening the tenants. If you don’t have a way to screen potential renters, Furnished Finder has a partnership with Keycheck to let you screen your tenants.
I have a home I just bought and I am either going to rent it out or do this furnished home thing....this house is one mile from the local hospital. So it seems like a no brainer, I just have to take the leap....get it furnished and try it. I can rent it for $1,900/month (profit 500/month)or get around 80-90/day for furnished with utilities ($1,000/month profit). Listening to all I can to help me decide.
I plan to list but have a question regarding how the keys are handled each time a tenant leaves. For security, are you changing the locks each time, or just hoping for the best?
video, quick questions...do you include shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, toiletries for any of the stay or just a few days worth, or none? Also, do you have housekeeping come during their stay?
Since travel nurses are coming to town, I usually try to provide enough to get them thru the first couple of days. This give them time to get settled, and get to the grocery store.
Just out of curiosity, if your algorithm is promoting the successful properties, what are newcomers such as myself who is considering listing my property going to be visible?
Debora, this is a great question for the team at Furnished Finder. But here is my take, create value compared to the price. Then make a stellar listing (great pictures, great marketing copy). And then be sure to update your calendar inside of Furnished Finder regularly.
Here is a video I did of how I price my mid-term rental, and a tour of the property. This might help give you some ideas: ua-cam.com/video/cFzNvxYvJOY/v-deo.html
Honestly, as a travel RN, take good professional pictures and make sure your descriptions could answer any type of questions. Parking, laundry, pet policy, who are we sharing the space with, hows the neighborhood, noise level, etc. Also the price should be clear. I've had to message a bunch of people because of lack of information on the listing, it honestly is a hassle.
Hi Jon - Sorry you had a bad experience. I wouldn't call them a scam. It would be like calling the Facebook Marketplace a scam because someone had a back experience with a seller or buyer. Facebook Marketplace also doesn't vet every person that sells on their marketplace. That said, property owners and landlords can pay an extra fee to Furnished Finder to be a verified listing. This helps travelers know that the person marketing the unit for rent is actually the owner. This is something I did with my listing. It gives the traveler a little more reassurance, and helps make my listing stand out.
@@TheHouseHackingPodcast They are aware. I spoke to the owner a couple of years ago, who said it was being fixed. But, according to all of the group feedback, it is still a huge problem. Thanks.

I plan to list but have a question regarding how the keys are handled each time a tenant leaves. For security, are you changing the locks each time, or just hoping for the best?
As a best practice, you should change the locks between tenants no matter the rental type.
Get a digital lock with a code! You can a have permanent code for yourself and a different temporary code for each tenant! Much easier and safer!
Change your key-lock with the combination lock; there's no need for keys. After your renter leaves, you can change the combination. Works great!
