For those having issues with the program, try asking here on the developers page. Or maybe your issue is already there and is solved.

If your flying in the UK you really need to try the Google Maps Server. It absolutely blew me away when I saw it for the first time. Everything looks so much more realistic.
I've used this map enhancement recently, and it is very good, with a noticeable improvement in visuals and reality (not so much in your Biggin Hill example, vitrually zero resolution/detail improvement). What I found though was that it's way too bright and I found a -25% setting, with a +5% on Contrast and a +10% on Saturation worked best with my PC/Monitor (34" 4k OLED - calibrated) setup. But,,,,,,
The latest WU XVI Caribbean update says there's 3 new bush trips, but, although they show in the Caribbean update as being there, installed and up to date, they don't appear in the Bush Trip Menu page, and nor anywhere else! The MS FS2020/Asobo team say they're "Stumped" and have no idea as to why they don't show!! Very helpful - NOT!
Do you, or anyone reading this have any idea what may be the issue? My community folder is empty btw, and all of the 'new' Bush Trip aircraft are installed and up to date, and all versions of each aircraft are installed.
Does anyone else have the same problems?
For me the biggest issue with the in game default Bing maps is how out of date they are. In my area of Alabama the default bing maps are at least 6 years old if not older.
I like the map enhancement program but I usually use the Google maps server, It seems to me like the Bing maps have a lot more images with vastly different seasons stitched together, ie a bright green corn field that half way across the field is a tile that has the field brown and plowed.
The trees,look awesome
The trees are from an app called Bijan Season. An alternative to Rex Accuseason.
im not convinced in norwich
Come to Birmingham and try to be convinced here
I tried it but did not like how my las Vargas scenery looks. I kept getting the scenery popping
yh, distant lod doesnt load until ur really close, its very trippy, especially skyscrapers look weird af, but I still like the higher detail grass and tone that it gives around the airport combined with nvidia colour filter.
Also, there is sort of a fix for the weird lod issues, as long as ur using bing maps in the map enhancement app, u can enable in-game & mod rolling cache, but do reset the game rolling cache for not reason at all, that should sort of fix the lod problems. It doesnt completely fix it, but it does reduce the effect of it and make it less noticeable even at higher altitudes
this program cause so many problems.
completely broke photogrammetry for me.
And messed with some of my network settings in windows 11, it was an absolute pain to get fixed.
So strange. I haven't had any of the problems that people were reporting. Sorry to hear you had issues.
same happened to me i had to reinstall my host files for my network XD
Did you use Bing Maps instead of Google Maps ?
Yes. That was quite clear in the video and the title of the video ;)
@@CMDRRustyDog True. I didn't pay attention. 😵💫
New update 7.6.2, won’t start, lots of errors messages.
Yikes. I'll stick with 7.6.1 for now, in that case.
@@CMDRRustyDog glad I still have the 7.6.1. Wonder what the changelog were.
I hope they get rid of the green tint that's so prevalent in msfs2020, with the new SIM
I have a feeling they'll be using the latest Bing maps in 2024.
Really cool Video. I tryed latent bing Maps on my sim But i have Problems Ive Never Seen and read before.. My plane is moving Like Stutters. I don’t know why i cant use it normaly..
Maybe if you have Discord i can send you that big Problems. I don’t know anyone who had the Same Problems…
Dunno if this helps but give yourself 10Gb cache in the app and turn off Rolling Cache in the Sim and delete any remaining Cache you have there also. Other than that I can't think what it might be, as I believe the data all comes from the same server that MSFS uses.
@@Germansimaviation discord in the video description
Does this work for console?
No, it's a PC only 3rd party app.
This isn't not really that big a deal. I run this mod as well, and the biggest difference is the time of year the pics were taken and the equipment that was used to take them. In another year or two when they are taken in the spring or a wetter summer they will be back to looking more green. It's almost as if *gasp* weather and equipment has an effect on the outcome of the pictures. While there is a difference to be sure, it's nothing more than what I stated above.
I shall stop enjoying it so much then.
This won't be needed after MSFS 2024. Once 2024 is released, both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 will have the latest bing maps according to microsoft. They confirmed it in the last DEV Q&A stream. So both 2020 and 2024 will benefit.
Well yes, that is to be expected. But until then.....
And as MSFS2024 isn't out yet, this is useful.
Also not everyone will be buying MSFS2024 on day 1.
@@CMDRRustyDog Maybe, still msfs 2020 will get those new images too :D read carefull ma dude
lol bad example, you are using a handcrafted port, so you wont see much a difference on the airport land itself, you only see your installed content of the area
Yes if you have a 3rd party airport it won't change anything. But it does do surrounding area which I covered also. So yeah, lol right back at ya :)
@@CMDRRustyDogthat only matters to people who don’t leave the airport and set the autopilot and walk away until it’s time to land….. which, as best I can tell is about 90% of the UA-cam commenters.
asobo forced to use more monochrome map, because all sat. maps has many places with changing color schemes, clouds here and there. so default is not worst, just use some compromise. some of places just ideal with bing latest or other, but some time when see that patchwork quilt... it's looks so ugly... some places just need only default, all alternatives gives full of clouds textures. and st helena island don't show any map. no default no all of alternatives include are from payware version. only 3rd map scenery can help at that island. some places with default maps have many areas without map, and those areas looks like default p3d or xp12 same ugly. so before asobo will does something with all that, this addon really helpful, same as 3rd real weather addons for places there all year snow's layer...
With having all 3 in this app, does it affect fps or create any stutters?
I haven't noticed any stutters so far, no.
Yes it does
Update; After using it now many times under different scenarios with all my add-ons for about a week, I’m finding it’s working very smoothly. No more major stutters, freezes, or ctd’s. I noticed previously on the UI it showed many errors, now after completing all of my flights I see zero errors, so it all seems to be working beautifully now, and the enhanced scenery is quite remarkable. Too bad it’ll all be tossed out for FS 2024, lol!
the difference in colors are due to the fact what time of the year the photo was captured. the Old Bing map it seems it was captured during the rainy season, that is why everything is still more green, while the Google maps and the latest Bing map probably have been shot during the dryer season where most of the plantation had dried out, hence more brownish / Greyish
Yep. still looks better though.
@@CMDRRustyDog Well, you can't really know until you actually stand there and see which one matches reality closer. for example, if most of the calendar year that location is mostly green and there are only 3-4 months where it is dry, then I would say the green version (Old Bing) looks better as it matches closer the reality.
@@yoelstrikovsky Well that depends. If I prefer the look of the latest maps over the old one, I'll say it looks better even if it's not closed to reality. You know what I mean?
'Better' is subjective. How close something is to reality, is something else.
@@CMDRRustyDog new maps are more relevant (usually) for housing and constructions as those change over a short period of time. when it come to nature, like mountains, natural plantations, rocks, seas shore, etc. those don't change over a course of few years, it could take 20 years or even more to spot any difference.
New maps on the other hand could potentially provide higher resolution images that older ones did not, that would effect both natural scenery and populated areas.
So it is hard to say what looks better...it really boils down to what "looks better" means or what do you define as "looks better". High image resolution or closer to reality at that location? or could be just what is more pleasant to your eye even if it is not matching reality...
overall, I would way it is a subjective matter. for me the definition of looking better, what is closer to reality most days of the year for natural scenery and what is most up to date construction and housing at that location.
@@CMDRRustyDoghonestly its not even that, its the fact the new bing maps has much more grass detail and resolution, it is much nore noticeable in certain areas than others.
Btw was wondering if its only me that gets terrible unrendered map in the distance (only abt 1.5km away) while using the mod, but a properly rendered map without the mod?
Hi, nice video. I think you must have a Biggin Hill (EGKB) addon which is why the airfield looks green (little difference with it on/off) whilst the surrounding fields are green (off) and brown (on). You have a different control tower to me etc. on MSFS default scenery.
Nice option though.👍
Yes, it's an addon.
I can’t open the program. It gives me an error message box saying something about a host file patch error.
I followed all the suggestions in the message box, which was the same as the suggestions in section 8.5 of the FAQ, but to no avail.
Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.
I'm not sure with one's you've followed.
Are you running it in Admin mode? Try that.
Is your HOSTS file read only?
I've not seen this error so I don't really know.
You can visit their GitHub site and leave a support ticked though.
your question include the answer. just found what stuff can block the hosts file from changing.
You have the same experience as I have. There are differences but you don't notice these unless you do a side by side comparison. Not worth the extra mod for me and disabling rolling cache for it
The rolling cache is now taken care of by the add-on. It has it's own and works like the MSFS one.
Not sure how they can charge you for Google Maps, sounds like an illegal Chinese fraud.
I haven't tried the Google maps options. I just use it for Bing.
I loaded it in. Nicer colour palette, but getting more stutters, and had a major freeze for like 5 actual minutes (a first of that length). Seeing reports that this is not recommended,as it can break msfs, and breaks the 3rd party agreements or something. Will play around with it cause I don’t really care with 2024 coming lol!
Yep, that's fair enough. It's not for everyone. I don't think I'll be using it all the time, myself.
Interesting about the 3rd party agreement too. Hmm.
Did test flight out of Friday Harbor (no addons whatsoever). Still can’t believe they haven’t fixed the scenery terrain just north of Friday Harbour with ridiculous triangular peaks that pop up and as you get closer, they vanish (this has been an issue since SU8) lol! Incredible improvement in scenery color and quality, but getting bad stutters and horrible freezes. My main audio output to speakers keeps switching to my Pimax headset during flight. This freezes my entire system for about 3 minutes, then comes back with lost audio in speakers. That’s the bugs I get from this. Tested exact route with it turned off. No stutters or freezes. So that’s what’s happening with me and this add. I will unfortunately remove it and await these improvements on MSFS 2024.
For instance, the Mod is blocking the upload of runaway textures in Vienna scenery from Gaya Simulations. I Guess smth with the elevation is happening, my plane is kinda of sinking in half of the wheels into the rnw
I haven't used it long enough to notice anything like that. As far as I know, it only replaces textures and not topology or buildings etc.
I use this mod for years. It's great. Loww does indeed have a rwy texture problem if you use Google map. It works fine with latest Bing map. Some 3rd party airports have the same problem. It's probably because they natively used Bing map for their data elevations. Overall I find that latest Bing is the better map option. Sometimes Google looks better, sometimes it's apple or Bing. But if we talk consistency, go Bing.
I carnt get it to start, it keeps saying something about port number?
Not had this issue. You can try posting your issue here.
github.com/derekhe/msfs2020-map-enhancement/discussions
Something here from the author (just in case it relates to your issus).... " This application use 443 and 42098 port. If the FSUPIC use the same port then it won't start."
Thanks for the video Old Fella 👍
It's been out for 3 years old news the update for it that came out last week automatically installs you don't need to pay anything
You must be a hoot at parties :)
My reaction to this app isn't old news. Version 7.6.1 wasn't out 3 years ago.
I didn't say you HAD to pay anything.
Go find something real to cry about.
@@CMDRRustyDog I think the only one close to crying here is you buddy

@@dustninja9956 You're the one having a moan, mate, not me. I don't care if you think it's old news. I can still cover this even though it's not version alpha 0.0.1 :)
I don't see how I'm crying by simply replying to your pointless original post.

Thanks for making this video!
You're welcome
Could be a seasonal difference?
No, these maps are more updated than the one's in MSFS. That's the whole point of the app.
@@CMDRRustyDog What I meant was that maybe the old Bing images were done during a different season than the newer ones e.g. a spring image would look quite different to a late summer image of the same area.
Nice
I just did a small flight and the ground terrain looked really nice.
I am 90% sure you decided to take it from islandsimpilot
Allow me to provide you with the other 10%. :)
Now my audience knows about it too. Gotta spread the word.
@@CMDRRustyDog fair enough. Its just annoying as some people are copying him word from word
