What an incredible review on an incredible knife I can't wait to get my hands on one and have it go in the empty spot right next to my Socom Elite folder
I’ll be getting the CF version when it drops. It’s been a while since I’ve had a manual knife from MT and I’m excited to get this one. Hopefully Tony doesn’t do a slow roll out like normal but instead just drops them all at the same time. I hate waiting a year after a release to get a version that I want.
Only seen one so far. It was a Marfione Custom with a mirror polished blade- not what I’m after. Considering how many CF handles are shown in the early roll out vids I think that it’s BS that more haven’t shown up with CF handles. It’s been so long that I e lost interest in the knife and it doesn’t look quite as nice with the different screw layout in the handles in the newer runs. If one eventually shows up, we’ll see. If you’re looking for one, good luck.
Reate uses secondary hardening. Three high heat tempers. And they are in the 350 to 400 cardboard cut range per the tests done by outpost76. Reates protocol is as follows... 550c 850c 1050c 1140c -150c 500c 515c 500c They dont specify their soak times, I would assume they are in the 5 to 15 min austenitizing soak time maybe? And I assume they use a 5 bar quench to -150 with nitrogen per the bohler specifications. This will be 60-61 aim hardness and performance due to the carbide formation will be fairly large and can perform well in both toughness and edge retention. This will perform better than a low heat temper at 61 and depending on soak times 62 in the other protocol. You'll have to experiment with it and see if you like it in production. Else if you go with low heat temper you'll have to aim for 62rc and use water cooled and low rpm grinding and sharpening in order to not ruin the temper. If your looking for hard use, I'd recommend a different steel. Maybe try cpm154 or rwl34 and use a better protocol than what the spec sheets say.
EDCandLace: Out of the stitch and msi I had and sold the following day because of both having HRCs in the 58s and sharpening about 50 of them in the last 3 months... they are SOFT, it's soft enough that it is noticeably gummy on the stones. Plus the action on both of them is mushy as hell. I received both of mine in the same day, had them poked later that day and sold the next morning lol. If you buy a knife to use and expect serviceable edge retention then you will not be happy.
Yes I just saw the Stitch with the RAM-LOK. I’m wondering how that lock is going to stand up to sand and dirt. Can’t wait till you do a torture test review.
Love that knife! Would love to own one. Just hope they make a bunch. Just like Hinderer knives, (Project X) the ones I really desire are gone before they hit the vendors.
Great to see the blade doesn’t have the usual billboarding. Doesn’t distract from the good looking blade finishes. If injection molded plastic scales will be an option, then they are definitely planning on making TONS of these. I’m liking this knife the more I see it, but 2:38 the blade seems to come out of the handle much easier than I prefer. I’m interested to find out more about this M390MK. It seems odd it’s still called m390 with an MK footer, which would make me think it’s a tweaked heat treat or something. I like that they’re making this in the USA.
Its marketing for we want to sell more knives by marketing something unique but not improving something they under done to begin with and charge a whole lot for it still.
Wow serial number 1?! That’s so sick. I live my microtech socom and utx otf. Microtech is one of the few knife companies that do excellent edge geometry on most of their knives. I did have to shallow out the socom elite edge for better performance because it’s the tanto version that’s thicker behind the edge and now it’s perfect. My socom is well used and carried daily. As a quality professional of 10 years…Microtech does quality the right way. Wish I worked for them!
Finally, I got my hands on one, and it's nice. I wish the clip was better because it does feel weak compared to other models. The clip retention is that of the Exocet. I will be waiting on aftermarket clips. I also found that the centering of the knife has travel, which is fixed simply by lightly bending the blade. Yes, the pivot screw is tight. Also, on my MSI, there is also a nick the spine from the manufacturer. Even with that its a keeper.😂
Well i for one am glad it’s 3.9. I u see stand the laws but make both. A lot of companies have just stopped making larger knives. And if you have big hands most just seem like a toy. I do have a para 2. And the handle on it is big enough. But big knives rule!!
I have been searching for a great carry knife for awhile now...... I can't seem to find the "one".... have looked at Microtech, Viper-tec, Benchmade, etc.... but I do like the look and design of this one.... Thank you for sharing....
uh oh. Good looking knife, seems like a solid config Gotta say i am a fan of Wharncliffy / sheepsfooty blade shapes for realistic daily use. Been carrying my Spydiechef for many years, but this looks like it could be a real contender for replacement. Still waiting for that Xring Dual Sport / Adventure Bike + Precision Shooting Rally..........
M390, Elmax and 204P are steels that never made much sense for Microtech knives in the first place, especially for the fixed blades because of the low toughness of these steels. When you talk about this new steel, the M390MK you talk about edge retention, talk about corrosion resistance but doesn't mention toughness. Would the reason be because this new M390MK is very low on the toughness? CPM-Magnacut or CPM-3V with a DLC would be a much better choices for Microtech knives.
They really just use m390 because it sells. If they didn't use m390 they wouldn't sell. They also heat treat it poorly too. So its microstructure isnt what it could be. They would be far better off using rwl34. A premium high polish stainless steel that's well balanced. And with an above average heat treat could perform very well in all aspects. But they won't be smart and do that because m390 is what sells.
Would look way cooler with aluminum scales like a typical microtech. Now it looks like those $50 Chinese folders. Can't say the same thing for the customs, these things are sweet!
i think the pocket clip is fine if people want to put a deep carry pocket clip on there own they can but i rather have it how it is if there really is no hot spots
This looks like a winner but unfortunately 5months later and they still havent properly released this. You would think a new knife that has been getting so much hype they would want to give as many people as possible a chance to buy.
The review is good. But is it possible to cut sausage or tomatoes with this knife on a hike? Or does it split food because of the blade thickness of 5mm?
I clicked on the back in stock email the second I got it and it was already sold out 😂. Have to be really lucky to get one anytime soon. Update: finally got one! For 100 over retail but oh well
Prototype s/n 001....that's really cool!
I like the simple claw emblem on the blade. Keep the build boarding down.👍
good looking design! I've got my money earmarked for this knife!
I got one on the way right now will be my first microtech, hopefully they are heat treating properly
Trust me, it won’t be your last microtech.
He’s a good knife reviewer, he beats the snot out of autos
I just got mine. I mistakenly received the partially serrated one, but I ordered plain edge. I didn't complain because its still a great knife
What?!? Okay, this would be my 1st Microtech ever because I absolutely love it!!
I feel the same way on this 1 as well Rob, 1st one that speaks to me
What an incredible review on an incredible knife I can't wait to get my hands on one and have it go in the empty spot right next to my Socom Elite folder
Love the looks of the ram lok Stich. Hoping for a ram lok Socom in the future!
Love my MSI
I’m a simple man. I see a ray video , I click.
Hello, I just found your channel and appreciate your reviews and easy to understand style, in your presentations. Take care.
I would love to get my hands on one of those very nice can't wait for it to hit the shelves
Love the design-will definitely add one to the collection
Like amazing, really appreciate the reversible pocket clip. Definitely getting one!
Definitely one I’ll be keeping an eye on. I just hope they‘ll be easier to find at dealers than the manual socoms.
Love that multicam coat you're wearing , very nice ! 👍
Nice, hopefully more obtainable than the Glykon. Been looking for one of those since you and Rick posted videos.
I’ll be getting the CF version when it drops. It’s been a while since I’ve had a manual knife from MT and I’m excited to get this one. He’s doing the slow rollout lmao
Did you ever get that knife???

Ok, I want one. I have an Ultratech and an LUDT in my rotation and I love them. The Ultratech is thanks to your beatdown/ review.
That’s exactly the review that got me to buy an ultratech!
I ordered mine yesterday. Can’t wait to get it. I just got my Combat Troodon Gen 3 last week.
Good review. You are an asset to Microtech💪
Looks great. Hope to see them on your website soon. . Have a great time at shot. Thanks for the video. Be Safe.

Can't wait to see your torture test on this 1. I'm definitely getting at least 1 of these !
Would love to see more knife content! Great video!
I will take one in OD green when they are available. It reminds me of my Chris Reeves inkosi knife but larger..
Man, that thing looks straight out of my dreams! Can't wait to get one!
Yes I just saw the Stitch with the RAM-LOK. I’m wondering how that lock is going to stand up to sand and dirt. Can’t wait till you do a torture test review.
Sigil MK6 blade shape is one of the best blade shapes you can have. Love it!
Thanks for the review Ray. Good job!
Great fuckin outro man! Just great!
That is awesome. Can’t wait to get my hands on one.
Love that knife! Would love to own one. Just hope they make a bunch. Just like Hinderer knives, (Project X) the ones I really desire are gone before they hit the vendors.
Going check out the Titanium handle version! Loving all the ways to deploy the MSI.
It's definitely going to be a hit!! 👊🏼
3” to 3.5” blade would be nice to see it would be more pocket friendly
Great knife to have. Love that it’s lefty friendly. 👍
I have a OD green polymer apocalyptic partial serrated coming tomorrow. Can’t wait. Been hearing nothing but great things about it.
Great review Ray👊🏼 I will be waiting for partially serrated. I like the west coast legal.
Damn brother! You do have some big paws! I didn't think that was a over 9 inch knife! Your testing videos are by far the best to me.
Great to see the blade doesn’t have the usual billboarding. Doesn’t distract from the good looking blade finishes.

Yeah that’s my main concern as well. Have heard it has a weak detent
Looks like a really nice knife microtech always innovating
Definitely have to have one. Can’t wait till they are available.
The blade shape reminds me a little bit of the Leong Mha kitchen folder. I want one!
These are going to sell out super fast. I hope they are making a boatload for launch.
One of my favorite spots in the forest!
Awesome-thanks for sharing! Like it! Will be looking forward to availability!
Hollow grind with titanium or carbon fiber handles, and deep carry pockets clip, and you have a winner.
Oooh boy that thing is perty! Love that sheeps foot blade
Great looking knife, love those locking systems and M390, just needs a deep carry clip
Tony said they're working on one! 👊🏼
M390 at 58rc and poor edge retention performance. What's all that Money going to? Poor value heat treat? Expensive knives? It just doesn't add up.

I'm looking forward to the new ram lok stitch more the msi personally.
Your review on the Ultratech was great and made me buy one, now I have to get one of these next check lmao
Definitely look into it I’ve never been huge on the autos
I hope these go on the Service Personnel Program.

Looks like it's more like the Spyderco Ball Lock vs the Axis lock.
Today It is delivered ...very nice strong
Hey Ray. Great to see you. Cool knife.
Tony, hollow grind, hollow grind, hollow grind. Just saying 😌..lol
Good work guys.
Man that high polish looked awsome…hope I can get 1 someday…
I can’t wait to see Ray beat the crap out of this knife in a torture test, but it looks solid and I’m sure it’ll keep on ticking!
This knife is so awesome. I’m gonna have go to mills river until they have one.
I think a version in the 3-3.5" blade length range would sell well. A lot of places have 3.5" laws and a lot of people like smaller EDCs.
My thoughts exactly, would love this at 3-3.5"
Well i for one am glad it’s 3.9. I u see stand the laws but make both. A lot of companies have just stopped making larger knives. And if you have big hands most just seem like a toy. I do have a para 2. And the handle on it is big enough. But big knives rule!!
@@no1fibersplicer525 Yeah make both is all I'm saying, like the griptilian and mini grip. I carry larger knives too when I'm camping and stuff
That lock with a SOCOM blade would be incredible
I have been searching for a great carry knife for awhile now...... I can't seem to find the "one".... have looked at Microtech, Viper-tec, Benchmade, etc.... but I do like the look and design of this one.... Thank you for sharing....
needs a deep carry pocket clip imo

I hope they tighten up that detent
I like the review. Always interested in EDC 👍🏾
We need a milled pocket clip and deep carry options, too.
It seems great...except it seems like an Osborne 940. Already got one of those.
One day I will own one. Hard pill to swallow for something I will probably lose.
I know right!!
Yep I lost a Benchmade 158.00 + tax last week I've had about a year. I'm a little sick 🤢 about it. Maybe it'll show up in the car or something .
I’d don’t think you’d lose it, you tend to keep track of the things that cost several hundred
@@DeathByLego true, but accidents happen
That spring type is a lot more durable then omega spring which always break
Ray, I hope you do a torture test on the MSI when it’s released, I’m very curious to see how well it holds up. Knife looks awesome though!
Like the shape of that blade
I’ll take one in G10 for a beater knife, and fancier titanium for those dressier occasions
Would love to see earth tone micarta scales such as tan, olive, burnt orange, etc.
Lots of complaints about the pocket clip but I like it!
Can't wait to have one of these in my pocket
When I win the lottery I will totally buy one of these.

I really like the styling about my analysis and the size and the blade. Looks like a winner
i think the pocket clip is fine if people want to put a deep carry pocket clip on there own they can but i rather have it how it is if there really is no hot spots
That is a awesome knife, I like it so I’ll guess that it’s not allowed in The Netherlands
This looks like a winner but unfortunately 5months later and they still havent properly released this. You would think a new knife that has been getting so much hype they would want to give as many people as possible a chance to buy.
Hollow grind? Sign me up!
Damn. Do I need another knife? No. Will I be getting the MSI? YES
Glad they decided on deep carry:
What brand of pants you wearing? They look awesome and tactical.
I can't decide between this and the ramlock Stitch 😫
Yup I’m buying one but please do a torture test
Send one to outpost76 and JoeX
The review is good. But is it possible to cut sausage or tomatoes with this knife on a hike? Or does it split food because of the blade thickness of 5mm?
Love the blade shape. Please let us know when it is available to purchase.
Any ideas if this will be a sprint run, or will they consistently be available?
